Is the forecast rain moving South East into Southern UK nothing of note over Ireland

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 904 ✭✭✭bazlers

Not alot of activity on radar compared to the forecast. Be interesting to see how rest of today goes.

Cold in a crisp SE breeze this morning in North Longford. So far we have had no rain and everywhere is dry. But i see a finger of rain is fast approaching on the radar, so it won't be long till it is wet here. Anyway managed to get stock fed and stay dry, off to the day job now.

ok thanks, that's good to know. I use Met Eireann……but YR and Windy App too for more accurate information particularly for hiking. Kerry is huge and there can be a big difference between say Dingle and Sneem, or Tralee and Waterville….. South Kerry usually gets more rain.

I live halfway between Tralee and Killarney but spend a lot of time in Sneem and have a daughter living in Waterville. I could be leaving here in brilliant sunshine and arrive to deluges of rain in Sneem! The ME forecast isn't good enough for areas like this.

Anyway it's dry and mild here this morning , but I'm heading to Dingle soon and its often a different story over there!

heavy drizzle and a few heavy showers all yesterday evening in cork city, dry all morning so far. Some activity appearing now on radar, given the amount of coverage on this particular event interesting to see how heavy that will be

Where's all this rain? Not a drop so far, last night nor this morning.

I can’t remember a worse winter in recent years. As runners in Ireland, we’re used to rain and usually just get on with it, but the recent combination of heavy winds and relentless, driving rain has been something else. It feels like it’s gone on for six weeks straight, broken only by a few v short interludes, like yesterday and Saturday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,129 ✭✭✭Robwindstorm

I love Killarney, cycling the ring of kerry, beautiful landscapes. Miserable with me at the moment in Meath with moderate rain. I think the heavier stuff is coming in the afternoon.

Over in Lithuania we’ve had our first fresh snowfall since we arrived on Friday, about 5-6cm overnight and this morning to add to the 40-50cm of snow already on the ground…

    IMG_8507.jpeg

Time to go for a walk down to the beach to see how it all looks and if it’s still frozen!

In normal times this ‘path’ is actually an elevated boardwalk, but now it’s well below the level of the snow on either side..

    IMG_8509.jpeg IMG_8517.jpeg

At almost every junction there are massive mounds of snow that have been there for weeks/months now..

    IMG_8518.jpeg IMG_8519.jpeg

And now to walk through the forest (on another boardwalk) to get to the beach.. snow on the ground isn’t as deep under the Pines

    IMG_8520.jpeg IMG_8521.jpeg

And then we see the sea, and it appears to be a lot more viscous than it was a few days ago…

    IMG_8522.jpeg IMG_8523.jpeg IMG_8524.jpeg

And I see some more snow is coming…. so time to head back…

    IMG_8526.jpeg IMG_8530.jpeg IMG_8532.jpeg

And then I realise I’m a red pepper short of our chicken enchiladas tonight, so time to clear the car of snow and head off and make snow tracks..

    IMG_8533.jpeg

at least it’s a lot warmer than it was a few days ago…

    IMG_8537.jpeg

Although this mornings snow shovelling efforts are appearing to be slowly undone by the very fine snow that’s falling..

    IMG_8538.jpeg

And on the way back from the shop I was treated to a herd of wild deer legging it from something!!

    IMG_8540.gif

We do see them regularly enough out the young lads window, but I’d never seen that many!!

Class photos! The locals must build up serious leg muscles from trekking in the snow for months on end.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

The rain arrived about 20 mins after my first post. Heavy at times, but mostly light and mizzley. Its cold in the breeze too. We are replacing some roof sheets on a shed close to home today and the lads on the roof are fn freezing they tell me. They have rain gear on. I'm nicely enclosed in a heated cab driving the teleporter. I told them we can leave it if they like, but they're hardy souls. We can't sit at home every day they tell me.

Looks like the worst of the rainfall has shifted further south and east out to the Irish Sea. Looks to just showers for rest of the day.

Terrible day in Galway wet and cold is that line on radar approaching Galway a squall line or what ,worst of the weather appears to be further West and North.

Bucketing down in Galway now that seems to be a squall line dark as well.

Pretty much incessant heavy rain in Mid Louth for the last 6 hours with no sign of it easing. I'm at the coast so incredibly windy too at times.

very heavy rainfall here in Meath and looks like lots more to come, waterlogging is getting worse again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,807 ✭✭✭SleetAndSnow

very heavy downpours all of a sudden in cork city in the last half hour. Looking at net weather they Genuinly look to be appearing out of nowhere, developing just before hitting the city

Another sodden day here in Loughlinstown, 10.8mm recorded. Beat my January rainfall record this year, wouldn't be surprised to see the February record, 147.2mm, fall (13th year recording) too, 24mm short of it at the moment. In third place as is.

As a jogger, I've absolutely had enough of this wet spell by now.

another miserable write off a day here in Meath with water running down both sides of the road again and water starting to pool again in the garden, driveway has been partially flooded for over a month.

Most recent day with zero rainfall recorded in Ireland was 29th December 2025.

I got to Dingle about midday and the weather was appalling, grey skies and rain although nothing torrential. I was planning on coming home about 2pm when I saw the sun breaking through.

It turned into the most beautiful afternoon, very warm sunshine and beautiful skies. I went further West, out to Ventry, got a long walk and swim, warmest day so far in the water but that could just be my mind playing tricks from seeing the glorious sun! I hope it makes it's way East… (took in Minard Castle on the way home)

That was amongst if not the strangest downpour of rain I've ever experienced here. Something was very off with it, far too intense.

By the looks of the radar still quite a bit of rain to come for the east and south east!

26.2mm so far today in Greystones. Lots of spot/surface flooding around.

it’s been pretty much pelting it down all day… probably 12-15cm… has fallen…

Ventured out to the garden for a look!!

My new boots have only touched snow…

    IMG_8554.jpeg

And with darkness brings a blank canvas for my smart floodlight..
