ffs, Cody champion again. Gutted for Drew. Still some hope of maybe a triple threat there, but in reality Drew will probably just be thrown into a feud with Fatu instead.

Presumably this at least eventually leads to a self-righteous heel Cody. Hard to see Randy winning it now.

as someone not watching week to week, Cody vs Orton looks a far better main event, given their history. And it’s somewhat fresh too.

Got to feel for Drew a bit, but in all reality his time when he was most over was 6 years ago and Covid ended that.

Some poor booking on Smack down since last year's Mania hurts Drew.

I like Drew but something is not there with him right now, it is just a fraction off, but he is just not in the Mania main event zone right now. The way he won the title always suggested it was going to be a short reign.

Booking has hurt his aura/presence, in the last year he has had feuds with people that nobody really wanted to see, like Priest, match including Jelly Roll then generally losing to Cody before surprise title win.

He was not booked well overall, neither was Orton tbf but Orton just has that spot in the business where he can be dropped into the main even if any show regardless of recent booking.

The lack of real good options to face him (seen enough of him v Cody or in the past v Orton), in part due to the booking, means he wasn't going to carry the title into Mania. Hopefully with how some of the new or newer blood - like Trick, Mello, Oba - are doing in the last couple of months will open up new feud options for people like Drew.

Agreed that Cody/Orton is the better match. Though I don't really get how or why Cody is such a big deal. He's grand but there's nothing particularly special about him compared to everyone else. Danhausen is entertaining in this role at the moment but it has a short shelf life.

Cody does absolutely nothing for me and never has. Personally I'm tired of seeing the same old faces in the title picture. Give us a surprise young winner for a change.

I'm just utterly bored of Cody, so a Drew Orton match is much more interesting to me. 3 WM main events in a row is enough like, let's have a break. They've got Punk and Reigns in the other one anyway, so could've allowed this one to be a bit of a change. I'm also enjoying slightly unhinged Drew right now too, much more interesting, and it felt like a match that could go either way.

The only way this can rescue my interest is if Cody leans heel very quickly. Otherwise it's just 6 weeks of "i respect you", "Our Dads used to wrestle", "May the best man win", "You're my friend but i'll still leave it all in the ring" etc etc etc.

With 6 weeks still to go, there's plenty of time for Drew to get his rematch, right? Of course they'll probably forget that and move him on to Fatu, who I thought was feuding with Cody.

And did they seriously just throw Truth and Priest together just to beat all of the experienced tag teams?

Is it possible that Drew got his latest run because Highlander was delayed, then Fatu was out, so they decided Drew would benefit from a run overall before going to do a movie and then his run had to be short - because of that movie?

Fatu was probably the original plan for Cody and be the equivalent of Finn for Punk or how KO was for Cody last year.
