trump is like the annoying bar fly in the pub who’s gotten into a fight with the rough crowd from over the hill. No one will go to help him and everyone is secretly hoping he gets seven shades of sh1t beaten out of him.

they used to have a dictator, an ally of Hitler, an Admiral Horthy. They may have some motor launches or suchlike on Lake Balaton although it might be difficult transporting them to the Persian Gulf.

Captain F**kwit is now "very unhappy" with NATO apparently. Maybe someone should explain to him that NATO is in fact a defensive alliance. It's not there to help him attack other sovereign countries.

I’ve been posting the odd sarky comment on Fox News pages. Seems I’m not the only one.

Algorithm is fecked though. If I start posting MAGA tropes you’ll know why.

Sure he only said a while back the America doesn’t need NATO.

They stoped attending NATO meetings and information sharing.

What an absolute moron this dimwit is.

A lot of it comes from the obvious fact that at no stage in his life has Trump had someone go to him and say "No, Donald. You cannot do that. That's a bad idea". And now, he's surrounded by other dimwits and sycophants whose only role is to lick his a**e 24/7. At least in his first administration, there was a few people that kept him in check to a fair degree. That's gone now.

There are thousands of universities and colleges in the US. There are 38 in the top 100 worldwide. In Ireland, there are 8 universities, of which 1 is in the top 100.

    @Igotadose

UCD isn't far off at #118, I'm not sure if you're arguing for or against the rest of your post with this bit. 38/3000 isn't exactly competing with 1/8

If @Igotadose had read my post they would have seen I said the difference was EU and Ireland 3rd level being free as opposed to paying for expensive US university degrees which a lot of average American's can't afford .

Of course this encourages more to attend 3rd level on Ireland and the EU . Many more of whom study STEM .

That is precisely why it is discussed as being a positive direction for the US to go, as opposed to the policy now , driving more of their scholars and research students overseas along with linking funding to coercing Universities to police students' politics .

It is in the news because the fall in higher education in the US below other much smaller countries is starting to cause concern that US in future may not have the expertise to adequately perform on the world stage as regards research and development or tech .

Indeed many companies in Silicone Valley and elsewhere in the States are actively searching for Irish graduates .

TCD is below some of those top 100 universities because Ireland is not the biggest country in the world ,surprise surprise , and doesn't have funding for research and as a result the grading of university status is based on this , unlike a lot of US universities and others like Cambridge and Oxford . All of the universities in the top levels are swimming in money and wealth which we can't compete with but hey we are doing well at punching above our weight despite this .

2nd highest educated as opposed to 8th for US ! 😋

Was it Rubio who said NATO should be used to further American interests? I remember reading someone in the administration was of that opinion.

No; tell him "Sorry but all of Europe's navies are busy protecting Greenland from the impending Russian and Chinese invasion fleets at the moment as you requested".

The rankings are meaningless for most since they generally refer to research output. Most students do not progress beyond level 8/9 which is basically all taught content.

That’s the problem. Whatever the number it’s still a massive one. The rot runs deep in America.

Perhaps if US colleges did not spend money on sports, their academic scores/standings might improve.

College football coaching salaries have reached staggering levels in 2025, with nine coaches now firmly in the $10 million club, according to USA Today's updated database. Programs are willing to pay top dollar to secure elite leadership, hoping to translate big contracts into sustained success on the field. But as the landscape shows, a massive paycheck doesn't always guarantee results.

    https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-head-coach-salary-rankings-2025/

They do bring in massive income but, education or business?

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/american-football/66713731

Bryce Young, the University of Alabama quarterback chosen first in the NFL draft earlier this year, reportedly earned more than $3.5m (£2.8m) in NIL deals over the course of his collegiate career, with a sponsorship portfolio that included BMW, Beats by Dre and Dr Pepper.

Supporters have pooled resources to form 'collectives' with names like Rising Spear (Florida State), Golden Touch (Notre Dame) and the Big Red Collaborative (Nebraska). A University of Texas group, Texas One, provides $50,000 a season to every offensive lineman on the Longhorn team - in exchange for a handful of charity appearances.

Byrne also bristles at the idea that college athletes are "unpaid labour", noting that the university spends about $160,000 a year in room, board and tuition for scholarship recipients. He also notes that with off-campus housing allowances and government grants, Alabama athletes receive about $42,000 in tax-free cash to spend as they like.

Perhaps someone might research what various professors at these colleges/universities earn?

If you are saying I said that Irish degrees were better than American then you really need to go back to the start .

This is where reading comprehension comes in ./s Edit .

Don't be saying people said something when they didn't .

Mr Trump finds himself in the "Find out" phase of the story.

All those tariffs, insults, yeah, they fermented very well.

    Jesus F Christ.

I don't think that I have ever seen a more crass attempt at a human being outside of a black comedy parody.

There is genuinely something deeply, deeply, wrong with him mentally.

Somebody's getting thrown under the bus.
Imagine being surprised that striking Iran would see Iran retaliate against one's own bases and facilities.
Despite Iran spending years building a force of missiles and drones for precisely that purpose.

The lack of consequential planning and indeed thinking at the Executive & cabinet level is staggering.
This is basically akin to going live to the nation and confidently announcing that you may be brain damaged as if it's a good thing.

Looking at the talk that the FCC chairman, Brendan Carr, reacted positively to Trump's anger at some TV channels mentioning him in negative terms by suggesting that the channels might have their licences cancelled. Trump's rant was to the effect the TV channels were treasonous by giving him a bad press.

Tonight CNN had two guests on for interview about Trump's behaviour and one spoke about Trump claiming he had spoken with another US president and that this other president allegedly told Trump that he was sorry he had not done to Iran what Trump did. The guest said his understanding of the alleged chat between the presidents was that the conversation might have happened when Trump was looking at himself in a mirror and not a completely different president with a different surname.

If true, JD Vance is doing himself no harm by keeping his Vice Presidency out of the limelight should qualified people think Trump having chats with himself in a mirror is NOT a fit practice for the current president to be engaging in.

I'd like to see what Trump's response to the CNN item is going to be, let alone what Carr might be tempted to do to CNN to keep on the good side of Trump. If Carr does take action against TV channels and their owners, it looks like more court cases against Trump and Co.

Coincidentally, CNN has two journalists on the ground in Iran reporting back to the world on CNN what they are seeing in Iran. The reporters made it clear yesterday that they were there by permission of the Iranian Govt and under limitations set by that Govt.

How can the US political class allow themselves to sink so low that this is acceptable?

He is stark raving insane, the **** sick bastard.

Discussing the mining of the Strait on BBC 10 o'clock News tonight .

    So many conflicting messages.

I would have thought they would continue to hit certain ships only .

    So today we've had Trump:

-announcing he's unhappy with NATO for not backing him in a war he started
-announcing someone's terminal illness to the world without their permission
-display his complete and utter ignorance of what might happen if he attacked Iran
-talk incoherently about "taking" Cuba for no apparent reason.

And that's just in a single day. This walking sh!tstain needs to be removed from office ASAP. It cannot continue. Bring on the midterms (and let's pray that they actually happen).
