It's a strong squad - you'd just want a few on the right column to grab the jerseys off those on the left column

jack O'Neill , sean rynne and dathi lohan are probably starters or close starters come championship , if stritch continues his form he wont be far away either , right corner back and center back are wide open at the moment too , dylan mcmahon might not be far away for number 2 , but you would imagine rory hayes gets the nod ahead of him if leen was to be dropped

Cathal malone is the picture boy this week in the promo 🤣 , the most consistent and most unassuming hurler in the county over the last 6 or 7 years ridiculas he has never won an all star at this stage , especially given his club football teammate got one ahead of him

Thankfully his clubmate is not starting , which gives a chance to diarmuid stritch or sean rynne to take advantage, i cant see kilroy starting at 2 , and i expect to see a change at 12 , jack o'neill to 7 and niall o'farrell to 12 or oniell to midfield and rynne to 12

great to see peter duggans injury is not as bad as first taught , he will also move to the 40 , i would love to see leen and fitzgerald restore there form of a few years ago but they are miles off it with years now and its last chance saloon now , hopefully mark can take his chance in goal for the number 2 spot , another kilmihil man of sorts too 😀

    clare 0-26 1-20 Wexford

A comfortable win in the end against a below par wexford side , the visitors never really threatened much throughout the game bar a purple patch in the last 15 minutes where they outscored clare 1-5 to 0-5 and had a half chance of a goal late on but saved by mark sheedy

Before that clare were comfortable racing into a 0-15 to 0-9 lead at half time , such was the comfort diarmuid strich who was the best player on the field was called ashore with 0-3 to his name along with adam hogan , points from peter duggan on frees along with efforts form jack kirwan and sean rynne had clare 0-19 to 0-11 with 20 minutes to go,

Then came the wexford fight back which was fended off with a couple of late scores from ian galvin and ryan taylor , given the freedom simon roche enjoyed today brian lohan is no closer to sorting out the number 6 position , roche scored 1-06 from play and was unchallenged in his run for the goal

on the positives , diarmuid stritch and jack o'neill look like they could be starters come championship , while niall o'farrell ,jack kirwin and keith smyth look like options off the bench come championship , sean rynne mixed the good with the bad at times today but has plenty of talent if he puts it all together , ronan kilroy had a nervous start to the game but when he settled he done well , good to see conor leen is starting to show the form a few years ago again

    Clare scores

    Scorers Clare:

    Peter Duggan 0-8 7f

    Jack O’Neill 0-3

    Sean Rynne 0-3,

    Diarmuid Stritch 0-3,

    David Reidy 0-2

    Shane Meehan 0-2

    Ian Galvin 0-2

    Ronan Kilroy 0-1,

    Keith Smyth 0-1

    Ryan Taylor 0-1

For sure, Jack O'Neill has really made a strong case to start. He'd surely be ahead of David Fitz in the pecking order now.

Hard to know what the forward line will look like when Rogers, O'Donnell and Kelly come back in. Meehan is also probably a guaranteed starter at this point.

Likely to be Kelly, O'Donnell, Duggan, Rogers, O'Neill and Meehan? Although Reidy would be a bit unlucky in that case.

Ian Galvin is a great sub to have, how quickly he influences the game when he comes on.

o'neill has been excellent this year , i can see himself and rynne starting come championship , one probably at Fitzgerald's expense , stritch is probably going to be playing the ian galvin role of coming in off the bench givin how lively he is , he doesn't need much to get into a game

the full forward line is interesting though , we probably will still have a two man inside line , with kelly out the field , so it will probably just be rodgers and o'donnell again but meehan is a strong option now off the bench

Paul Madden has named an unchanged side for the visit of wexford to cusack park tomorrow , clare still have a real chance of promotion if they win their last two games and westmeath drop one more point , wexford have the biggest say in the second place spot with their last two fixtures against clare away and westmeath at home

wexford themselves have picked a strong team , the two hughes brothers niall and pauric have been flying it all season so far as has cathal kehoe and mark rossiter , at the back eoin porter is a top corner back and is going to have a serious battle with aaron griffin , gavin sheehan will also be a handful for mark mcinerney , if clare are to have any chance of promoation they need to be wining this one , but it could go either way , another close one in store .

    Clare 1-16 Tipperary 1-11

A strong showing from the under 20s in a blustry quilty this afternoon ,a quick fire 1-4 from sean fennell set the tone halfway through the first half , two 2 pointers and a goal against the wind rattled tipperary who were only settling into the game with the teams level 0-4 points apiece , it was followed by two frees from darie culligan to leave it 1-10 to 1-06 at half time

culligan and fennell traded frees in the second half to drive clare on as dermot Coughlin's men went into defensive mode , Evan Cahill returned from injury to line out in midfield , he along with colm breen and the impressive Donncha O’Dwyer who is just out of minor were the driving force , fennell had a good game also but his first half blitz was the wining andlosing of the game

Clare travel to lemybrien next week to face waterford who beat limerick today , then its an away trip to mountcollins to face limerick in round 3 , for a place in the final group with kerry and cork

    Clare 2-17 Wexford 1-23

A game of two halves in rough conditions , wexford won the toss and played with the wind in the first half , the visitors built up a massive halftime lead of 1-18 to 0-6 which ultimately proved to be too much to reel in in the end ending clare promotion chances

The turning point of the game came in the 26th minute when shane doyle found the back of the clare net , it was quickly followed up with a two pointer from eoin nolan , prior to that it was a respectable 0-10 to 0-5 to the visitors with the elements at their back , points from pauric hughes and eoin porter pulled wexford clear to a huge lead at half time

Second half goals from eoin cleary who pounced on a rare wexford mistake and a mark mcinerney penalty along with 2 pointers from conor meaney , mcinerney x2 and eoin cleary had clare back to 3 but that is as close as it was going to get ,

A disappointing first half performance but in truth questions need to be asked about selection of some players and the selection process of players playing out of position , there are serious defensive issues in the side that were not there last year which management need to adress ,

    Clare scorers

    Mark Mcinerney 1-7
    Eoin Cleary 1-4
    Aaron Griffin 0-3
    Conor Meaney 0-2
    Brian McNamara 0-1

Questions need to be asked of the whole underage coaching structure and development squad system in the county. No midfielders bar Brian McNamara produced since Brennan and O' Connor, is there any tall younglads being coached to catch the ball over their heads, wiped out in midfield game after game, because there are no options other than McNamara. Specialist man marking defenders not being produced either, all that's being produced is athletic robots that can handpass the ball sideways around the middle 8. It has the hallmarks of very limited coaching but the current management haven't been hectic either.

the players are there but not being picked or picked in the wrong position , the game plan seems to be one big figure 8 training session working the ball up to the shooters , it was pretty much the same yesterday in quilty , kicking the ball from the half backline to the forwards is a thing of the past it seems

i am a fan of madden but not so sure of one or two people he has surrounded himself with , only 2 subs made today in wild conditions and we struggling in midfield , that's not good enough in fairness especially with a young lad sitting on the bench that had played midfield last year

It's a pretty poor back room team Madden has assembled.

Michael Neylon should have got role when Collins stepped away. As previous with Kerry managers they were disaster when came to Clare. Mark Fitzgerald got relegated with Limerick and jumped ship when Kerry u20 role came vacant. Peter Keane didn't fancy it when Clare wouldn't be seeded for Munster and with a few lads been unavailable this year. Both failed to get promoted from D3.

clare got relegated under collins in 2023 , it was his last season , mark fitzgerld missed out on promotion on head to head with westmeath , a game that was decided by a dreadful referee decision to deny clare a late winner for square ball

Keane missed out last year on scoring difference after beating the two promoted teams , granted we are missing a few forwards this year , but we still have 3/5 top scorers from play and have hit over 20 points per game , the big issue has been both midfield and defence , playing too many players in the middle 3rd area out of position and not working

We didn't get close to promotion this year which is a huge regression , the kerry lads did their best to be fair to them, we had two players that started every game for peter keane last year sitting on the bench for the full 70 minutes last sunday

I don't think we have the players, I can't name a midfielder in the county that is being hard done by, by not being in the team to play with Brian Mac. Bohannon is the standout second midfielder but unfortunately is injury prone and as the saying goes the best ability is availability. It has been a huge issue since retirements of Brennan and O'Connor who were as good as anything in the country at the time. Darren O'Neill who couldn't get a look in when the too mentioned were playing became vital when they went and he has been a huge loss aswell. I can't understand why midfielders aren't being produced but serious questions need to be asked of what is going on in county development squads. Specialist defenders is another area that seems to be totally neglected, we have a fullback on the county team that plays corner back for his club and half backs that don't know if they are forwards or backs. People will say you need to be able to play in all positions in the modern game, but defending is an art and you need 7 or 8 players in a team that have an appetite for defending or else you will concede the huge amounts that Clare have been conceding. We are lucky that we have a few very good shooters, that are keeping us in games but other than that all we have is perfectly conditioned athletes that pass the ball sideways in the middle 3rd of the field that can't win a high ball, have no nose for defending and are not able to kick pass and this is all I see being produced.

you are right about nearly everything , i dont particularly mind the figure 8 football if it gets results , collins got away with it for years , as for players hard done by , sean mcallister while only back from injury was excellent last year , his clubmate is needed somewhere else on the field , at least give him 20 minutes , the same applies to fionn kelliher , and then there is evan cahill , why is he playing with the under 20s on the saturday and not on the senior panel or team even , he was also good anytime keane used him last year

I still think brendy rouine is abetter forward then a back he would be better suited as an option instead of cormac murray , they have him playing in a position he never played before ,

look it might all come together this time next year and i will be proven wrong , who knows but last sunday is a chance lost i feel

    Sligo 2-23 Clare 0-28

A one point defeat in Markievicz park against 14 man sligo , clares fourth loss out of seven games and worst finish in the league in 11 years

lots to improve on especially defensively, we are a long way from where we want to be at the moment , today paul madden rotated the squad and gave game time to a number of fringe players so the defeat can be forgiven but it has been a very poor campaign in truth

    clare scorers

    Mark McInerney 0-11 3F,

    Aaron Griffin 0-7 1F

    Eoin Cleary 0-5

    Fionn Kelleher 0-2

    Shane Griffin 0-1

    Michael Nash 0-1

    Clare 1-10 Waterford 0-12

A low scoring game last Wednesday night but mainly down to two very good defensive teams, fred heagerty took clare out of the fire with a 57th minute goal , he had already added 0-4 points to his tally before that, it was a quiet night for michael collins , marco cleary , ronan kilroy and sean Arthur who all have seriously promising careers , the same can be said for gavin o'shea who only managed one point from play for the visitors was well marshalled by joe casey of kilmaley

O'Shea was one of the heartbreakers in last years minor final and is a serious player for the future , but the best players on the field were the corner backs of either side , joe casey and eoin gunning for clare and the excellent Fiachra cooney and thomas Ahearn of waterford turned the game into a seriously tight affair , hugo quane and cathal O'Sullivan dominated the middle 3rd in the first half and kept clare to just 4 points and only one form play in the first 30

Daniel costelloe and both Mathew o halleran and jamie moylan all came more into the game , costeloe clares top scorer from play with just 2 points shows just how dogged the deise are,

A lot of people leaving the bridge were maybe not over happy with the performance , it was a very much a snatch and grab victory , but that waterford side is very good , 7 of last years minors started and most of them big men already , the future is bright for both counties

    Clare scorere

    Fred Heagerty 1-4

    Daniel Costelloe 0-2

    Darren Moroney 0-1

    Ronan Kilroy 0-1

    Jack Mescell 0-1

    Ryan Hayes 0-1

best of luck to the under 20 footballers in lemybrien tomorrow , always a hard place to go to , a win will almost cement a place in the final round , it would be a fitting tribute to jack body who died on a night out after the tipperary game in round 1

Well done to the u20 footballers.

Good effort but unlucky for the minor hurlers.

Team named for the senior hurling tomorrow.

No Tony Kelly, Adam Hogan or David McInerney in the squad - are they injured or what ?

Surprised to see Jack O'Neill drop to the bench, hopefully he'll see action at some stage.
