    Not as reliant on Clifford anymore. Paudie Clifford, O'Shea and Dylan Geaney can step up on the scoreboard. Paul Geaney, Brosnan and Spillane options off the bench. Tomas Kennedy breaking through this year.

    Hard to know with Kerry.. if we get Donegal on a wet day in a quarter or semi final.. donegal could turn them over... Kerry do not play well in the rain... last year again Meath and 2023 all-ire final again the Dubs are recent examples..

    Jack o'connor has never done back to back… he will be desperate to manage a team to do back to back..

    Im very disappointed with Tyrone especially as they have Malachy Rourke training them.. he did such a good job with fermanagh and Monaghan but he doesnt seem to be getting the same bounce from this Tyrone team..

    Fair play to Roscommon.. beat Mayo next weekend and could be in a league final..

    Leinster champ shaping up to be a good one this year.. Meath are good going forward.. Louth building up a head of steam and i wouldnt rule out Dublin.. ger brennan will have the best squad available to him and youd never know what they could do...

    Is it still the head to head which decides things if teams finish level on points in the table ? I’ve had 2 different answers off lads today .

    Looking at my own county Louth , if we beat Kildare next week and either Meath or cork lose ( Meath will beat Offaly ) , but if a 3 way tie at top , Meath and cork have Louth on the head to head as both beat us .
    On the Sunday game it also hinted at Louth could win promotion. Unlikely we will , just trying to work out the permutations

    Thanks

    When Teams finish with equal points for Qualification for the Concluding Stages, or for Promotion or Relegation, the tie shall be decided by the following means and in the order specified:

    (i) Where two Teams only are involved - the outcome of the meeting of the two Teams in the previous game in the Competition;

    (ii) Scoring Difference (subtracting the total Scores Against from total Scores For);

    (iii) Highest Total Score For;

    (iv) Highest Total Goals For;

    (v) A Play-Off.

    The scoring differences. Derry +42, Meath +23, Louth +18, Cork +2.

    These are all good players, especially O'Shea, but they are not of a different class than the Donegal etc players that they would be playing against

    Indivualy maybe, but I think overall I can't see them matched

    As Enda Smith said after the game most teams in the league has off days. Very impressive how they closed the game out on Donegal who had the strong wind advantage.

    Mayo v Roscommon a game of shadow boxing next Sunday? Either way Donegal v Kerry the mostly likely final, Armagh may well stay up on 4 points as I would expect Galway to beat Dublin in Pearse Stadium.

    18 of the last 25 all Irelands have been won by Kerry or Dublin.

    If it's not one, it's the other. Every year you hear people will say plenty competition but in all honesty football championship is like Scottish football but you have 3 teams instead of 2 here. It's Dublin, Kerry and odd team that comes along and wins a few before years without winning it again.

    i think its the same in hurling with kilkenny , tipperary and cork , fine cork are a few years now but they are still always there abouts and its only a matter of time , tipperary have won 4 all irelands in the last 15 years and you would hardly notice it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,764 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

    Yep although ironically both codes have had 6 different all Ireland winners since 2000 but it's generally same teams alright although Limerick have come along in the hurling to dominate and become the 4th team to reach double figures in all Irelands. That's still double what football has.

    Football has more teams that are bit more competitive around middle but when comes to cream of the crop it's the usual few most of them time.

    Football has 19 different winners with 18 having won it mire than once. Kerry and Dublin has 70 between them

    Hurling has 13 different winners with 10 having won it more than once. However Kilkenny Cork and Tipperary have 94 between them.

    Last new Team to win a hurling AI was Offally, since then 4 football team have won there first football AI

    its been almost identical in the last 25 to 35 years , but if you put kerry in the ulster championship they would dominate that just as much , people might disagree but they are on par to win their 40th all ireland , that is something else

    i remember hearing ger loughnane say on the sunday game years ago ,all irelands are for kerry and dublin in football and cork tipperary and kilkenny in hurling , its up to the rest of the teams to strike when they have a really good team to win as much as they can, its hard to argue with that

    It's more competitive then Scottish football but yes Dublin and Kerry by default should always be favourites.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,253 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

    No chance. They don't peak for the provincials so they'd be caught out a lot more early in the summer by the likes of Donegal, Armagh, Tyrone over the years in Ulster as opposed to the lack of competition in Munster. We need cork back ASAP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,897 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

    the problem is they dont have to , look at their league record against ulster teams alone , they are miles ahead of them

    I do not know why people are building up Kerry, if they did not get a flukey result against Roscommon and the the draw with Galway they would just about out of relegation territory now. Donegal will win the league final handy.

    Mayo were just awfully got badly exposed at the back, Clifford and co had a field day. I think we will struggle to come out of Munster to be honest.

    Sickening arrogance from Kerry as usual, talking about coming out of Munster when they haven't even gotten over Clare yet 😏

    Yeah, Roscommon looked done for when Donegal closed it to a goal within ~12 mins of the restart. They showed good character to rally from there.

    It's still more than a month to their probable championship meeting in April so I'd say they'll both go reasonably strong for this last match while still giving some gametime to fringe players

    Cork brought Kerry to extra time in munster last year, Cork going better this year, they will meet in Munster final and it's not a forgone conclusion. Galway have serious depth and could take anyone out. Meaths style of play will cause headaches for the top sides, they have huge men, some great forwards and aren't afraid to go direct. I don't know about Donegal, maybe they can get over the line, but everything needs to go perfectly for the them, their game needs huge amounts of energy and commitment, it takes a massive toll on players can it be sustained for full campaign is the question, other teams are just more efficient as in better foot passers of the ball, ie Kerry.

    But all he said was Kerry would not come out of Munster, if you reach the final you conenout of Munster as a finalist. @kerryjack is expecting Kerry to struggle against Clare

    I did not really. I think it will be Kerry that defeat Kerry this year. So far in the league Kerry has about half or not much with it of full strenght team. Last Saturday evening they had only 8 players that started the AI final in the starting squad. And even at that I believe about two would not make the starting 15 if everybody was available. They had 1-2 more on the bench.

    I do not think such a team can win a league final. 2-3 years ago we were exceptionally weak on the middle third. We have found 6-8 players that gives us about 14 -16 effective players for this area.

    Yes we have 2 critical players who we would really struggle without but I was amazed with our resilience last year without Diarmuid O Connor and Barry Dan.

    Clifford and Shane Ryan are critical and after that Jason Foley, but we have a bit of strength in depth elsewhere

    IIts Interesting to hear JMG interpretation of the loss against Roscommon. As usual he blMes his players in an oblique way. He states that evey score Roscommon got in the second half was from Donegal kickout they failed to get away or a turnover.

    https://www.rte.ie/sport/football/2026/0316/1563659-mcguinness-not-that-bothered-about-league-final/

    I think this is an over simplification by him. You are always going to lose kickouts and concede turnovers against other and especially against top teams.

    In Jims eyes its never the system.

    He is staring now he is not botheted about the league final. If he dosent make it thennits an extra week preparation for a game against Down a D3 team. Next he will want a months break between the league and championship

    I don't see how anyone could consider Donegal real challenges to Kerry.

    Look what happened last year.

    McGuiness has been dining out on 2012 for 14 years now.

    2012 was a massive achievement but he has not built on it, he was severely exposed in last years final.

    From here it's hard to see anyone other than Kerry, ignore the early league lethargy, they are moving up the gears now.

    Of course a injury or suspension could derail them but they have it all right now.

    Yerra, would you hald your whist. St Jack hasn’t set the alarm clock for the Kerry footballers yet. Your obsession with all things Jim is fooling no one.

    As a Corkman we haven't a hope in hell of beating Kerry.

    It be 8 points defeat at best in Killarney.

    While Kerry might not have as many all irelands if in Ulster don't forget between 1968 to 1991 Kerry never lost to Ulster team in championship.

    They would still have 30 all irelands in any other province if honest. They got few handy ones alright but at same time not like every team in Ulster have been strong year on year.
