Excellent cop thriller with Ruffallo at his best, go see it, got some nice twists.

can’t watch him after his recent Trump outburst he’s a deranged gimp

Really enjoyed and all the cast including LA itself were on the ball and great nods to the films that’s trying to emulate Bullet, The Thomas Crown affair and Heat.

Can't blame anyone for being critical of Trump.

Some people have TDS (Trump Devotion Syndrome).

Eh ? He was critical of Trump. Called him the worst human being.

How is that being deranged ?

I didn't know anything about Mark Ruffalos political views before that. But the man has now jumped massively in my respect levels.

Yeah this will be my next cinema watch, hopefully over the next couple of days.

I don't care about his politics but Ruffalo was in the best show of last year imo (Task on HBO). Can we just assess movies by their quality and no culture war nonsense?

Re: Crime 101, I didn't have high hopes because I was spectical of Hemsworth as the lead and the cringe title but sounds like exactly what we say isn't made for cinemas anymore.

You really need to see the movie before you judge it, but thanks for the comments.

The movie is good by the way.

    Crime 101 – 6/10

The exact type of thriller that everybody bemoans the lack of these days. It has a strong cast, a decent plot, some good set pieces and the 2-hour 20-minute runtime races by. Problem is that there’s absolutely nothing on display that we haven’t seen before. No one member of the cast stands out. Some are underutilized (Nick Nolte) whereas others (Monica Barbaro) only exist to flesh out the leads. At no point does it ever feel real or dangerous.

A decent watch while it’s on but leaves no lasting impression at all. Empty calories. File this one next to The Town.

Looks good but when I saw Barry Keoghan was in it it put me off.

Just watched it. Great movie. It is a bit like Heat. And is almost as good. Just not quite. Keoghan is very good in it.

    Ah ffs. Didn't know that.

I seen his mug on a poster for the new Peaky Blinders film too. How does he get these parts?

He's tailor made for the one in this movie anyway… another flavour of creepy little weirdo. I'm not sure how much range he has, but he's gotten very good at that 😅

Wouldn't let him put ya off this one anyway, he's more of a plot mechanic than a character here really.

Ya. If not a B Keoghan fan, I wouldn't let it put anyone off watching it He is not in it that much anyway.

The movie itself is striaghtforward in terms of plot - but it is shot in a very slick manner.

It's nowhere near how good Heat is. I kept comparing parts of the storyline to Heat alright but it's just a poor man's version.

Some bits are ludicrous. Guy pulls off big armed robberies that surely make headlines across the city, then argues with his contact Nick Nolte (think Nate in Heat) at the counter of a bloody food market, and does this every time he pulls off a robbery??

Ending too was ridiculous. Too unrealistic to wrap it up like that.

That's an opinion buddy. I really enjoyed Crime 101. My enjoyment levels were almost as elevated as when I watched Heat. But not quite at that level. If that was not the case for you, then that's your opinion. But nothing in what we say is fact.

Don't get so obviously put out by another opinion that disagrees with you.

I don't think it's anywhere near as good as Heat either - but you're really overestimating the impact those robberies would have on news etc. I've primarily lived in LA for 15 years, and some lad robbing some other lads with no fatalities wouldn't move the needle. Particularly as in the movie these weren't connected events, they were all seen as individual robberies, with no casualties, and (as far as the film tells us) just appearing primarily as car jackings. The one more complicated job in a shop is the one he balked at.

And given the established premise that he doesn't leave any evidence, can't say I had any issue with him going off having his chats where-ever. There was zero suspicion on him, and no institutional belief that any of these robberies had anything to do with the others.

I'd some other issues with the film (like the convenience of the ending, as you said), but none of that other stuff bothered me, or broke story imo.

Yes, its not a patch on Heat, which it rips off in multiple scenes.

The story was hugely implausible, full of plot holes.

I didnt think Hemsworth was right for the lead and the tone of the film just felt off. There was a lack of tension and suspense.

I could see the end coming too.

It wasnt bad, it passed the time.

That was surprisingly great. It's available on Prime now.

EDIT: Of course it's not as good as Heat - that's one of the best movies of all time. Very watchable nonetheless.
