m Murphy not good enough, neither is McDermott. Not a good enough win. Kk in trouble

They're only on the panel, it'll take time FFS.

How long was TJ hanging around the panel before he took off.

Completely agree, they've barely played a game and are still developing. We're in a phase where we NEED to see as many players as possible and we need to trust that these young men at the start of their inter county careers can develop. The days are gone where we can expect 5 players from u20 to be ready for senior intercounty straight away. We have to be patient and maybe they will be proven to not be good enough but until then we just have to support them. This is a transitional year for Kilkenny, no one should be expecting an all Ireland.

McDermott is good enough and if he gets plenty of game time he will get better in time. He is only 19 and plenty of years ahaead of him.

Give McDermott and Marty Murphy 2/3 years. They have been excellent for kk underage last few years. The only small criticism at there age would be they need a big year for there clubs . With proper coaching and S&C these 2 will be hopefully future stars. Look at lads like Gearoid Hegarty, Michael Fennelly, TJ Reid, David Fitzgerald of Clare all took a while to grasp Intercounty hurling and fill into there frame. The 2 lads need time and have high scope.

Ah stop. That's desperate luck for Murphy and Moylan. How bad is martys hamstring injury?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

Exactly. Look at the Irish rugby team. Everyone saying they were an ageing tired team. They throw in a few young fresh faces and run England off the field.

Just shows young players in all sports need a chance to show what they can do.

Any word on how Adrian Mullen is progressing? It’s so crucial that we get him fit and free of injury for the championship. He’s such an important player for a team in transition that needs all its established players and leaders on the field.

Mullen brings everything you want in a modern hurler, physicality, work rate, aerial ability and scores from distance. Whether at midfield or half forward he links play wins dirty ball , is an option for puck outs and is a real leader now for this team.

We’re always going to be competitive but having Mullen available and at his best could make the difference between being competitive and being a real contender for the top honours in my opinion.

I think we need all our top players on form and injury free to have any chance of been competitive at the business end. Unfortunately Mullen has been injury prone for years now. I dont think you can plan for him to be available for the whole championship with his recent history. I think you plan without him but if he plays and to his best its like a new player.

From what I heard Adrian and an operation in January on the injury that plagued him last year. He's back running the last week or so. I'm sure he's still a good bit off being back playing but he's on the way back which is the good news.

Heard this as well. He struggled badly with a groin injury last year and ideally should have had surgery but he struggled on through the summer with it. He was well below his normal high standards and it's hard to think the I injury didn't play a significant part in that.

A fit and refreshed Adrian Mullen would be a massive addition in Championship this year.

Thats great news. Hopefully be ready in time for the championship and the good thing about Leinster is you can ease him back slowly.

I think by Leinster championship we will have a nice selection of forwards to choose from if all fit: C Kenny, J Donnelly, S Donnelly, L Moore, E Cody, TJ Reid, T Clifford, T Phelan, G Dunne, M Keoghan, Hogan, A Mullen plus midfielders of J Molly/ D Blanchfield who can pick off a few points. Hoping B Ryan can make an appearance and H Lawlor too.

Hard to see him getting game time now really. A lad like him should be allowed play club matches for his club in April. Plenty of matches is what lads like, Shine, Mcderrmott , Murphy, Phelan need. Come June it will stand to them

Yes I forgot about Harry. Any update in his recovery do you know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,691 ✭✭✭Marrooned

as regards Harry Shine he will need a few games with the club to get back into the swing of things.

Bring on the rain it will soften the pitch for the Cork lads who are used to playing on a perfect pitch.

A win against Cork Sunday would be a big shot in the arm for this squad and kk have good record against Cork at home but this is probably corks best team for a long time. Cork have a lot of injuries healy,Dalton, harnedy,Coleman and Barrett are all out. Kk have being very very wateful in the last 3 matches they will need to be much more clinical this weekend. I also agree with nowlan park being in such poor condition it should help kk who will give Ben o Connor all the physicality he wants. Tallis offers way more with the puckouts and it was chalk and cheese in the last 2 matches. I also agree blanchfields best position is wing back and he can also score long rang points from here. His tackling and delivery of ball in is poor though. I thought killian Doyle was under pressure and his side got bombarded with a lot of ball. I'm really surprised after the last few years paddy deegan is still being played wing back. I'd be picking Richie Reid over deegan every day.Sunday will be a great test for some of the backs. Kk spent years trying to solve the midfield position and molloy and Kenny compliment each other well and both should be left there imo. Its well publicised here that the attackers are getting some dreadful ball there's no sign of any improvement yet. Another thing is when kk get a free on the half back line is there no one on the half back line to let in a quick ball to the corners or in around the square before the opposition regroups instead its slow build up that recently just ends up going wide anyway. Its disappointing half way through the league and there's no free taker emerging. Blanchfield probably the best long rang free taker in defence hopefully michael brennan will see more game time over the next few weeks. Probably won't see many changes from the last day. I also agree a spell out on the half forward line for Stephen donnellly wouldn't go astray. The secound year is always harder but he has being lucky enough with injury thankfully. Adrian mullen was ruled out for the league its all about trying to get him right for the championship. Shine is well ahead of schedule and should also be back for the championship. Tommy is a good bit behind harry. Tom phelan has put in a huge amount of work but it would be hard to expect him to reach the high standards of a few years ago. A dark horse who is a few weeks away is Ian byrne and he is a excellent free taker and wouldn't surprise me to see him get gametime later in the year.Eoghan lyng and Ivan bolger aren't far away from making the match day squads. I also agree with others that kk supporters will have to be patient with a few players like marty murphy and Ed mcdermot. It wasn't long ago lads like Billy ryan was constantly taking stick but was really coming into his own before travelling.it takes a few years to get up to speed. Adam english aidan o Connor and coughlan from Limerick are probably 3 or 4 years in around that squad.

Its not just the county camogie teams that have to play home games in different counties .....

Have to say I admire the commitment of those people over the LGFA Junior team. None of the Muckalee girls make themselves available for it as far as I'm aware and their record has been, well, sobering over the past couple of years.
They've played 5 games in the league this year, scored 13 points in total and conceded 190. You have to wonder how they keep the thing going at all with those kind of demoralising results.

Travelling outside of the county for matches is the least of their concerns I'd imagine.

Heard he was back hurling recently, has been running since December or so. Still probably a month or two away from being ready to play a competitive game would be a guess.

Rob Downey and diarmuid healy not available either. Should make it a 50/50 game. Weather not looking good for Sunday.

They are the county champions and should backbone the county team.

No reason Kilkenny can't go and beat Cork weekend with their few injuries now, bit more optimistic now than 2 or 3 days ago.

I would like to see a change up with our wing backs, Blanchfield should be one half back I really feel if he could get back to his form of 2 or 3 years ago, probably with Doyle moving to Midfield maybe if C Kenny continues in forward line. Also feel Paddy Deegan has plenty to still offer with the panel but not as a starter in the halfback line for me. Doesn't man mark tight enough, I Think he could offer us something different coming on in games or just maybe starting half forward.

But they are amateurs and can do as they please.....

Ballyhale hurlers are amateurs too but it wouldn't be looked on very kindly if all of them decided not to play for kk .
