It reads like a typical trump supporters statement 'but what about (insert random comparison that attempts to shift the conversation from what's actually relevant to something tangential)". I'm not claiming this poster is doing this, just possibly unfortunate that it reads the same.

Germany upping its defence budget isn't really enough, though. It's better than nothing in terms of Germany's own interests, but falls well short in terms of collective European security. Even so, Germany is only one general election away from doing an about-face in terms of foreign policy if AfD get in, and this is true for several countries around the continent, including France and the UK.

"In todays news, well, a lot of things happened today. But, unfortunately, we're not going to comment on any of it until Woodward and Bernstein do a deep dive into the circumstances, the motivations of those involved, whether or not they have any particular political affiliations, outstanding criminal records or maybe some kids that might be in the mix. But, stay tuned for regular updates over, emmm, maybe the next couple of weeks."

I expect (or hope) it was politeness/diplomacy. There is no point at all in shouting back and provoking more rows with the Trump admin. (hiding to nothing), but if/when they start trying to coerce us or perhaps bully and threaten Ukraine again Europeans will need to stand up and tell Trump and co. where to shove it IMO, regardless how painful that might be.

My thinking on really progressing a project of distancing from the US and reducing dependencies to protect yourself in future is that if (crossing a lot of fingers!) Trump/MAGA can be gotten out and the Democrats take over the presidency after him, that would (ironically) be the best time to power ahead with it!

    And like night follows day:

In September 2025, Paulson was accused by Republican Representative Thomas Massie of being named in Jeffrey Epstein's "black book."

I didn't see that to be honest. I just saw a debate about the imbalanced press coverage of an Irishman caught up in the chaos and suffering that Trump has created. On the Brendan O'Connor show they discussed all sides of his predicament in a balanced way. There was some lad on the show (academic I think) that said it's becoming increasingly difficult to have calm arguments about anything in our increasingly polarised world.

Not targeting you but sometimes I feel there are posters that are so paranoid about perceived Trump "supporters" (we are Irish mostly so hardly even qualify) infecting them with their madness that they just refuse to debate/understand the posts and just want them to stop posting. They only want to see (and thank) simple "Trump is the devil posts". There was less paranoia in Salem back when the witches were everywhere. Anyhoo...

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Have to respect "Randy Fine" for going into a political career at least. Seems his parents desperately wanted him to enter the porn industry giving the poor fecker a name like that.

Some names really indicate the child was fecked from birth.

It's an answer for a lot of the current whataboutery or both sides are the same arguments.

It's shocking how little fallout there's been in the US over the redacted release of some of the files compared to other countries.

Trump/MAGA/Vance/Miller/Bannon and many similar have no intention of elections with Democrats and likely not upcoming mid-terms.

Trump just tried to extort Canada

    They walked out of meeting

And now they have announced a safety audit on pipes supplying oil to a number of red states near border

Why these states would ever vote rep again is beyond stupid that's if they ever have the option

    Markets all red

Ok, let me try again. Define “blew up” ? I have yet to see anything in your response that undermines the reporting on the detention conditions.

That he had a warrant outstanding from 15 years ago is irrelevant. His detention has nothing to do with it.

That is the story. If you don’t care then why are you commenting ? You certainly seem to care about something.

I do care because my neighbors, friends (and potentially me) are at risk of disappearing into these black holes.

Canada should turn off their power supply to those northern states for a few days. See how it goes down with the MAGA cult.

Trump et al think the NASDAQ matters to everyone when it really only matters to them as that's where they make their money.

In the past, a rising NASDAQ usually meant an improving economy with jobs increasing and consumer spending improving etc. but that's not really what's happening at present. Most , if not all of the growth is coming from a small group of High tech companies all spending like crazy on AI. Companies are also cutting jobs to fund this spending hoping to see Productivity gains to offset.

My own employer for example, a very large IT Hardware manufacturer, has almost doubled profits in the last 5 years while reducing headcount by nearly 30% over the same period.

So, profits are up, share prices are up, but no one is hiring. And Trump and his billionaire cabinet and backers don't care.

This ‘on again , of again’; ‘ tug of war’; TACO when dealing with EU approach by the US reminds me of the saying Which is along these lines ‘ you may lose a number of battles but the important thing is to win the war. The war in this case is hopefully seen by the EU as stretching over a number of future US presidents rather than. Dealing in the context of the present one only. Whereas Trump sees everything in hours , days , weeks- remember his TWO WEEK TIMELINE

So, hopefully Europe can ‘ hold out’ and ‘bite its tune and ‘ play along ‘ with this ‘ BUDDING DICTATOR’ until his term is over

Anyone remember this story from December? Taken from the BBC...

US President Donald Trump said he has pardoned former Colorado elections clerk Tina Peters, who is serving a nine-year sentence for allowing unauthorised access to voting machines during the 2020 presidential election.

Peters was convicted last year on seven state charges, including three counts of attempting to influence a public servant and one count of conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation.

Presidential powers to pardon are widely understood to apply only to federal crimes - not those at a state level.

In a statement, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said Trump's pardon has no legal precedent and "will not hold up".

Well, when asked about it again on Air Force One, Trump demanded that Colorado Governor Polis pardon convicted Peters as a condition for attending the White House.

So, yet another example of how the Paedo Protector is not only seeking to step around the limitations of the pardon power.

I think it's important however to note that this isn't just about rewarding those who in the past did what he wanted, but also to send a signal to those who will do so for him in the future, for example in October of this year.

It's been reported on multiple occasions that Trump has an issue with the expected forecast for the mid terms, and complained how unfair it is that a sitting president usually loses out.

Over the last few months I've heard reporters and commentators pour cold water over assertions that the mid terms will remain unmolested, but you just know that Trump can't do that (cough). We have ICE being lined up, we have the signal to future workers to interfere and Trump will look after you.

I've noticed over the last month or so, they aren't as sure anymore.

Comment is in line whit what Obama was talking about in his recent interview. He referred to the current administration being very uncouth, rough, childish, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc with its language , very uncomming for the admin in question . A ‘ new low’ in his eyes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,231 ✭✭✭Field east

I assume that the conditions described have come from Culleton himself or have they been independantly verified?. Tell me even one prisoner/ person held in detention anyplace in the world that have not something very bad to report on re conditions.

Well done on deciding to ignore the context of what he posted.

He is responding in relation to the below post

    image.png

if you give people a choice between Muslims or Dogs most will pick Dogs

If you give people a choice between Jews and Dogs most will pick dogs

If you give people a choice between Christians and Dogs most will pick dogs.

Difference is other religions don't appear to have an issue with dogs whereas Muslims do

Well Jack, I'll repeat myself then as this clearly obvious point, which has gone completely unnoticed by you, also needed to be explained to Manic Moran. It is not appropriate to post something offensive towards a particular community. Would he have been happy had someone said the same thing but replaced Muslim with Jew?

I had seen that but regardless of the views of one person, it didn't warrant a racist response from the Congressman who is meant to represent everyone regardless of religion. But that is how the current administration works, I guess.

If a jewish person said that Judaism is coming and dogs were unclean and they dont have a place in society as indoor pets then I'd be perfectly fine with him saying he'd choose dogs over jews.

Nobody should be representing people who want dogs banned as indoor pets because it doesn't agree with their religion, it's an insane position to hold.

Is she actually an adviser to Mayor Mamdani? As in a paid member of his staff?
Or an adviser in the same way that I'm an adviser to Arne Slot at Liverpool?

Just corrected my post now.She was part of some protest groups that supported him but isn't actually an adviser.

Point stands that what she said was lunacy and should be called out.
