World’s largest passenger jet arrives in Shannon for repainting (Clare Herald)

This must be the first repainting of an Airbus A380 at IAC ?

Speculation at (Simple Flying) say that it might even get the Lufthansa's special 100th anniversary livery ?

An extra weekly flight added to CDG

When? I use the route quite a lot and would love it if it were more business-friendly…

That’s great news. Also, whilst the Tuesday flight stops in late October it also seems that the other two (Sun & Thurs) carry on right through the winter schedule (as far as it is published so far).

    Thats great news,

So Aer Lingus have added flights on Paris , Boston and are operating a weekly Verona ski tour for 6 weeks vs 2025.

With Ryanair extra a/c and Lufthansa Frankfurt route for 2026 is looking like the biggest annual uplift in my memory.

Next year AA to PHL is pretty much nailed on and with the Ryder Cup I can't imagine that will be all

They were hoping for this year but are waiting on the new A321xlr roll out.

The Ryder Cup lasts a week towards the end of the summer season in September. It won't attract any new scheduled services.

Runway 06/24 is being re-assigned to 05/23 in April:

Thats a fair point. The Irish open this year is part of that story too.

I presume there will be plenty of traffic for the 2 weeks around it with new carriers and routes. Maybe +20k pax vs scheduled flights over the rest of the summer.

    Shannon Airport Arivals.png

€15m Upgrade Programme Takes Off at Shannon Airport (Shannon Airport Group)

The Shannon Airport Group has commenced the first airport-focused element of its €40 million investment drive for 2026, with construction now underway on a €15 million upgrade of the Shannon Airport terminal building.

The project builds on the substantial sustainability work already underway across the Group. The 1970s section of Shannon Airport’s main terminal building (Arrivals) will be replaced with a modern, curved architectural façade, designed to dramatically improve energy performance. This critical upgrade will help to facilitate the terminal’s transition to electric heat pump technology and new HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems – enabling a move away from fossil fuel systems and significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Passengers will also notice the physical impact to the terminal, with a striking, fresh, new look for the exterior.

From the Airport Authority: "Sustainability is again to the fore with the removal of the old 1950s link corridor, a move that will save approximately 62 tonnes of CO₂ annually by eliminating the requirement to heat and cool the old structure"

The haven't had heat (with the exception of the old offfices) in the link corridor in decades and cooling!! The Army Ranger Wing used to use the link corridor for simulated Artic Training!

No Oratory or Prayer Room anymore.

Viewing area almost permanently closed upstairs (access via lifts permanently locked)

with the exception of the old offfices

While the offices were occupies they needed heating.

The Credit Union has only recently moved to Wing 5.

They were probably the last occupants in that area that needed to be moved out of the building itself,

Seems like a lot of work for 15m/40m with how much things cost now?

I'd like if they'd expand the post CBP bar/shop a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 275 ✭✭x567

We do need more post-CBP facilities and need to think towards the summer season. Credibly in a year or two’s time we could have DLx1 (JFK), UAx2 (EWR, ORD), EIx2+ (JFK, BOS 11/wk, or maybe x3 if ORD happens), AAx1 (PHL, hopefully) and maybe a reappearance of AC serving YYZ. This would put strain on the t/a gates and will need more facilities than there are currently. We can hope for this problem to become a reality.

Sadly it will revert to a nearly empty barn in the winter, particularly if EI continue to pause the JFK service.

Lufthansa A380 Rolled out at Shannon in Special Anniversary Scheme (Flying In Ireland)

    By Alan Dwyer

To mark Lufthansa’s 100th founding anniversary, the world’s largest passenger aircraft now also shines in a special blue design. This week, an Airbus A380 was rolled out from the IAC painting hangar in Shannon in a spectacular blue colour scheme, with the aircraft departing for Munich on Wednesday afternoon.

35 staff worked on the Airbus A380 for exactly 34 days. They brought the 47-meter-long stylised crane on the aircraft to life and painted a total area of over 4,000 square meters. That is equivalent to about 16 tennis courts. The Airbus with the registration D-AIMH will start regular service in March.

A La Compagnie 321LR passed overhead us on their way into SNN earlier today, en route MXP-EWR. Presumably a medical diversion as they didn’t hang around long…?

A really interesting video about the airport and freezone. I learned some things I didn't know before!

Enjoyed that! Very informative and interesting…

    Thanks for posting

No mention of the alternative proposed location for the airport. It's now a hotel owned by the president of the USA!

Why is the viewing area closed? I remember going up there around 2003 as a kid. Also the area after security, the gates. How old is this section? Even the seats seem old. I like it in a funny way.
