Clumsy jingoism? You know this is a Trump thread, right? Brady Tkachuk plays for the Ottawa Senators, a Canadian team. He attended the WH and this is what the WH Tiktok account had him saying about Canada in an AI-generated video:

“They booed our national anthem, so I had to come out and teach those maple syrup-eating f—s a lesson.”

    It gets better from there:

That’s direct from the White House, not from a journalist or a hockey player. That’s what their government thinks of Canadians.

You can be certain he is panicking already. It's widely reported that this whole operation was expected to last days with the Iranian people rising up and rapidly overthrowing the Government after decapitation strikes. There is absolutely no sign of that happening.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz or any sort of meaningful retaliation by the Iranians clearly wasn't factored into the decision making process for the US administration when starting this operation. We know from reporting that the Joint Chiefs of Staff warned the administration that it's decision making process was flawed and was not taking account of the serious risks of such an operation spiralling out of control, as has now happened. No surprise considering this administration is an amateur joke of a setup that does not take into account professional advice.

The problem for Trump is that this is not something he can just TACO out of when Iranian missiles are flying. His presidency is over, he may limp on but he's holed beneath the waterline after this. Republicans are toast in the midterms.

The only thing Trump cares about is oil and money, so it wouldn't be a huge surprise if he finds some way to quickly end the conflict - the Iranians may have latched on to his weak spot.

I think he will look for an off ramp this week but the Iranians will not give him one without major concessions. Potentially a withdrawal of US forces from certain Gulf states. He might spin it as something that is no longer necessary but people will see it for what it is - a stunning strategic defeat.

The hardliners in the Iranian regime see the ceasefire last year as a major mistake that just allowed Israel and the US time to prepare for this war. They are firmly in charge of the Government now after Khamenei's death. They are not going to just agree to a ceasefire because Trump is rattled due to the price of oil.

Worth remembering how people were declaring this a success within 24 hours. The reality is, The chaos from this will play out for months if not years to come.

An attack on Iran’s oil infrastructure almost certainly means reprisals against the Arabs. Israel is an awkward friend.

Only WUMs and clowns were declaring this a success within 24 hours. Any straight thinking person could see this was going to be a major clusterfuck before it even started.

Hard to see how he gets out of this. The new geezer has just had his father, mother, wife and daughter killed in the past week. I can't see him compromising any time soon. The **** hit the fan and the republicans are about to turn on each other.

Well said cardinal. High profile people like him are few and far between in the US these days.

US cardinal slams ‘sickening’ White House war montage video

An American cardinal close to Pope Leo XIV has described a White House video montage mixing Hollywood film clips with real footage of strikes on Iran as “horrifying” and “sickening”.

“A real war with real death and real suffering being treated like it’s a video game – it’s sickening,” Cardinal Blase Cupich said in a statement on the diocese website.

In the 42-second video posted on X on Friday with the caption “Justice the American way”, Hollywood heroics are interspersed with footage released by the US military showing real strikes on various targets.

It was a “horrifying portrayal” as “more than 1,000 Iranian men, women and children” have been killed by US and Israeli missiles, he wrote.

“Our government is treating the suffering of the Iranian people as a backdrop for our own entertainment, as if it’s just another piece of content to be swiped through while we’re waiting in line at the grocery store.

He warned: “We lose our humanity when we are thrilled by the destructive power of our military.”

“I know that the American people are better than this,” he wrote.

Cupich is the archbishop of Chicago, Pope Leo’s hometown and one of the largest dioceses in the United States.

That Iranian warship was at a training excercise that the USA were meant to attend but decided not to last minute. It had no weapons as per protocol. Cruel people. Oil at 110 a barrell already, that will be the catalyst to end this war. The worry is what he will do to distract from it.

What throws Trump's lies back at him about Iran's intents is that it didn't try to block the flow of oil through the straits. It looked like they knew the usefulness of oil income and put that above defence options, and the Israelis and Trump then went and threw a spanner in the world trade system with their war over the alleged soon-to-be possession by Iran of nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles. It seems Iran remembered the Suez crisis and what happened to the nations who tried to block free passage of trade through a narrow waterway.

Gotta say I’m impressed by the Iranian spokespeople I’ve heard so far. They’ve had the most woeful shock imaginable, could be killed at any minute and yet still manage to sound quite measured. Just imagine Trump or Hegseth under similar circumstances.

There is no protocol saying ships travel unarmed to exercises.

The sinking seems completely unnecessary and unwarranted (compare with activities in e.g. the Falklands) but it complied with the LOAC. It seems like it was almost certainly done as a fairly offensive ego trip though.

There is a reason no US president has attacked Iran before despite it's strong terrorist links. It's economic suicide.

One problem the US will have compared to Iraq, if they put boots on the ground, is Iran's mountainous terrain, unlike Iraq. About 55 % of Iran’s land is mountainous, especially along the Zagros and Alborz ranges, with many peaks above 3,000 m.

Barrel of oil almost $120 now.

The world economy will grind to a halt if this isn't sorted out in the next month.

Country star Maren Morris recently sparked a wave of discussion online after calling out voters who now say they “didn’t vote for this” when it comes to Donald Trump’s political impact.

The Grammy-winning singer from Texas, who has frequently spoken about political issues, posted a blunt message aimed at people who supported Trump but are now expressing regret. According to Morris, voters need to acknowledge their role in the outcomes of the leaders they choose.

In her comments, Morris argued that Trump’s record and public behavior were already well known before the election. Because of that, she said it’s difficult to accept claims from supporters who now say they were misled.

She also criticized the media environment surrounding conservative politics, saying that partisan outlets can sometimes function more like messaging machines than sources of balanced information. In her view, that environment has helped shape a political culture where loyalty often outweighs accountability.

Morris didn’t stop there. She pointed to several controversial figures connected to Trump’s political circle and suggested that the current situation is a predictable result of elevating personalities over competence.

Who is she aiming that at? Trump supporters have never listened to reason in 10 years. Most of them are bumpkins who think Trump is their other daddy sent from heaven.

Was Rubio calling for a return to imperialism? He said "godless Communist revolutions" and "anti colonial uprisings" "draped the hammer and sickle" over much of the world. He praises western empires and laments they contracted in 1945 onwards.

Iran released a LEGO type add showing what and why they’re fighting for. If someone could post it.

I think we've been so indoctrinated by US/Israel racism, propaganda and consumerism that we feel surprised that other countries have a right to exist, have different opinions, leaders, cultures and history.

Also, US/Israel leadership have set the bar terribly, terribly low as to what constitutes good civilized leadership.

And we've such money wasting, bland, lap dog leaders here we actually don't know what good leadership is anymore.

At best half a rung higher. At best. Both believe they have a right to do whatever the hell they want to weaker countries and both have clearly zero empathy for victims. And the only reason Trump doesn't treat his own domestic enemies like Putin does is because the law doesn't let him yet. If he could,he definitely would

Money and oil price is probably the only thing that will make this thing end, certainly not the suffering of innocent civilians. Well, whatever it takes, the sooner it ends the better

They sank an allegedly unarmed ship and double tapped a girls school. The US is a rogue nation whose leadership cares nothing about human lives - greed is their god

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

I hope you’re right- but given the behaviour of voters to date I’m America, I’m not going to believe it until I see it; Trump and MAGA are becoming like cornered rats- you could see it in Pete Hegseth‘s televised address at the start of this conflict- it was a pathetic Hollywood esque style delivery - a “B” movie or straight to video production. But you could see and hear the desperation in his delivery - he didn’t believe a word he was saying but was hoping the American people did.

I think we’ll see more desperation in the coming months- this administration doesn’t apologise- it doubles down. Will there even be mid term elections this year? Probably, but with plenty of rules such as ID at the polling stations and no postal voting or ICE agents surrounding every polling booth in certain swing states- to discourage ethnic democrat voters.

"mistake" my arse. They know well that their room temperature IQ viewers won't check anything.

Don't forget they were fined $787m for lying about election fraud.

    I'm aware of that.

How does calling Team USA hockey players "monkeys" who don't read avenge a slight from the WH? It doesn't, it feeds into more back and forth.
