Another poster had the number at 33,000.

The only post I've seen with corroborative evidence that appears credible (from 2 sources) was circa 7000. I think it was @Tony EH)

That said of course, one protester executed is one too many. But trying to big-up numbers of dead, be they protesters or schoolchildren, is just misinformation.

We saw it on Oct 7th - 40 beheaded babies (there were zero), pregnant woman cut open and fetus removed (a lie), 1200 Israelis killed by Hamas (scores were killed by Israel). And for over two years, the numbers of Gazans killed were debunked and minimised by Israel until just recently when the IDF pretty much confirmed them.

When the PLO were turfed out of Jordan after effectively attempting to establish a Palestinian state within a state there, they ended up in in Southern Lebanon where they promptly set up another mini state within a state called "Fatahland".

The PLO were effectively responsible for starting a civil war in Lebanon and were eventually loaded onto a boat and sailed off from Tripoli to Tunisia, if I remember correctly.

But before they were turfed out of Lebanon they were responsible for multiple attacks on Israel from across the border.

The Israelis got sick of their S**t, went across the border and sorted them out in the short-lived Israeli invasion of Southern Lebanon in 1982.

Hezbelloh were set up in the immediate aftermath of that invasion. It wasnt a land grab by Israel. It was dealing with a terrorist organisation, the PLO.

A lot of posters seem to like to pretend that the PLO were never active in southern Lebanon and that Hezbollah sprang up naturally as some kind of gallant Lebanese defenders against Israeli aggression. That is simple not true. They are Iran backed and always have been.

Hezbollah are despised in the region, both in Lebanon and Syria where they were sent across the border by Nasrallah to assist Bashie Al-Assad in the brutal suppression of his own people. They slaughtered thousands of Sunni Muslims in Syria.

Stop trying to pretend they are a bunch of plucky freedom fighters. They're not.

Lebanon has being trying to rid themselves of Hezbollah in recent months.

Option A - Israel extends assistance (intelligence, resources etc.) to Lebanon, UNIFIL protects the border.

Option B - Israel bombs the fúck out of Beirut and attacks UNIFIL peacekeepers.

Easy choice for a warmonger. And the same choice for decades.

I see the brutal Iranian regime just blew up a Catholic priest with a tank.

    Actually it was the Israelis.

Reuters confirmed that the elementary school in the Iranian city of Minab was bombed TWICE by the

US military, 40 minutes apart. This was intentional. You don't "accidentally" bomb a school TWO TIMES.

168 children and 14 teachers were killed. It was a massacre.

Watching Trump's press conference, he claims he won the war three days ago (!). Looks like he is going to pull the plug very quickly - which is probably good news for us all.

Kinda glossing over a few salient points in that 1982 conflict, like the massacres of civilians that were instigated by Israel. Claiming that Israel isn't interested in a land grab, while they're currently occupying a not insignificant portion of southern Lebanon, and their government openly admits that Greater Israel is their desired goal, falls rather flat.

A double tap bombing is wrong wrong wrong no matter who or what the target is. It's essentially waiting for first responders to get to the scene so that they can be killed. Israel did it in Gaza to kill healthcare workers and journalists.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Jesus, that's a classic dirty tactic,so you kill the rescue crews as well, surely a war crime

Salied from Tripoli to Tunisia! Tripoli is in Libya not in Lebanon! Oh dear!

p.s. You didn't mention the Sabra and Shatila massacre of Palestinian Nakba refugee women and children in their tents by Israel. Maybe you never heard of it - to give you the benefit of the doubt. Here are some facts.

    • In June 1982, Israel invaded Lebanon during the country’s 15-year civil war (1975-1990), with the stated aim of destroying the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which had been based in Beirut and was launching attacks on Israel from southern Lebanon.
    • The PLO withdrew from Lebanon by September 1, 1982. Assurances were provided by the United States and a multi-national force that the remaining Palestinian refugees and civilians would be protected.
    • Two weeks later, the Israeli military besieged Sabra and Shatila and provided cover for their allies, a right-wing Lebanese militia called the Phalange, to carry out the mass killings.
    • The killing continued for 43 hours, from 6pm on Thursday, 16 September, until 1pm on Saturday, 18 September.
    • While accurate figures on the number of people killed are difficult to ascertain, estimates have put the death toll at between 2,000-3,500 civilians.
    • Testimonies from the mass killing describe horrific acts of slaughter, mutilation, rape and mass graves. Images from the aftermath were aired on television worldwide and caused global outrage.

Hezbollah is the only thing preventing Lebanon becoming part of Israel and having placenames renamed and the people squeezed into a Gaza-type enclave for ethnic cleansing. Israeli archaeologists have accompanied the IDF gathering evidence from centuries past.

    The salient points are:

Unwanted terrorist organisation (PLO) in Southern Lebanon.

Israel routes unwanted terrorist organisation (PLO).

New unwanted Iranian-backed terrorist organisation emerges in Southern Lebanon (Hezbollah).

You wanted to know why Hezbollah exist in Southern Lebanon. It has nothing to do with defending Southern Lebanon. Romanticising a bunch of Islamic Jihadists whose main contribution to the region was to introduce suicide vests as a tactic of war is baffling.

It's amazing how many people who 'don't' support Hamas, Hezbollah or the beardy Mullahs of Tehran spend such an inordinate amount of time online defending and justifying them.

Glossing over Hezbollah killing thousands of Muslims in Syria is truly glossing over some salient points. What's their justification for that?

Israel are in southern Lebanon right now because it was part of the last ceasefire agreement, that if Hezbollah didn't decommission, or the Lebanese government couldn't disarm them, Israel could occupy certain military bases to ensure the security of the border.

Lebanon was on the verge of civil war before the PLO decamped there.
The PLO did indeed launch cross border attacks on Israel, as did the Israelis launch cross border attacks on Lebanon, including a particularly brutal and indiscriminate car bombing campaign, conceived by the sane Israelis who undertook the first car bomb attacks in the Middle East.

The 1982 invasion of Lebanon by Israel was based on a known lie.
The casus belli was the attempted assassination of the Israeli ambassador to the UK. Israel blamed the PLO for the attack using it as excuse to invade Lebanon although the invasion had been planned months before and the Israelis knew the PLO were not responsible for the assassination attempt.

So you don't support the Lebanese government then.

That's very interesting, I did not know that. I know there is a Paris in Texas. Meanwhile back to this thread, they left from Beirut. The PLO were not fighting Israel in northern Lebanon.

The evacuation of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) from Beirut was formalized in a U.S.-brokered agreement on August 21, 1982, mediated primarily by special envoy Philip Habib, involving Israel, the Lebanese government under President Elias Sarkis, and representatives from the PLO. The terms stipulated that approximately 14,000–15,000 PLO fighters and associated personnel would depart between August 21 and September 1, 1982, with evacuations conducted via sea from Beirut's port under supervision by a multinational force comprising French, Italian, and later U.S. troops.

It was an unwinnable war from the outset. All he has done in nine days is sunk the Iranian navy's ships, done some damage to their military infrastructure and assassinated their 86 year old head of state (who was apparently dying of cancer).

I understand what Greater Israel means and intends.

I support a sovereign Palestine in Palestine under the UN borders with international ports, their own government and military, and rid of Israeli control, starvation, genocide, and ethnic cleansing.

He has also pissed off an awful lot of people. In particular in Iran. If this breeds a generation of extremists, suicide bombers etc. then thats not good for the USA.

Sure, it's perfectly normal for any country to have an Islamic Jihadist terrorist group setting up shop in the arse end of the country and launching umpteen attacks on one of its neighbours. It always ends well.

Lebanon was on the verge of civil war before the PLO decamped there.

The poor old PLO. They just couldn't help themselves could they! They were fecked out of Jordan previously too, after it looked like they were going to try and take over there as well.

For a group of people who like to go on about colonization and imperialism, they sure don't half like trying to take over other peoples countries.

400k Palestinians were also turfed out of Kuwait after the PLO supported Saddam's invasion. "You go annex Kuwait there, Saddam. Fine by us if it helps us."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,181 ✭✭✭SafeSurfer

Is that the ceasefire agreement that Israel breached 15,000 times?

“According to the United Nations, however, Israel has violated the agreement more than 15,000 times, including at least 1,500 incursions into Lebanese territory, and killed over 340 people.”

And you don't give a damn how many Lebanese have to suffer and die for that free Palestine because of the actions of Hezbollah.

Would that free Palestine be run by Hamas by any chance, I wonder.

Why are the PLO and Hezbollah classified as terrorist organisations, but the IDF isn't? They arose to try and fight off invasion from a colonial power. I don't care for either group, they have committed horrible acts of violence and terror. You want to portray them as though they are Huns, descended down from the Steppe, bringing violence to a peaceful land, when in reality they were born from the oppressed native populations that Israel was looking to ethnically cleanse. Perhaps Israel wouldn't find itself contending with so many unwanted terrorist organisations if it wasn't so busy killing the natives of those lands.

The goal of the Zionists has been consistent, a religiously pure Greater Israel. They have been steadfastly working towards that since before Israel was declared. Instigated regional chaos and instability only suits to further those goals.

One finds displaced people often end up displacing others. It’s certainly not unique to Palestinians. It’s hardly a new phenomenon.
The origin of the “sea peoples” is among the earliest examples.

Saddam? The Saddam supplied with weapons, credit and the material for chemical weapons by western powers? Chemical weapons he used to gas the Kurds? The same western countries who continued to arm and support Saddam after gassing the Kurds and who blocked genocide investigations of Iraq because it would weaken their position in the war with Iran.
