You receive a conditional offer if your vetting has not been completed but is nearing the final stages of completion.
Your vetting continues throughout your time at Templemore. So it’s essentially an offer under the condition that if your vetting fails at any point throughout training you have to leave the program.

If your vetting has been completed before hand you receive a full offer and the vetting is done. You essentially don’t have to worry about being forced to leave training due to vetting having failed.

Seems to me that most offers that are given now are conditional offers.

hello, has anyone received a PCT invitation last week or this week?

They normally allow you to defer if you are in last year of a degree programme and then start after your degree is finished. I know a classmate of mine did this and didn't start until after he finished his studies.

As its only a conditional offer it doesn't count as a deferral anyway. Vetting could take another 6 months or even longer.

They had my Form B from June 2024 and I didn't get the vetting completed until late September 2025. Just a lottery.

A conditional offer is an offer subject to you meeting certain checks, in this case; full completion of vetting. A formal offer is one made when all recruitment checks (including vetting) have been complete.

InspectorMorse is spot on in his post; if you’re into your final year of your degree, Garda HRM will be flexible and will allow an applicant to finish the final year. I’m also of the understanding that an applicant can decline a conditional offer and wait for their full vetting to clear if he/she wishes to do so.

To be fair to the lads and ladies in the CVU, they’re vetting hundreds of applicants many of whom have large extended families which makes numbers go into the thousands so unfortunately these things take time. Painful, but that’s the process.

Anyone get an email telling them their vetting was in final stages and then later get an offer. Trying to gauge how long I can expect the final stage of vetting to take considering the rest has taken over a year😅

I had my interview on the 13 June last year and was contacted regarding my fitness test roughly 4 weeks later and I had my fitness test on 9th August.

There's another intake in June if that's any use to you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 Chase1

Next intake is in May, no? My understanding was every 3 months?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 687 ✭✭✭DuffleBag

May and then June apparently. Mate did the physical test recently and was told so down there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 191 ✭✭Paddy 42

What mate are you saying they told you down in Templemore that there will be 2 intakes back to back one in May and one in June?.

Strange though on the Garda website it says that intakes will be every 11 to 12 weeks.

I'm in May but a mate of mine did his physical down there recently and they said there was one in June that he was hoping to get in on. Whether he or they got mixed up on that I'm not sure.

You’re in the May intake? I’m surprised they’re starting it on a 4-day week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 309 ✭✭Undead

Yep, I'd imagine they'll ask us to go down on Monday for the introduction etc, but the start date is the 5th.

Got offered may intake without my vetting fully completed, I might need to reject the offer due to work but when I asked would I get into the next intake which should be August I was told that it’s subject to if my vetting becomes fully completed or if there is conditional opportunities open. Anyone know if I would have a fairly high chance of getting August intake if I didn’t take the may offer?

    Thanks

I was offered Feb without vetting completed and turned it down because of work and that I'd be available for May and they said fine and offered me May without vetting completed

Hi! When did they send you the conformation email for may intake?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 J1000

Got the email for the conditional offer yesterday. I asked could I defer to the next intake but they said I wouldn’t be guaranteed a spot

How long after station interview does it take for vetting to complete? Applied in January 2024 only had sergeant interview 6 weeks ago. Just wondering if anyone knows if it will be soon 😞

Not a short answer but its impossible to say.

Every ones circumstances are different, station interview though I'm led to believe is part 3 of vetting process, which is one of the final aspects.

There are other checks as well though that run along side the station interview (which is referred to as local background vetting checks) such as ,security and intelegence, social media and a few more.
