Six rounds of Interviews

You are never going to really tell if someone will fit no matter how many interview you will do. That's going to take months in the job before that really becomes apparent. You will tell as much in 30 mins to be honest as in a few hours and not waste people's time on both sides. In my current role I had one interview for 30 mins that's it. My previous employer went from one round and hiring to anything up to 4 rounds of interviews and it was a total waste of time. As for meeting multiple people and "getting on" with multiple people I found the opposite I would have people I wanted to hire, with the right skills and who I was very happy with who would then move on to rounds of interviews with other managers (who I myself may not have been overly getting on with). They would ask unsuitable questions (due to their background not actually matching the role I was hiring for), get agitated when their questions weren't answered and try to say a person I wanted to hire was unsuitable. I have I think two example that I had to argue over to hire and both have gone on to be excellent members of staff and have outstayed me with that employer.

30 mins to an hour was more than enough to make a judgement as I said earlier my mind would usually be made up based on the CV and 10 or 15 mins asking a few questions based around the content in the CV would be enough to tell if they were a spoofer or actually knew their stuff.

Completly agree with this, I have been on the interviewer side of the table and generally within 20 mins I know if the person is right or not. It can be a bit harder to make that call if it's a video call but you can still get a feeling one way or another from a person.

Ive been the interviewer too and have had some interviews that didn't make it to 20 minutes.

I only ever had this once, the person I was interviewing clearly had made up most of the experience on the CV and had no clue about what he was talking about, it was a "thanks for your time" moment.

6 rounds is a red flag, imagine how frustrating it would be working in such a red-tape environment day in day out.

6 rounds of interviews is a sign of a HR department trying to justify their existence or a US Multinational utterly terrified of European workers rights. Both are huge red flags.

Last year, a guest on RTE's The Business said this is over-engineering the recruitment process.

Thanks for all the comments on this, I don't feel like I made a bad call on this one! It's the last time will apply for a position in a business oriented social media company 😉

Is this the first time in the history of Boards when every single one of the respondents agreed with each other?

I bet if I started a thread in AH saying the sky is blue, Tom from Lizard People Awareness Ireland would be posting that it's not actually blue, it only looks blue because thats what the Lizard People want us to think, meanwhile Dave from Flat Earthers Ireland would be on saying actually there is no sky to begin with.

Ask FiFA, they might give you something big and gold.

I was on a Talent Screen call yesterday to talk about a role in IT.

    The process is 4 stages

Hiring manager interview (plus one other)
    Practical leadership interview (2 people)
    System design interview (2 people)
    Interview with senior leadership (??)

It's far too much and off putting. I think at least one of those rounds should be merged. For my sanity but also for the people doing the interviews. Imagine being the hiring manager, finding the ideal candidate and then having to wait for 3 more rounds before the job can be offered.

And in the meantime, the perfect candidate gets offered something else.

Practical Leadership interview, what does that even mean? And unless your role is on the exec team there is no reason for senior leadership to be involved, that's my opinion anyway.
