I assume Jarvis was rusty and will take some time to get up to speed. No way there’d have been no mention of him when he was here before. Need to get that guy back.

Sobawale is a big, fast lad who is a good going forward. He could be a bit reckless diving into tackles so will be interesting to see has his spell in the UK have improved this. Waterford fans are disappointed that two local players who are both right backs have come back from the UK to join other clubs when we have no right back.

Adam Brennan with the best Rovers debut I can remember. He was brilliant getting up and down the left side, dangerous going forward and tenacious tracking back. The quality of his first touch is amazing. To chip in with an assist and then a goal as well, was fearful we hadn't really replaced Honohan but this lad seems more than capable. Fair result I thought, wasn't a great game first half but second half improved and other than a 5-10 minute spell felt we dominated.

Also happy with the signing of Sobowale, remember him for Waterford before he went to the UK and he was impressive. Gives us pace and depth at wing back which is needed.

The rumours that Mipo is out for 3 months will hopefully force us into signing a replacement

poor start for Derry all things considered, very worrying performance wise. Shoe horning mcclean into central midfield cant last much longer.

I see what you did there.

What’s the story with that jersey anyway? Don’t see anything online above it.

Thing is a decade ago he'd have been a shìte midfielder. If they signed him for anything other than wide left its a utterly daft move.

Yes he obviously wanted to go back to Derry but if Derry had no clue how to use him they shouldn't have signed him.

yeh never had the brain for cm. not quite sure how management landed on putting him in there.

Surprised Boyd doesn't get more time. Are his performance levels not that great? Would seem a good focal point for some of the creative players behind him.

A fit, durable and in-form Sean Boyd would significantly help tick off Shels forward line issues and goal returns but that's the problem question marks have always hung around Boyd's durability, the past 12 months it has been going to increasing levels of Boyd's minutes being delicately managed which is untenable

Mipo is most likely never going to be answer there and if he is injured now then that completely sets things back if there were hopes for progression from him this season. Martin also is never going to be able to lead the line all season or hit 15 goals, Freitas is a complete unknown wildcard very hard to assess from a small sample of minutes some nice touches/vision but he doesn't look like he has the physicality to lead as a no. 9

We were letting him off to Belgium before the deal fell through so I wouldn’t bank on us being forced into that.

Crazy if true at 27 years old.

how many years are they gone?

You won’t find many lads who’ve had as many injuries as Boyd unfortunately. Would love to see him recover to his best but I wouldn’t bank on it.

A perfect example of times when managers seem to miss the things all the fans are saying.

I discussed this at length with friends, work colleagues and other Dcfc sesson ticket holders. We all said "where are they going to play him?".

James was always on the left side. We had Duffy and Fleming there who had a great season. To bring James in meant putting one of those guys elsewhere OR, and what has been done, shoehorning him into a position that doesnt suit. Q

I would be an admirer of James and all that he achieved, but he never had the ability to be a central midfielder. And especially not at 37. He is being shown up as not able for it.

I dont think the club planned as to how they were going to use him. It was simply, yip we'll take him back. The money would have been better spent buying 2 young hungry footballers with LOI experience, but what are ya gonna do?

Adam Brennan was excellent alright. Early days but he seems to be the real deal and that Josh Honohan sized hole doesn't seem quite so big now.

Great to get a win after the delayed start to the season and for the most part it was a good performance. Could easily been behind though during Pat's good spell with McGinty making an excellent save and Edmonson clipping the post with a shot that he really should have scored with. The reponse was good and with effective substitutions it was a strong finish.

On a night when a teenage debutant got man of the match it was great to see a stalwart from another era, Enda Stevens, make his first appearance back with the club to replace Brennan when he had to go off with cramp.

Kind of came out of nowhere. Looks to be the 3rd kit.

Could they have launched this because everyone hated the pyjama top one or is launching things with no promotion a thing done these days? I'm out of touch.

I think it's just a case of Occam's Razor. They needed a third kit and it's not ready for production (or more likely it's being launched later to maximise sales of the away Kneecap).

I personally quite like the pajama top.

Roche already called back from loan at Athlone after both Casey and Barrett went off injured last night. Our season looking in ribbons already if that’s in any way what it looks like.

Anyone know what’s the story about Michael Noonans family complaining to the FA about his move to Germany not going ahead? It’s behind a Times paywall

They didn’t complain about the move to Germany not going ahead, as that was their choice

They’re complaining about an ageeement Rovers have with someone in the UK, presumably an agent working for them but it isn’t clear

Seems clear that the mam is the source for this

I see that Pats have signed James Brown from Kilmarnock. Hopefully he's a shrewd signing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,078 ✭✭✭PGE1970

Good player but he's a RB. Strange one with Boyce already signed.

Yep, I would have thought our issues were at the other end of the pitch. Still, he does seem to be a good quality player.

We weren't too bad in general play against Rovers, and could have been ahead, but they just had the extra little bit of quality when it mattered. Two big home games coming up now. Some rumblings about SK already, which seems a bit crazy after just two away Dublin derbies, but if we don't win the next two, the noise will only get louder.

McClean looks a unwise signing now. Be a brave manager to drop him and risk his usual drama.

For the length of the article it all seems a bit vague and hard to know what's going on. The over dramatic use of "collapse" is a bit much when a deal was agreed with Hoffenheim before it was widely reported that it didn't proceed because Michael and his family decided he didn't want to go to Germany.

Apart from that a couple of things don't seem to add up. If Mrs. Noonan has an issue with a club affiliated to the FAI then why did she make a complaint to the FA in England? Ok, the "other party" may be in England but surely the complaint should have been to the FAI in the first instance. You'd also wonder about the agent and his smear campaign allegation against "individuals". He says he was dealing with Rovers CEO John Martin but seeing as he left that role last summer it's unlikely that he would have had any part in the Hoffenheim negotiations which would appear to have been very recent. One last thing that seems off to me is the mention of an investigation by FIFA, would this not fall under the remit of UEFA in the first instance?

Time will tell I guess, but it's a dissapointing distraction to what is an important season for Michael and the sooner it gets clarified and sorted the better.
