Does FR require a passport for its DUB KIR flights ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,330 ✭✭✭✭elperello

    Yes.

They require it as a form of id.

    A passport or passport card.

Obviously you don't need it for immigration.

(even though you are going to The Kingdom 😊)

Looking to bring 2x Bottle of Jameson after security at T2 onward dest is ORD then BNA, Would there be any issues regarding doing this ?

It's for people we know in the US

Your question isn't clear. Are you looking to bring them through security or buy them after security?

presumably you’d be purchasing duty free, they will or can be sealed in special duty free bags

You will land and connect in the states as domestic so won’t have issues there provided you are connecting airside which is likely

As long as the 2 litres are within USA duty free limits which I think they are, you’ll be fine

Yoy can also buy them after CBP too. So no need to bring anything trough security

Does anyone know when the new T1 lounge in Dublin opens?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,965 ✭✭✭donkey balls

Any time I've gone to the US i cleared CBP at the arrival airport, So this will be a first for myself clearing at Dublin. Do i need to be there earlier than a regular flight to clear CBP and is there a bar/restaurant you can have something to eat prior to boarding.

It’s recommended clearly to arrive 3 hours prior to your flight’s departure time if you are using CBP

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,104 ✭✭✭Captain_Crash

Yeah I’d arrive at the airport earlier than usual (3 hrs is recommended), CBP can be very busy at times. There is a small bar and a few kiosks once trough and a small “duty free” shop. Not a massive selection but you’d mentioned Jameson which you’ll get for sure at it.

Depends what time the flight it. Last few times I've gone I've walked straight through, no queues at all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,965 ✭✭✭donkey balls

From memory it's a 0930L departure will make sure we are there for 0630 so. Thanks for all the replies.

Personally I'd leave 2 hours max at the airport.

It's one of the first flights through US preclearance.

the “recommended” time is purely so you’ll spend more time and money in the airport IMO

I understand plenty don’t like to feel rushed at all, but I don’t like waiting around in airports so I’d nearly always try and take at least a third off their recommended time

Grand and all until the day there’s an “incident” or staffing issue as we have seen on several occasions over the last couple years. And then you’re snookered by security ques etc.

Ever been pulled for secondary screening?

Always better to be early than missed departure.
Can be sensible about it too.
Traveling alone you can be much faster, kids and family ? allow more time etc.

For a US departure that’s using pre clearance I’d be aiming at 2.5/3 hours before departure depending on circumstances

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,965 ✭✭✭donkey balls

Wthat's the secondary screening? from memory going through post 4 sometimes you get a random drug swap or pin check and that was about it.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,400 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

It’s a US procedure, they pull a certain percentage of passengers for additional checks.
Can be random or you can be unfortunate enough to share a name with someone who’s on a list somewhere….

Ah right i remember one of the lads from Scotland getting pulled at MCO by immigration officials. We were all on student pilot visa at the time.

Pre clearance in Dublin is empty, I’m there every 4-6 weeks for the last couple of years and it’s never taken more than 5 minutes.
If you’re not checking a bag, come 2 hours before your flight

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 21,891 Mod ✭✭✭✭helimachoptor

have only seen 1 person be pulled for secondary screening since I started going regularly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 575 ✭✭✭user060916

I always get the SSSS and secondary security.

I went from walking into the airport to the gate in less than 30 minutes including dropping off bags, secondary security and US immigration in the morning.

Granted I could skip the check in queues but even still, for an early flight I think 3 hours is madness.

Once your scanned at the top of the stairs at preclearance you're basically guaranteed to get the flight unless there is some issues with your immigration status.

Edited to add check in closes 75 minutes before departure. They wouldn't do that unless it was feasible the majority of the time.

Correct me if I'm wrong arrive at T2 enter the terminal and turn left for the US airline check in desks, We will have 2x bags to be checked in. After that head upstairs through security then head towards the 400 stands. While flying with EI I've noticed the CBP signs so head down the stairs. So when people go down the stairs to clear CBP how do they get to whatever airbridge the flight is departing from? Do the US bound flights still have the lads standing around the aircraft and check in desks.

I’ve been SSSS’d only four times in a flying career of several thousand flights, many of which were US-bound. Last time was a few weeks ago (late Jan) in DUB. Was taken to a screening area at the back of the old pre-CBP security zone and subjected, with great respect and humour from the staff who were great craic, to a very thorough check. Other times, in Toronto & Caribbean, were as thorough but very strait -laced by comparison. I’ve always wondered how the SSSS ‘status’ gets allocated and why…

Mine is my name somehow is linked to a lad on the OFAC list. Even the age, location and DOB are completely different.

Have a redress number from DHS which doesn't seem to do much

Help. I parked in long-term Blue car park in Dublin airport and forgot to note the zone. Is there any assistance available to help locate my car?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 21,891 Mod ✭✭✭✭helimachoptor

    nope..

If you get there when it’s dark and your car lights turn on when you unlock that’s about as good as you’ll get

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,965 ✭✭✭donkey balls

Was talking to a former work colleague who told me AA are being handled by EI rather than Swissport, When did that happen and is it just cargo/baggage aircraft handling or full service from check in staff as well.

I believe AA have their own operation. They handle themselves so to speak.
