I contacted PAS today to ask them regarding my own county I’m in the 30s, they haven’t began interviews yet.

Would probably depend on what county you've chosen.

Does anyone know what number they’re currently at in Dublin for April to September?

I rang contacted them yesterday about Kilkenny, they haven't started interviewing. Hoping they get going, I'm in the top 20.

Been offered a contract for last year's campaign. Never can tell with these things.

I was going through clearance for that in November and heard no more! I was told by HR in the dept I worked in it was closed. Joke of a set up!

Honestly though! Can't believe myself there was an offer at this stage! Unfortunately can't accept it due to the location of the office, but sure there's always this year :)

That’s absolutely crazy! I’m going to email them. The CO competition is opening next week too, so fingers crossed. TCO is ok for getting experience but you’ll never get permanent, I’m next on the internal panel.

Has anyone else in Dublin had their interview this week? I had mine this week and was told it'll be about 2 weeks before I know. I think it went okay but one or two of the questions kinda stumped me like " how do you organize your emails?" Other than pinning important emails, my inbox just automatically sorts the emails. Very civil servicey question lol. It's a very drawn out process to get a temp position

That's interesting.I know they're changing how they're recruiting, but tco Interviews used to be basically, Are you alive, And not an obvious liar.

You used to be told within a week, how you did.

I've never heard that question before it was always a handful question based on the competencies.

It seems though that they're not changing the speed with which they're recruit.

Such a stupid question. But something like that would catch people off guard, I mean surely you said you prioritise emails by marking yellow or red based on urgency? Green when completed and setting reminders for other not so urgent emails and too always set aside time to check everyday. TCO interviews use to be 15 mins, hello can you speak and function. That’s it 🤣

Haha no that's not what I said, I don't even know what I said other than pinning important emails. My mind seems to turn to mush in interviews. I had rehearsed like 15 different possible questions and only like 3 of those were asked.

The question was also asked in a general sense not necessarily at work. And I don't colour code my personal emails lol that function isn't even available on my email app.

I wouldn’t be to worried tbh if you can use a computer and word you’ll go far in the CS, just certain things they want to hear. They really seem to have changed the whole process for TCO.. you’ll definitely pass it. But it such a drawn out process and they might only offer you a short contract.. with no permanent contract guaranteed.

Aww thank you for the encouraging words. Yeah haha I have to keep reminding relatives that getting into the CS isn't like how it was in the 70s/80s…

Email them, you never know! Absolutely, TCO is grand, but it's the permanent positions that are the goal. Recruitment is such an unpredictable, drawn out process. Good luck on the internal panel!

My first TCO interview was in 2019 and it was one man who basically checked my pulse. Offered a place and, with the exempt from interview within two years thing that they run, have kept in the TCO system since without interview.

Oh okay and was this in Dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 99 ✭✭Glitteringstar

I’m next on the panel for an internal comp! But no current permanent positions available. Only a TCO position open.. HR informed me that TCO 2025 was closed, I was going through clearance for it. Crazy 🤣

Interview for 11/3 in Kerry. Was 4th on the list. Anyone got any example questions they got so far in the TCO interview. Prepping the STAR ones just in general for the CO 2026 too but it seems theres random questions too.

I got asked, about a time when I improved a process/system, how I organize my emails, a time I learned to use a new digital system/ software? Not sure if that's exactly how it was phrased. A time I went above and beyond with a customer. How I manage a large volume of information and how zi handle sensitive information. Those are the ones I remember.

Mine is scheduled for 12/3. Good to see things moving.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 rebhanqui

Good luck, had mine earlier today. No idea how it went but they went through each compentency heading and asked how often i use computers and what types of tech, about work I was proud of, communication styles and when to use them, and when have you displayed resiliience and then when have you gone the extra mile for a team member.

The small questions were based of my answers in original application and then my own experience.

What order of merit are they interviewing for in Dublin? Have they reached over the 150 mark yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 253 ✭✭BalboBiggins

Hi guys my wife interviewed for this in Dublin and was told today that she is successful but they haven't confirmed how many places are available. Just wondering how this works now. Does she have to accept the first offer or will they offer her more than one if she rejects the first?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 philipper

From what I understand they only interview now if there is a place for you. So it's literally a matter of waiting until they give her an offer. There will be a few weeks between getting an offer. And actually starting your job, because they take a couple of weeks to get you set up on payroll.

I'm not sure that you can turn it down. As a tco, if it was permanent, you can, but I would be open to being corrected there, because I am genuinely not sure.

They were put her wherever there is a gap. Basically, it won't matter whether she has any training or interest in the area or department. Square pegs and rounds holes, is very much applicable to the civil service. Although I have heard that they are trying to change that approach. I would imagine that that is purely for permanent panels, though tcos are there just to fill the gap. It's good experience and it is enjoyable depending on your department. It can be very good for you mentally, because you you're not required to worry about work outside of work. Good luck to her, hopefully she gets a nice placement.

Just got an email that I have an interview next week but I'm currently a TCO. I thought I wouldn't have to interview again for the same position? Does anyone know has that changed? Someone i work with didn't have to do the interview again

got through the interview to the panel. I’m 4 on merit. Any idea how long until offers/request for references etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 ResoluteTuba

Congrats! There’s no way to know, TCO positions are filled as requirements arise, but at 4th I can’t imagine you’ll be long.

Whereabouts on the OOM were you? Lots of people wondering if they’ll be called any time soon!
