This thread is just another excuse to have a go at progressive leftists.

Wouldn't people give out about anything?

I'd like to know if James O'Flynn wrote an official letter about this week's case of the stalker who followed the woman into a Dublin Hotel with his belt in his hand and got a suspended sentence?

In isolation, it’s a non-story. Ten years ago it would just have been a laugh. But after a decade of progressive politics, we’ve had enough. You can’t talk about ‘pregnant people’ (HSE) and ‘bodies with vaginas’ (Lancet) and then act surprised when we don’t find it funny that a beared bloke dressed up as a woman is representing Mother’s Day.

While I despise that misogynistic sh-t too, I think this is silly by O'Flynn - and takes away from real concerns like prisons and sports. Mam gets in free, so he's dressing up as a mam to get in free. There's nothing stating he IS a woman - it's very much acknowledging he isn't.

Strange comment from India Willoughby though - asking if Ken believes trans people should be allowed in ads. Where did that come from? And this ad features a crossdressing man - not a trans person.

Wait until they find out those burly bearded participants in wigs in the women's mini marathon aren't actually women.

    🙈🙉🙊

I take your point, but I think it’s an opportunity to make a stand. Dublin Zoo knew what they were doing. They were playing with gender expectations at a time when gender is perhaps the most controversial topic in politics, and Willoughby’s tweet proves it.

They’ve put out a tut-tutting statement that reminds me of the annual ‘winter lights’ controversy. Every year, Dublin City Council explains in exasperated tones that the Christmas lights are a subset of the winter lights. I think it’s a bogus justification, but I’ve always thought, If the people who pay your wages object to it strongly, surely you should want to change it regardless of whether their criticism is entirely rational. If it were progressives who had objected to it for whatever reason, it would be gone the next day.

It looks like the Giraffes are visitors in the zoo looking at the animals.

has anyone asked the illustrious TD if he sees an irony in posting his objection on a site which provides illegal porn generation capabilities?

Ken O'Flynn, a gay man who voted against marriage equality yet subsequently married a man. A spoofer and opportunist from a family of them., his fathers a complete blowhard and his brothers a lunatic and convicted criminal.

He (James) actually reminded me of Brenda and Audrey who fronted up the Bounty Kitchen Towels ads from 2003 till around 2009. At one stage, I even think they ran a hurdles race.

Ken (think you're mixing him up with the drag artist) might find the issue of stalking a little close to home, seeing as his brother was recently convicted of harassing a young woman.

Obviously the bearded bloke in a yellow frock (dressed as a pantomime Dane) has nothing to do with Mother's day, other than to insult women. Hard to believe it's a real advert in 2026, and if genuine (I wonder)? then it's so behind the curve ….

Do the advertising committee at the Zoo really think it's progressive to push the 2014 "Conchita Wurst look". It's just very silly and demeaning to mothers. It's either a parody gone wrong, or a skit done for a laugh. Reminds me of Big bird in Sesame Street.

You can only laugh at people who get worked up about this kind of stuff - on both sides. Have a day off lads, there are far bigger issues in the world than this nonsense.

I don't think the intention is to insult women at all. The intention is to joke that he's dressing up as a mammy because mams get in free on mothers' day.

So i walk up to the Zoo with my child, I look like a man, but ask for only a child ticket, will the staff have nerve to question my gender and charge me the price of a ticket?

If i say im the childs mother will this be questioned, in this day and age would they have the audacity to assume my gender?

An excellent free publicity campaign from Dublin Zoo, well done.

On a serious note it's alarming the number of people kicking up a fuss over it. Have we really lost all sense of humour and fully imported the low IQ, American 'culture wars'? definitely another reason to ban under 16s from social media or block American social media entirely.

Why don't you try it rather than moan about a slapstick advert that you and others clearly have wound yourselves up over!

As a woman & a mother I am not insulted at all. It's well known that James Patrice has a character that is a stereotypical "Irish Mammy" type one. A bit like Brendan Carroll & Mrs Brown. It's a laugh. It's a joke. It's not that deep for gods sake.

    low IQ, American 'culture wars'

You’re a walking, talking cliche. This is every progressive’s dismissal of entirely natural resistance to the woke policies that have been imported from America. Even the phrase ‘low IQ’ - that is an American insult! You’re a slavish follower of progressive American norms and you don’t even realise it.

America is many things, but I'm not sure anyone would consider "progressive" one of them…

    You’re a walking, talking cliche.

Then you go on to use the phrase natural resistance to the woke policies

You're accusing the poster of doing something that you do yourself.
