The situation with Israel's intervention on Lebanon seems to be going under noticed, but perhaps it's for a different thread.

From what I can make out, it seems that the civilian casualty toll amongst these fatalities in Lebanon is really high, perhaps approaching 40-50%

An interview with Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi on MSNOW. His calm demeanour is striking. When discussing leaks from a negotiating session with Witkoff and Kushner, he suggested a lack of knowledge may have led to a misunderstanding on their part!

I expected the outcome of having a total prick with the IQ of a spoiled vindictive 4 year old elected to president of the US for a second time to be no less depressing and destructive.

I hate it when I'm correct these days…

Unfortunately the Israelis are brainwashed to an extent that makes the Russians and Americans look highly informed. They're fed a dose of lies 24/7. Add that to a pretty inate sense of superiority and its a bad mix.

Theres no shortage of headbangers willing to pick up the mantle from Netanyasky. I hope hes dead but it'll matter little. The only chance you have to quieten Israel is if American support is removed. And whilst Trump has been their best buddy so far, his only interest is himself. He could drop them like dog shìt if its hurting him. He could end up abandoning them completely and leave them totally exposed.

@batman75 they never had the moral high ground with their support of hezbollah, hamas, houthis and others. Their air defenses were neutralized within days, their large navy also gone. They have lost the support of their neighbours. Their attacks on these neighbours are really not getting the expected impact with the highest majority of missiles and drones getting shot down. Look at the statistics for attacks on the UAE and actual hits.

So what do you think is going to come next? Will the Iranians rise up and take back their country as the US arent going to invade with 3000 marines.

In fairness, Iranian drones have been killing Ukrainians for years.

It would be unwise to say that Israel would be "nothing" without the US, their ability to wage all-out war would certainly be curtailed but the idea that they are only powerful because of the US is flawed.

Israel won several wars against massive Arab coalitions using weaponry sourced from all over the world before the US became their main supplier.

Most of their equipment in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s was European.

Would it be a lesser military if the US were to hypothetically stop selling to them, sure, but it certainly would not be nothing unless there was an international embargo against them purchasing weaponry, which would never happen.

And even then, you're talking about the US pulling the plug completely with an actual military embargo, not just the ending of military aid but continued sales, which is unlikely to ever happen.

It would be a lesser military, but still a very strong military.

On the other side, it would probably lead to a changes in foreign policy for obvious reasons as the Israeli state would be more vulnerable, but again you're getting into a state of "weaker" not "weak".

I kind of agree....the country itself has problems and is in decline if there are enough morons willing to vote a complete tool like Trump and his collection of sycophantic half wits into office.

which is to Israel's benefit - the rest of the world concentrates on Iran and Israel gets away with even more murder and destruction .
In exactly the same way Trump's antics suit Putin and the Ukrainians suffer night after night.

I'm very sure that Israel are taking advantage of the media attention on their planned aggression on Iran in order to pursue their other planned aggression on the territory of Southern Lebanon.

This demonic chicken-hawk has the ear of Trump so that invasion is looking more and more likely.

"Semper Fi" is the motto of the US Marines so he's likely doing some signaling here.

So much for the off ramps, if true…

And after two weeks of war, isn't this the decisive point whereby this conflict ends cleanly, or drags into a quagmire?

I'm getting the sense that while Gulf states are angry at Iran, they're going to see that their Western relationships are purely transactionary and the US and Israel only care about Israel. They are coming out with a surprising amount of vitriol against them for starting this war.

And let's be honest. Israel and America have nukes. These negotiations are being forced on Iran after they made a deal before that was torn up and then were bombed twice during forced negotiations since. I have no idea how leaders in the GCC think but surely the absurdity of the situation is obvious. If any of them had nukes, they wouldn't have been attacked. If Iran had nukes, they wouldn't have been attacked. The whole place is a circus with Israel being the ringmaster.

I think the biggest alarm bell for the GCC right now might be the fact that Israel is encouraged to attack Iran's oil infrastructure so that Iran then attacks theirs. Russia is likewise motivated to keep this war going. They're all being used and something is going to break.

The whole thing is so fúcked, we could have Chinese troops stationed on Kharg island by midweek and no one would even be shocked. It would just be another news update. It's unlikely given China's history but what has been opened up here is hard to put back in its box.

Why do they signpost what they plan to do to everyone ?

Very curious that Netanyahu hasn't been seen in public in 5/6 days. 'He' gave a press conference two days ago but by video link and not in person. If he is not dead, there is still something peculiar going on.

Perhaps the Americans have asked him to lie low? Every appearance he makes feeds anti-Israeli sentiment in the US.

With Russia and China tracking his movements he has to be careful that Iran don't get his coordinates.

Terrorist state killed 12 doctors/nurses in a single strike. Once again nothing will happen. Criticise them for it and they’ll play the victim and accuse you antisemitism.

WHO confirms 12 health workers killed in strike on Lebanon health centre

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) says a total of 14 health workers have been killed in attacks in southern Lebanon over the past 24 hours.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the agency had confirmed that 12 doctors, paramedics and nurses were killed in a strike on the Bourj Qalaouiyeh primary healthcare centre late on Friday.

Lebanon’s National News Agency said an Israeli drone hit a residential apartment building.

The WHO chief said the incidents were part of what the agency described as a continuing assault on Lebanon’s healthcare system, noting that the agency has verified 27 attacks on healthcare facilities since March 2.

He stressed that under international humanitarian law, medical personnel and healthcare facilities must be protected and should never be targeted.

I think many of us thought that from the very start. It's part of their Lebensraum.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Hang on a minute, did he not say this a few days ago. Maybe he was lying for a change.

Why would an arms embargo against Israel “never happen”. It has happened before after the war Israel started in 1967.
Imagine a future Israel, without US support which has just been found guilty of genocide and crimes against humanity. What countries are going to supply it with weapons?

This is what the whole “super Sparta” Netenyahu speech envisioned. An Israel which would have to become self sufficient against a hostile world.

Israel is undergoing a domestic crisis with a brain drain and an increasing orthodox community who are exempt from military service (a current point of contention) and are kept at the expense of the state.
The ultra orthodox Haredi are the fastest growing group in Israel, with large families and a young population. They are projected to make up a third of the Jewish Israeli population by 2050.

I doubt he is dead. He is more probably deep underground to protect him from Iran's missiles, unlike the Ayatollah who was murdered in his home with his extended family.

What happens when the interceptors are gone. You have to launch between 2 and 4 interceptors per missile. Iran are using clustermissiles that disperse into 80 bomblets before the interceptor even arrives, so millions lost and at least 76 bomblets pummeling Israel. Their success is up to about 50% now and growing.

If this was going as well as you claim, Netanyasky and the rest of the propaganda machine would be out in force. The yanks cant even get control of the straits yet they seem to remove 90% of Irans capacity every day. They must be up around 450% depleted by now.
