    Yes.

The video Trump posted of Obama and Michelle comes to mind .

Well it's the truth to be honest.

People like dogs in general, a lot of people can give or take human beings outside of their family and friends. Really not that bizzare an opinion in spite of what people might think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,356 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

That is a completely different argument. You like the company of dogs better than most people. Plenty of people find it easier to have relationships with animals, boys, girls, computers, social media ,etc.

But that wasn't what he said. He said he would choose dogs over Muslims. Not people. Just a group of people based on his perceptions of them based on their religion.

On balance , what do you think prompted that tweet from Fine?

His genuine love of Dogs or his (clear and well established) utter hatred of Muslims?

Excuse the pun , but every dog in the street knows the answer to that question..

She didn't see the context of him making the statement.

    Piers Morgan said previously:

"There are a lot of white English people I would happily trade for a good weekly chicken tikka masala"

    Was that also racist?

You're going to some truly odd lengths to defend racism from an American politician. Why?

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

He said if he to choose between no more Irish people in the world or no more dogs in the world, outside of family and friends, he'd choose keeping the dogs. I love my two dogs but I'm sorry, that's completely fooked up imo.

I get dog lovers may prefer their dog to some other humans but it someone told me they prefer dogs in general to other humans it doesnt sound very healthy. And if they then say they prefer their dogs to English people I would definitely think they were a hard core Republican or just a mental patient.

He responded o a tweet from a Muslim who made a tweet against dog ownership and used her religion a reason for being against dog ownership.

Thats why he referenced her religion and why given the choice between the 2 he'd pick dogs.

I don't think saying people like dogs in general more than people in general is really going to great lengths, It's a fairly common belief.

Again nobody gives a toss about what she said - she is effectively a nobody.

What is important and seems to be lost upon you is that his response was completely demeaning towards an entire group of people across the world based solely on their religion.

Are you a public representative and telling the media that a particular group are beneath dogs?

The entire stance taken by Trump and his followers is based around division and separation making good use of fear and hatred to do so. Fine's comments align perfectly with that biased approach.
Maybe it is just coincidental that your perspective on this aligns with Fine's but either way, most people would view Fine's comments without any doubt as being racist - only someone who is ok with racism would be ok with those comments IMO.

    QED

That's not what's been said though. It's specifically a preference for animals over people from certain ethnic backgrounds. Racism doesn't get any more obvious without slurs.

Its a statement so lacking in empathy as to be psychotic.

The statement made by Randy Fine is just his latest attack on Muslims and is most definitely racist.

What businesses have avoided European markets? Give us some real-world examples. And I mean actual businesses, not black holes of venture funding with no commercial activity.

Because as I approach my 60th year on this planet, I cannot think of a single product or service that is not available to me in Europe even though it's available in the US (excluding drugs, solvants and various other substances that are banned on the grounds of unproven safety).

Sure, there are plenty of "experimental" ventures set up in the US because they can hire and fire at a moment's notice, and can exploit every waking minute of their employees' lives in a way that's simply not allowed in the EU ; but again, give us a few examples of such real-world businesses that have actively avoided EU markets because it's more hassle than the profit is worth.

Thats is not what happened. She said dogs were unclean and shouldn't be inside. And that aligned with how Muslims thought.

He then said that, given a choice between dogs and muslims he would choose dogs. And you are defending it! The mind boggles. You need to take a step back and look at the position you have taken.

You are excusing this based on what she said. But let's play along with that. Imagine she actually said what you have made yourself believe she said. Do you honestly believe that it is correct for anyone to come out and say they would choose an animal over an entire group of humans? Not the human that drives them mad from down the street. But every single muslim is treated as one singular grou,p and that group has less value to this man, and you, than a dog? That is your position? What you believe is that if you had to choose you kill humans to save animals?

And this is a direct result of the years of racism that Trump has been pushing, particularly against Muslims. Now it is considered acceptable, even reasonable, that a person would state that, given a choice, they would choose dogs.

Have you asked yourself why you would choose a dog over every single muslim? That you don't believe that there is even one muslim that you could accept over a dog?

Except thats not what you posted, you said "i like dogs more than all these specific groups of people defined by their beliefs, culture, nationality or race"

Which is vastly different to saying you prefer dogs to all or most people.

That is the problem with the US: people are now more concerned about the dog tweet and response. This feeds into the notion of culture wars. People are missing sight of the actually important issues: the Epstein files (where there was sexual depravity and market manipulation of the worst kind by very influential people), a tumbling economy, an increasingly hostile isolationist, foreign policy, tumbling economy (the crypto bros are taking a beating), spiralling joblessness, dismantling of democratic safeguards, excessive force by the body of people who are supposed to protect the people…

But that is the success of MAGA. Despite all of the above and the fact that the current actions of the administration deserve tomes and tomes to be written here and elsewhere, a whole day is spent talking about a tweet from somebody. A lady who is not even part of any administration. And we discuss the crass response of a Republican trying to prove to middle America that there is a class war happening and next, they will be coming after your pet Fluffy

He referenced her religion because he hates Muslims, I doubt he really gives two figs about dogs. This is a guy that said 'If you're not an Islamophobe, you're a fool'.

They got away with Epstein and the conversation has just entirely evaporated

Only for now. The Epstein files aren't going anywhere.

Where is the outrage? I feel like we are living through Don’t Look Up. People seem to shrug their shoulders and move on to the next story. I mean even NYT and Huff Post are barely covering the Epstein story now. And no questions about Maxwell, who resides in a comfortable jail.

I absolutely bloody guarantee you that Randy Fine would be singing a different tune if someone did make a similar comment about Jews.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,375 ✭✭✭✭ancapailldorcha

Topics in the news change all the time. Doesn't mean that any of this has gone away. I haven't heard someone mention climate change in a while but that's definitely still going on. I'm guessing that the files will take a very long time to trawl through as well.

The ultimate fact of the matter is that MAGA will implode at some point. That fact is inescapable.

That story is not going away. No ketchup bottles safe in the white house tonight.

What I mean by go away is that it seems that people have just accepted it and there are no consequences for those involved. Equally, the attempts to make it harder to vote are just met with a shrug of the shoulder

I think it's far too early to come to that conclusion. Historically, when autocrats have tried to suppress this sort of thing it tends to backfire and backfire spectacularly at that.

I am just so pessimistic about the future. The narrative on 2020 and the insurgency has been re-written. I fear that this is symptomatic of a deeper rot in America

Indeed - Remember that the Clintons are due before a House committee shortly as well.

I'd say Trump is cursing James Comer , just as he might be hoping that things might die down , the Clinton circus comes in and it'll be all anyone can talk about again.

Ironically, Comey reopening the investigation into Hilary Clinton's email server probably handed Trump the election in 2016.

Edit: Never mind. I assumed that "Comer" was a typo. I still like the irony though.
