Liam Delap is possibly ineligible. He's played for England U21s after his 21st and being third generation. Though I think there's been a case or two taken to CAS with players who were denied switches.

Not sure how it works exactly but if his father has an Irish passport wouldn't that make him 2nd generation?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

We'll likely stick to our 5-4-1 that got us into the playoff. Probably the same starting XI bar injuries and suspensions. I think Scales and Cullen are the two missing from the last three games of qualification. Who partners Molumby in midfield would be the only one I'm not sure on who'll start if available.

    ................…….......Parrott

    ...……………….Azaz X Molumby Ogbene

    Manning O'Shea Collins O'Brien Coleman

    ..............................Kelleher

Presume knight will be in midfield beside molumby. Just reading in the indo today about scales and Johnson missing. Think we're OK defensively.

Bit worrying ogbene not playing lately. Azaz and manning are on form with Southampton atm. Jamie mcgrath having a great season with hibs so he'll surely be in the squad.

As long as no major mishaps in next few weeks I think we're in a decent spot going to czechia . Know very few czech players apart from soucek and schick who is a quality operator

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

No I think he's third generation and qualifies through his grandfather as Rory was born abroad.

Preferably it would be good he's playing but I think as long as he's fit for selection that's good. Can't see him playing for Sheffield United going forward as they're not playing with wingers. Lately they've been playing with four CMs and two strikers or five CMs with one as a ten to support the CF.

He plays a good role for us in attack so just having him available is a big plus and same with Coleman in defence. I think he's played more for us than he has Everton this season.

Yeah thinking the same about Collins. Not playing much lately, but less chance of getting injured too!!

Not sure how we could start either Ogbene or Festy, with neither being in match day squads so getting zero game time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 866 ✭✭✭reclose

scales has been a nuisance in the box for set pieces in the last few games so he is a loss

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The Rooster

    Katie McCabe. What a player.

Very surprised we’ve been so much on top. Might be hard to keep that up.

You'd have preferred to score it 15 mins before the end rather than 15 mins in

Be huge to hang in here against the top seeds… I'd say the pressure in the last 20 will be immense, doing well so far though.

Feck. Great goal by Malard in fairness.

<edit> balls, really scrappy second to concede. trickled into the corner

Feck, disappointing result there after playing quite well… deserved a draw out of it. Heartbreak at the end with the goal line clearance and all.

Is he not ineligible anyway after playing a few U21 games for England?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Possibly but two players went to CAS and fought that ruling I believe and won. But Delap played at the U21 Euros at 22 so could be different than those two players.

Nedim Bajrami and Maarten Paes até the players.

Both played competitive international Under 21 football after their 21st birthdays (Bajrami for Switzerland and Paes for Netherlands).

Both then sought to switch nations, despite not formally holding the nationality of the country they were switching to previously (basically both are granny rulers, Bajrami wanted to switch to Albania and Paes to Indonesia).

Both requests were turned down by FIFA but those decisions were overturned by our old friends at CAS. The detail of the Paes one is yet to be released, but the Bajrami one has been and is very interesting from an Irish perspective. The CAS ruling is that not having gone through a paperwork exercise to formally gain citizenship is not enough of a reason to deny a switch, provided the appropriate lineage can be shown. Basically, the player doesn't need to have had citizenship, they just need to have had a grandparent born in the country they want to represent.

Long story short, it looks like CAS have bombed out the issue raised initially by the Luxembourg FA which caused all the problems for Ryan Johansson, and was thought to potentially create problems for any future Louie Barry/Liam Delap switch. My reading of it now is that, following the CAS decision for Bajrami, Barry and Delap will remain Ireland eligible until such time as England cap them in a competitive game for their senior team.

Collins got 90 minutes last night, so good news there.

Smallbone played 45mins for Millwall's U21s yesterday since he did his hamstring back in October. Mightn't play much between now and Prague but will be good to have him available again.

Ogbene at least getting some football too, albeit at U21 level. He scored in the Sheffield derby on Monday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,133 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

I think Jack Taylor should take the spot you marked "X" and start midfield. He was very good v Portugal and has been playing (somewhat) regularly. With Knight and Coventry on the bench.

If Coleman doesn't start, then I'd imagine O'Brien shifts to the right and John Egan comes in. Is it even fair to ask Coleman to start if he hasn't played in so long ?

Coleman had little or no football before our last international window. He'll be grand!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,111 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

yeah we need him, we’ve never not needed him and when he’s gone it’s unclear who will be right back. It’s shouldnt be Jake Obrien anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Coleman would play on one leg for Ireland if he had to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,111 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

Jaysis, Osula’s Danish. That’s a nasty surprise. Never played senior for them.

    Starting team v Hungry was

    Kellegher

    O'Brien, Collins, O'Shea

    Coleman, Molumby, Cullen, Scales

    Ogbene, Parrott, Azaz

I could see O'Brien at RWB and Manning at LWB if there's doubts over Coleman and Scales being suspended

Knight, Taylor or McGrath instead of Cullen I would assume and dont think there'll be other changes unless Szmodics comes in for Ogbene for fitness reasons

Molumby is technically one worst players i have ever seen play international football.

He worries me against a side like Czechs or worse Denmark

Molumby and Knight are very limited by international standards unfortunately. Both will give 100% though. Get stuck in, give it their all. Good championship level battlers.

We desperately need a promising young midfielder to come through the u21s.

Still, we've a strong defence and Parrott is in great form. Gives us a fighting chance!

He is atrocious. Hate to see him near the team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,764 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Yes agree. We have a chance no question.

Midfield is only area im worried about especially long term. We need find few CMs badly.
