Surely you should do due diligence and know what you are buying. It's like buying a tin of yellow pack beans and throwing a wobbler coz there's no caviar in there.

Katie Hannon and Colm Ó Mongáin keep you company on your evening commute with top stories, expert analysis, and in-depth conversations on news, politics, entertainment and culture.

It lists four elements, including news and politics. So not really like your analogy at all. But those two elements are certainly not 50% of the topics, when in fact they used to make up a significant majority of the content. Also I personally am OK with culture and some entertainment, but if that's to be the format then the presenters are absolutely unsuitable.

Another dreadful show today. Started the show's preview talking about Harry Styles and One Direction, and again later in the show. Also had Irish people living abroad talking about kids school lunches in Belgium, Sweden, Japan and Germany. Riveting. I turned over to Newstalk several times, as I wasn't going to listen to $h1t€ about Harry Styles.

Yes. Almost all Hannon's questions are straight off the acceptable narrative. Then when someone disagrees it elicits a gasp. Any questions on American politics are straight off CNN's coverage the previous day.

    It doesn't give percentages.

It's clear from the description and from the start what the direction was going to be. It is just grumpy old person territory to pretend it was something else that was offered.

If you say so. And like I said, I don't actually mind culture and entertainment - but Katie and Colm are an appalling choice for that format. If you think all the non-grumpy youth will be flocking to hear their takes on these topics then you're far more deluded than the beans buyer looking for caviar.

No, doesn't appeal to me, so I don't listen.

Reading people confusing their lack of understanding of what is being offered with their wishes for a different programme grates though.

Wouldn't be a newstalk fan myself, but their slot is light years ahead of that drivel.

Wait for Shane Coleman and Ciara Kelly to start in February. Should make for a close contest. Podcast time.

No news on rte radio at 6pm. — pathetic. Afraid people will find out what’s going on?

A decluttering expert. Yet another one. Regular slot on this type of program.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,272 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Sometimes one has to wonder how stupid some folk are to take any heed of this rubbish.

They should get a 'decluttering expert' to declutter the stupid slots endemic in this Programme

I didn't listen to this yet, but I will later. Our own Nuala McGovern in charge of this very important topic, especially for women.

It is telling that there is no mention of Drivetime in the RTÉ article about the latest JNLR figures. I’m assuming the figure isn’t great.

I think you might be correct.🖕

I hear the Doomsday Dog (Barry Lenihan) in for Kuuluum today………are the schools out next week lads?

Surprisingly, it's a drop of just 4,000 from 222,000 to 218,000. Not bad given it's half an hour shorter than the previous incarnation.

Drivetime covering the serious global issues. They're talking about a Netflix "documentary" on America's Next Top Model. It's a 3 parter, they have some "journalist" on who loved it and watched it all in one sitting.

    Garbage! 🗑️

Niamh Maher from the Journal.ie. Everyone involved in that segment, give your heads a wobble.

Poor David McCullagh had already covered that this morning.

The timing 4 to 6 is daft imv as some of our politicians like to release statements around the time of the 6 o clock tv news …5 to 7 made a lot more sense also for drivers on their way from work listening in

i feel your pain Sham, however this ‘programme’ has lost all credibility for those who want to be informed

on current issues. Monaghan is trying to make RTE more Newstalk than Newstalk itself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,272 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Whwere do they dig up these gloamers, y’know, these so- called experts that infest this ‘programme’?

    Getting worse than Newstalk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,036 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Comfort food, specifically pies coming up next on Drivetime with some (nobody)chef. The important stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,272 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

    That’s Ms Monaghan for you,S .

We are not too far from reading results of the weekly meat raffles in the pubs.

But that’s the directions they want seem to want to go to.

Drivetime is now little better than a weekend magazine radio show. Watered down to almost complete irrelevance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,152 ✭✭✭ShamNNspace

Friggin influencers on whats supposed to be a serious news programme ....who in montrosia is Brandon related to I wonder 🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 24,509 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

It's for commuters. They have enough angst to deal with on the roads, without having never ending doom and gloom on the radio. Bit of light and shade is always the best mix.

I dropped it like it's hot after the recent reshuffle for the aforementioned reasons but I happened to be in the car today, hardcore tony Connolly Ukraine piece was good following an SNA bit. The hosts did sound a bit crestfallen at the serious stuff interfering with their fun tho I thought!
