If you enjoyed Detectorists you might be interested in Small Prophets, Mackenzie Crook's latest series, BBC2 Monday 9th February 10pm. It looks very interesting with a quirky story and characters, and I'm looking forward to watching it.

The best TV this year by far!

We're only 6 weeks into 2026 but it's going to be hard beaten!

    Beautifully written and acted!

Bit baffled by some of what happened but you just have to roll with it.

An unlikely duo but the timing and rapport between Pearce Quigley and Lauren Patel was wonderful.

This is such a lovely, thoughtful, touching programme. I really hope there's a second series. I've never watched The Office or Detectorists so didn't know anything about those involved. I'm so sad it's over already.

The office is a completely different style of programme.

But if you like small prophet's pace you'll love Detectorists. Its of my favourite shows.

Yes, I agree. And I want to buy a blue bucket from Michael…no matter how much he doesn't want me to.

And anyone who hasn't watched Detectorists should do so. Now!!!

    Detectorists is a gorgeous show.

It truly is. I've watched it at least 20 times 😂. It's so good. Something struck a chord with me and I keep going back to it.

Small Prophets is also wonderful. Really well written and acted. Pierce Quigley is just brilliant.

Would recommend The Change by Bridget Christie. There's 2 seasons on 4OD. Has a similar feel to it although Its not quite as good as The Detectorists and Small Prophets but well worth a watch all the same

I have just started the second episode and it's great so far. Not sure where the story goes to yet, but the characters are in place and the drama is set. The reason I was compelled to write here though is just a realisation that I prefer European/British TV to stories from the USA. The people in Small Prophets are real, they go to work, they have problems with neighbours and relatives, they are not all pretty to look at. The American shows, except for a few, are way too glossy and optimistic. Anyway, I have a good feeling about Small Prophets even though it might prove to be sad in the end.

I watched the whole thing again this week. Great stuff, just like Detectorists was.

Watch Marcus Wareing after Small Prophets and all you'll hear is Pierce Quigley's voice!
