With express delivery yes but otherwise its 1-2 working days. They do deliver on release day for pre-orders.

That would be the ideal but the pitch was for a Demon's Souls esque remake.

Yeah the guy reached out to devs and a few replied with details but the same guy was banned from reddit for BS 'inside info' so no one knows what to believe.

Yeah, smyths close off preorders week of launch. Should be back available in the morning.

Ah. As much as their remake of Demons Souls is still one of the best looking PS5 games to date, I don't think Bloodborne needs the same treatment.

I know there were complaints about what they did with Demons Souls and what was lost in terms of atmosphere, soundtrack and even just the general "feel" of the game (never played the original but loved the remake), but Bloodborne also just wouldn't need that level of work. All it needs and really all people want from it is 60fps and port it to PC.

Man, you just reminded me of how they butchered the Demon's Souls soundtrack. It was so unique and they turned it into background Hollywood drone by over producing it. And now the only one available is the remake one.

If you played the original you'd realize they made the remake as if it was set in the world of the Arkham games.

While I agree the art and music critcisms when it comes to Demon's Souls (and I would have rathered a more straightforward remaster focused on improving performance), I do think it needs it some defending on two main grounds.

Gameplay wise, it is incredibly faithful. It's the same game, just running better, and any minor tweaks are for the better.

It's also the single best performing and running version of any of the From Software Souls games, while boasting the highest level of graphical fidelity. Every in-house From release has had some odd or bizarre performance quirks, whereas Demon's Souls PS5 was pretty much perfect. It's still the best entry point Souls game, and I think the sheer smoothness means it's hard to recommend the PS3 version over it, even with the compromised art.

Again, some key art and music changes are absolutely for the worse, but in other moments its extraordinary seeing parts of the world finally realised with outrageous fidelity and frame-perfect performance. And that's why losing Bluepoint is a shame, because in terms of performance, they were some of the best around.

I ended up getting Lenticular Edition - stock came back online… My order history shows:

Resident Evil Requiem Lenticular Edition PS5 Qty: 1€69.99

Message Smyths on Facebook see can they get it changed to Lenticular…

It is if you pay 3.50 extra, AFAIK it's up until 10PM… Regular orders are usually next day for me but I didn't want to risk it on this one..

Also on a side note, anyone want a copy of RE Village for PC - I have a spare Humble Bundle code but I already own it..

Tamoor Hussain (Gamespot) did a video earlier this week following the closure of Bluepoint, where he argues that Demons Souls may be the best Playstation Launch title ever.

Staying up late on a work night to play RE9 tonight, excited. One of the last few series I still give half a toss about.

Recency bias ballocks. It's not more important than ridge race and wipeout. It's not better than SSX. And definitely not better than Lumines, Wipeout Pure or Gravity Rush. It's a ropey remake of a PS3 game.

Demon's' souls's original is class... So is the remake, both absolutely class. The remake has such a level of polish that it looked fantastic but still faithful to the original gameplay, Bluepoint did such s good job with it, they should have been given cart blanche to do what they wanted next.

As much as I like Demon's Souls remake, Astro's Playroom was a better launch game as both something new and something that showed off the console hardware.

    And can never forget Resogun.

In fairness his point isn't about the importance or quality of the game itself, but how DeS is a game that years later still acts as a showcase for what the console can do and how in some ways Bluepoint managed to unlock the potential of the console with a launch game that many other games years later still struggle to reach. It did that, while also being a remake of a PS3 game.

If only it was an xbox game would be done for free probably a year or two ago :(

Staying up late on a work night to play RE9 tonight, excited. One of the last few series I still give half a toss about.

Ah I preordered it on keyreseller so now waiting for that to appear Gamesharing is great and all and to get resi for 27 quid is a no brainer but agonising at same time

Loved the Demon’s Souls remake. Never played the original but all I care about in Souls games is the gameplay and graphics and both were class. Don’t care about soundtrack or storylines

Just doesn't hold up as an argument to me. It's a remaster of a 15 year old game that even on release, and as the game's biggest defender, had some issues. And the remaster is basically a star wars special edition remaster. Here's a prettier version of a game you played 15 years ago doesn't scream new console and tech to me.

I think the sound track can really makes a game so memorable. Super Mario Galaxy, Skyrim, Breath of the Wild, Ocarina of Time, Ori Will of the Wisps, ..

And the sound track never ages due to technology reasons.

It's also endless free marketing for a game or franchise.

Story is also important for the same reason

But for some reason video game companies don't really invest in great story telling or sound track.

I can understand for a lot of video games the story doesn't matter, but where you're selling a game based on story, it should.

Silent hill 2, story soundtrack winner, another unnecessary remake that can't capture the essence of what made the original brilliant

Marathon server slam available now, anybody try it yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,545 ✭✭✭Unearthly

I should clarify that I don’t care about storyline or soundtrack for Souls games. Some fights have great music which enhances it but overall it’s more the fighting mechanics ( most important) , the exploration and graphics.

Smyths have click and collect option available now for Resi 9, pick up anywhere between tomorrow morning and Sunday evening. My local had 6 lenticular editions and 7 standard so have my copy booked. I have w feeling they'll seem quick enough.

Hell even Tetris back in the day. Love me a good soundtrack to go with my gaming

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,801 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

That Samson game looks and sounds fun. 25 dollars, compact semi open world, sounds like Mafia approach. PotentialMoke could be on to a sleeper hit in the fantasy League.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,801 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Just checked again and they have 1 lenticular editions left in stock in my local smyths so I'd say book yers if looking to get one today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 58,506 ✭✭✭✭Necro

I've it downloaded and ready to play after work today. Should be a nice start to the weekend.

Looks good. Only on PC initially though I think. Hopefully does well and console version follows

Honestly think soundtrack and sound effects are way, way more important to videogames than story, especially after making them for a while. Story is a nice to have, a bit of polish but really isn't even needed if you have a good gameplay loop. Sound on the other hand is absolutely essential.

I was told to never abandon an idea or think it's bad until you add sound effects. Just that little bit of feedback adds so much. One of my game projects felt like a failure until I added some 8bit sounds and it's just all came together. Soundtracks can also add an awful lot.

Someone on a podcast recently said that music is the thing videogames do better than anything else and story is what they do worse. Can't really agree more. Of course there's exceptions in terms of story. Especially with the trend of Hollywood (and some big budget games) having soundtracks that try their best to not stand out, videogames are way ahead of them there. Hollywood isn't matching the likes of the soundtrack to Ace Combat 7 and Armoured Core 6.
