What is the one thing that Trump can announce that makes this gamble worth it? Killing the leader. What happens after that is up to the Iranians (so Trump will claim).

When looking at what could be taken as a win, killing the leader would rank at the top of the list. Capturing Maduro meant that the actual legality etc were forgotten about.

For sure. The power vacuum could be a shitshow. Earlier this week I filled the oil tank and booked two flights for later this year. Oil is priced in advance but it's certainly going to rise fast. That will have an impact on the midterms.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

I'm trying to be positive, but yes, it'll more than likely be a shitshow.

This absolute douchebag has been trying to recreate Obama's picture and yet again failed miserably

To be honest, I think the pic below is an accurate reflection of America right now, kind of like the portrait of Dorian Gray in America's attic

So we just believe Trump, who demonstrably lies about everything?
    Yeah, sure

I never said to just believe Trump. But if it is true then it would be quite the result.

Nobody will be talking about the loss of lives to civilians, the cost of the operation or that Israel now seems to be in charge.

Trump will be the POTUS can finally got rid of Khomeni.

Or the president who started a(nother?) war to distract from his indiscretions with kids 🤷‍♂️

It is not Khomeini. It is (was?) Khamenei

I doubt the symbolism of the latter is quite the same as the former.

I don't know how significant his death would be or how this all pans out in general.

Hopefully the Iranian people will come out on top and hopefully Trump will not stink out Hell too badly.

Despite everything, the Democratic party is still more unpopular than the Republican party. The Democrats are ahead in the generic ballot at levels that have led to 50-60 seat flips in recent Congressional elections like 2010 and 2018. Gerrymandering and voter suppression might affect that though this year.

It’s like 4 year olds saying my daddy would beat your daddy in fight. The state of the f world.

Trump has just issued a new statement on his Truth Social media app, warning Iran against hitting back.

“Iran just stated that they are going to hit very hard today, harder than they have ever been hit before,” the US president wrote.

“They better not do that, however, because if they do, we will hit them with a force that has never been seen before!”

    Question about this:

Are Apple Watches inherently risky? I haven't worn a watch in decades, phone long replaced it, but we do have a cheap watch for travel, 1 step above those you wind.

More than 27 America military bases in the Middle East have been attacked by Iran - that number surely gives the lie to Trumps promise to keep ‘America’ out of world affairs -

is there a mess on this earth that they are not up to their necks in?

Reports of over 100 girls killed in a school to keep Epstein off the news. That's the kind of POTUS he is.

It's a little bit of a wake up call to all our teachers and other workers in Dubai, Qatar etc too. At the end of the day..these counties are not Canada or Australia. They may paint their image to be welcoming westernised new era Middle Eastern countries but as we have seen, they can be so easily swept up into the turmoil of war.

    To a certain extent yes.

But it happened to Ukraine. It could happen to Moldova, Poland, Baltic states, Finland, Sweden, Denmark... it could happen here.

Talk of "taking" Greenland,  strikes on boats in the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean killing innocent boatmen, kidnapping the president of Venezuela, talk of invading Cuba, threatening China and now bombing Iran, all since January!

And that's just the military mess. Let's not forget the utter economic shambles caused by the correct SCOTUS ruling tarrifs illegal, or one of the most cringe moments of his tenure (and that's saying something), him making a winner of the noble prize hand it over to him,. tearing down part of the White House for a gigantic ball room, pressurizing Democrats to name an airport after him, or having an Olympic winning team call over for room temperature McDonald's!!

He's literally lost whatever is left of his f**king mind, and I can't see how anyone living in the US can be oblivious to that fact.

On the last point, I couldn't see how anyone could be oblivious either.…but a significant proportion must be or don't care…

I think it comes down to a lot of factors.....some people are morons that want easy answers (to real and also perceived problems that aren't really problems at all)....poor education (I mean look at the clowns he surrounds himself with) .... society is very divided/polarised over there between the haves and have nots...any sort of social contract is broken for a chunk at the bottom (it seems you can work multiple **** jobs and still not have enough to do anything but scrape by never mind provide adequately for your retirement etc, proper healthcare - I was over there two decades ago and the amount of people in their mid to late seventies working crap service jobs even then was something to behold....never mind the volume of homeless/destitute working no jobs).....their political system itself is fucked......ultimately you can choose between two fairly shite candidates most of the time...and those candidates can only be there if they are beholden to large donors ...the kind of donors that then influence policy so that society remains divided between the haves and have nots...something like that is always going to trend in the wrong direction….(social justice wise anyway)...then you have utter corruption and polarisation in the media/news outlets and malign influence of social media....couple that with a chunk of poorly educated morons only ripe for believing what suits/conspiracy theories (never mind the broad thrust of some of those theories appearing to carry some water- a small shadowy cabal controlling world affairs - what was going on with epstein et al) .....now add in a kind of ongoing technological cold war surrounding AI between the US and China and I'm beginning to think Entropy really does apply to absolutely everything including complex hierarchies and systems of human organisation no matter the rationalities of proportions of the actors ....

Sure look what happened across the water.…who in their right mind would vote for brexit (especially UK given the position they were in within the EU)

And as it turned out there were plenty of them....a sizeable chunk of have nots that were left behind with nothing to lose, a sizeable chunk of haves that were lamenting the England of the late 50s/early 50s and not necessarily separate but perhaps overlapping to a degree a chunk of dimwits that believed what they were told through wherever they got their information ...people whose vote damaged their own and their children's livelihoods

And don't think we are not stupid enough to do similar here in time too

Cant believe the ayatollah was just chilling in his palace knowing that Armada was there.

    Bizzare stuff. Similar to Maduro.

These lads are either so high on their own power they think theyre invincible or American surveillance/strike capacity is way beyond what other nations think capable.

Either way regardless of what anyone thinks of the merits of either operation you cant deny theyve been resounding successes for the Trump Administration.

Two for two and no American casualties.

Trump could strike the Aras too in a preemptive strike because our president might say something truthful but nasty.

    That's where we're at now.

This is where the movie The Godfather really comes into its own in explaining the land of the free.

Please define success; what was achieved that will make a difference for the administration in the next election (Congress this year) or for the American people (taking a few decades view)? Don't get me wrong; I have no positive feelings for any of the leaders here (alive or dead) but to claim a success when it will have no positive impact on things that matters for Trump (and by extension his voters) is a bit of a word salad approach to things. Will Venezuela now sell oil to USA? Nope nor are American oil companies interested in going there. Will Iran stop being led by extremists? Nope as the miliary is still in charge and will simply keep going down the same route as now. So exactly what's the success? Because to me this is only a) building resentment among voters back home (i.e. costing votes in the upcoming election by motivating the opponents of foreign wars and driving away independents) and b) build resentment driving more people into the ISIS/Al Quida et al camps in the rest of the world leading to future terrorist attacks while on the ground nothing has really changed in the countries themselves.

    Plus he's got Doonbeg here.

Everyone can see a pattern emerge. The optics of quick wins that chime in his head like a Las Vegas slot machine.

He doesn't have the attention span for a sustained invasion of anywhere, it's all just thuggish shakedowns.

I note that usually in times of geopolitical uncertainty the USD gets a big bounce. That ain't happening under Trump as he's the one creating the uncertainty.

If oil prices spike it will get more people off the fence regarding EVs and home solar, another chip away at the petrodollar.
