Comfortable win for Drogheda there. Thought Waterford were very poor. Amond barely had a kick, Noonan uninvolved, Lonergan trying too hard.

O'Brien and Oluwa good for Drogs.

Can we end the season now please?

Once we went two up, it was just a case of seeing the game out even if there was 80 minutes to go. We were happy to let Waterford have the ball and I can't remember Dennison making a save.

O'Brien looks very decent and I thought Brandon Kavanagh was excellent.

Fair play to the Waterford fans who turned up in numbers and made lots of noise.

Ah here lads the referee rode Dundalk tonight in Derry. That penalty at the end was mad. If a penalty is the norm for that bit of holding then we'll see an awful lot of penalties for the entire league campaign BUT it won't be the norm.

He had a fistful of jersey for almost 10 seconds on the slomo replay. Absolutely needless but a stonewall penalty.

Both sides were holding as usually happens. He could as easily given a freekick to Dundalk. He gave us absolutely nothing.

Akinyemi doesn't do anything other than jump for the ball.

Did you see the stone wall penalty we didnt get in the 1st half when one of your defenders nearly broke Clarkes back as he went through him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,070 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Well he gave us nothing, so that makes both of us. He was poor overall.

As for our late penalty, having watched it back on YouTube, it would have been hard for the ref not to give it. Yes many will argue about shirt pulling goes on all the time, but he must have held the shirt for nearly 5sec right in front of the ref. Crazy stuff.

Brian Maher out for up to 6 weeks. Massive blow for us.

Young no2 looks iffy, and this next period without Maher might define how we do this season.

How has it worked that Derry have their first four games at home ,I know it all equ a ls out but its seems fairly strange unless it is or was due to postponement or something .

Ground is being worked on later in the season so they are front loading home games now and playing some games in the Gaa ground during works.

I'm sure NIMAN will confirm but I think the Brandywell will be unavailable for a spell while a new pitch is being laid.

Work being done on Oriel meant last nights game was switched. Derry originally had 3 of first 4 at home. All clubs have similar runs throughout the season, theirs just happens to be at the start. When the reverse game is played in April it’ll be 3 home games in a row for Dundalk, 4 in 5. Derry will have 4 away games in a row (5 in 6, 6 in 8)

Not about front loading as they’ll play games in the GAA ground while work is being done in the Brandywell in the normal rotation (indeed they have Pats and Shels in the space of 4 days in the GAA ground)

Dundalk's brilliant new state of the art pitch will be on full view next Friday night for the Louth derby.

Winter Olympics Speed skating final looks like it's taking place in The Bradywell.

sligo were shocking bad, bullied all over the pitch , one of the worst performances I have seen in a long time , we look worse than last year,

They were decent enough against Derry. Poor tonight alright.

We absolutely dominated Sligo tonight, 0-4 did not flatter Bohs. The conditions were absolutely brutal, and both teams tried to keep it on the deck, but it only worked for one of them. It's the most dominant I've seen Bohs for a while, certainly in the Reynolds era.

Just waiting for the feeling to come back into my fingers and toes.

Theyn looked good enough against Derry and were unlucky not to get a point. Far too early yet to make judgements.

we played well for 45 mins against Derry, I hope tonight was a one off because otherwise it will be a long season

My early hot take is that Russell has made similar mistakes in recruitment to the ones made in 2023. He focused on signing ballers with zero physicality again.

Need another CB, a proper replacement for Doyle-Hayes/McManus and another forward option. But most importantly we need 11 lads on the pitch trying because that was absolutely pathetic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,791 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

on one hand sorry Sligo fans but on the other good. Galway need a dysfunctional side or two to keep themselves up. Williams looked good as did Watt and Parker but the big danger is if Swansea take them back mid-season we'd be massively left in the lurch. And theres no way Lomboto is gunna provide goals to get us to safety so its defence first this year.

Poor alright. You would worry for Sligo, but then again its very early and they have pulled themselves out of trouble in past seasons. Pitch wasn't good last night (and yeah, same for both teams I know) which can't help if you're trying to pass the ball neatly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,818 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

This is JR's fourth February managing at the Showgrounds and every year he insists on starting the season playing his passing style of football on a pitch completely unsuitable for it. Everyone knows it's not going to work but he's incapable of change.

Our tactics were bizarre and didn't change throughout making it even more bizarre.

Anyone know if Cian Bargary has re-signed with Cobh Ramblers for the 2026 season or if he is playing for anyone this season! I can't get any answer from the Cobh club.
