Enya's Orinoco Flow was played a short while ago.

They're doing a "Top 500 irish songs" in the lead up to Paddy's Day, so you can bet this is the reason we're getting this sprinkling.

At least we don't have to worry about Chapell Roan winning that one.

Unless they find an angle to bring in all their usual favourites…they probably have some junior in the office trying to find out if Bruno Mars' maternal grandmother came from Thurles or something.

Heard U2 on Dempseys show this morning too.

Now we have the Sawdoctors N17!

There's nothing accidental in any aspect of Today FM's playlist. This is just another flavour of what they do in November in the lead up to Christmas. We've a 5 week lead into Paddy's weekend.

Yep. Their increase of Irish content is obviously related to their poll. And it's only 100 songs, and as usual, the poll highlights around fifty artists and at least three (sometimes more) of their songs, so the top 100 will obviously consist of these songs. At least they included slots also for each decade and not just artists, which is nice.

As soon as Paddy's Day is over, the only Irish songs they will play will be by Dermot Kennedy

A-House was played yesterday. A bit gimmicky but if they play a bitta niche old school stuff I'll be happy.

Something Happens, The Blades, Cry Before Dawn etc. etc.

Over the last 24hrs, with only a couple of hours actually hearing TosayFM, I heard Crazy World, Mandinka, Take a Parachute.

And each time the dj said something along the lines of, "and isnt that a belter".

Well here's an idea TodayFM, maybe play songs like this more often, don't wait until the lead up to St Patrick's or some special Irish Week or whatever. Good songs are good songs, and can be played all year round.

I think it was Foley that said its the 1st song every hour thats an Irish classic.

How would everybody feel if Tubs got a show on Today FM?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,066 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

I'd never listen to him on any station. Doesn't fit with Today FM anyway, News talk possibly but they've changed their lineup already so hopefully not there either.

Snow by JJ72 one of the songs played in an all Irish classic 9 at 11, was not expecting that. Bar the cash machine, Today FM is very listenable at the moment.

He's still toxic property for any Irish radio station.

    This too shall pass.

Why would they take on that ghoul?

    The definition of yesterday's man.

Couldn't they just use the songs from Tom Dunnes Top 30 Irish songs CD released about 20 years ago when he was working on Today FM and update it with Hozier, Fontaines etc.

One song I havent heard but would expect to do well would be Mick Cristophers Hey Day.

Also wondering if we'll end up rehearing Fairytale of New York in March which seems inevitable.

Was pleasantly surprised to hear Cooper sample Volcano by Damien Rice just now, that would be very very high on my own personal list.

If I had my way I'd be going for Something Global-Fight Like Apes and Eve The Apple of my Eye- Bell X1 as among the greatest too (you can probably guess my 'era'). Oh and One Horse Town- The Thrills

Was tuned into &Dave for the first time in a long time and couldn't believe he was doing what is essentially "Fix it Friday".

Because of Google, that was outdated when D'Arcy was still doing it all those years ago but in 2026?

It's just "a bit" that he does. Same as the tiresome "bad jokes". Nothing more than fluffy, filler.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,804 ✭✭✭✭BPKS

No sign of My Bloody Valentine on their list. Strange when they regularly top the list when compiling best Irish album.

I actually heard someone play Heyday last week.

Have to say, I am loving this focus on Irish songs. Absolute crackers are being played, some stone-cold classics and some that I haven't heard in years.

Hopefully the response to this has been big and that they'll get the hint to keep it going beyond March.

Theres been a few plays of Mickey Joe Hartes "We've Got the World".

    A ridiculously good tune.

I've been enjoying hearing Bell X1, Thin Lizzy, Ash and Two Door Cinema Club. People I'd never normally listen to. Even The Boomtown Rats and Aslan too.

Just saying here in the office that we haven't heard anything from Republic of Loose or The Corrs.

Ok calm down Cathal, we know you love him!

In fairness I was agreeing with you until I seen 'ridiculously good', to me it's just a ridiculous tune
