That could be true but RTÉ would rely on these figures for news reports, are they going to dispute that the figures are incorrect from the CSO?

Could you get more in 2020 or similar in 2020 compared to 2008 and now?

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

My father had a dispute with the CSO and their official inflation figures in the 90s. He was trying to get the figures from the 70s. He eventually got talking to one of their Actuaries, who agreed with him that they did not make sense!

Energy and food prices are stripped out of inflation measurement, because they are too volatile. Sure nobody uses any of this.

    Go back to school.

Core inflation tracks how prices are rising across the economy, leaving out food and energy, since the prices of those items tend to swing unpredictably. It is commonly calculated using the consumer price index (CPI)

Yes is what I used for my table.

I used January for each year comparing 2008 prices e.g. Jan 2008 v Jan 2025

Now do a table on the inflation adjusted wages of Pat Kenny, Tubridy et al from 2008.

There is nothing really different between KB4 and D4BES.

He suggests that they all do a great job and probably could all get double what they are on in RTÉ.

    My suggestion go.

I am sure Daithi O'Se would be picked up by some local station for double what he's on in RTÉ.

Look at poor auld Ray D'Arcy he's not on the air and looks like he won't be back on the air anytime soon.

Were one or two people treated unfairly? In my view, I think they were at the time, yeah. I don't want to go into who. They were doing the very best they could, and they didn't do anything wrong, really.

If that's your excuse "they didn't do anything wrong… really" then they did something wrong.

and when your all on the pigs back you should be the very best and your best should be exceptional.

Whatever they're on in RTE must be strong stuff 😀

I see Ryan on the cover of the RTE guide in a shop this week and the last few weeks have been a drip feed of what a hard time he had since he was caught lying about his salary. It’d bring a tear to a glass eye.
Bugger off Ryan. You robbed a living for 20 years and made millions. Now you want us to forgive you and pay you again and put you back in RTE? And the best you can do is say ‘my bad’. Bertie had less neck than this guy.

Made up... like the sham events RTE and Tubridy connived at so they could lie about his salary?

'I don’t know how Ryan can face the public when he’s been pretending something all this time.

‘He said he wouldn’t be found wanting when it came to taking the pay cuts we all had to endure.

‘Well, that was a big lie.’

I assume you’re Ryan or one of his fan boys. Part Ryan’s campaign to get back on RTE and pretend what happened, didn’t. or at least not how we remember it, despite the facts.

Ryan wasn’t honest about what he was getting paid. Another word for being dishonest is lying.

What aren’t you getting about this? Did I really need to explain that to you?

"Ryan wasn’t honest about what he was getting paid. Another word for being dishonest is lying."

When was Tubridy 'dishonest' about what he was being paid by RTE?

He's mad to get back to being the dainty little Prince of his beloved Oireland.

Take him back, but offer him a 1/10th of what he couldn't live up to in the UK (or elsewhere).

Instead of giving this broadcasting sloth of a company more money, why can we not opt out with the likes of sky or virgin and omit having rte in your home altogether along with the thrash station tv3 ? thus reducing your bill ?

Buy a smart TV that doesn't have a satellite or terrestrial turner. Though they will change the law surrounding that.

I suspect that any new gov will just start to fund from the exchequer, in a few years time. So you will be paying them anyway.

He lied by saying he took a pay cut when in fact he didn't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,677 ✭✭✭Cyclingtourist

"Speaking at the 2012 autumn schedule launch the following year, he told reporters: “I'll be taking a pay cut of 30% and beyond."

RTÉ subsequently published information which showed he had indeed taken a pay cut of more than 30% in 2013. And there is no suggestion of any wrongdoing on Mr Tubridy's part."

What pay cuts did Ryan Tubridy take, and when?

He announced he was taking a 10% pay cut in March 2009 but this is hard to confirm as he began presenting the LLS later that year which would have increased his salary.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,140 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

    Tubridy lied. And beyond?

Nope. Cos the beyond involved sham events to funnel cash to Tubridy outside of proper oversight.

Then he lied by omission as he knew the figures being published for several years were wrong.

The publication of the RTE top earners is a major newa story. The idea Tubridy didnt know his were under declared is another lie.

    Tubridy lied.

You still haven’t told me when. Just repeating an accusation doesn’t make it true.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,140 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Nope. I didnt just repeat the accusation.

Ive explained it to you twice on the thread, as have other posters. The concept of a lie of omission is well established so dont pretend otherwise.

He lied to his colleagues with guff about 'not being found wanting' when it came to pay cuts.

He lied to his colleagues, taxpayers and Oireachtas allowing his earnings to be falsely declared for years - a declaration required of RTE top earners.

He was a current affairs commentator, so of course he would have been aware of the publication of his earnings and that they were under declared.

He lied and was found out. Short sighted greed which rightly cost him his cushy number.

It's not that they lie per se, its that they are so arrogant about their wages. They truly have self-believe. That they are worth it. As you could see from all of the interviews by KB4, CB and Tubs, over the last 2 weeks or so.

When asked if he was paid too much, Tubridy responded: “I am paid what is negotiated for me. In that case, they deem it fit to pay me that and that is what happens.”

One question that hasn't been asked, did all multi-year contracts contain a "Loyalty Fee", we know that Pat Kenny exited with a Loyalty fee, are we going to see in 2025 annual report a "Loyalty Fee" for Claire Byrne? Had everything worked out in 2019 Tubs would have been paid 665K, but he renegotiated his fees in the following contract, but was was the loyalty fee at the end of that contract?

RTÉ held off years of payments to their top stars simply to spread out the end of contract "loyalty fees". Who came up with that idea? And why did their top stars agree to it?

"It's not that they lie per se, its that they are so arrogant about their wages. They truly have self-believe. That they are worth it."

He was a free agent using NK to negotiate his terms of employment. If RTE were willing to pay him these amounts then that was what he was 'worth' to RTE. That's the reality although you may view it as arrogance.

You could use the analogy of a normal salaried person delegating the negotiation of their salary to a union, in the final analysis what's agreed is what they're worth as an employee.

You seem to acknowledge he didn't lie. Any lying that occurred was RTE's doing who were desperate to preserve the fiction that Tubridy was being paid under the magical 500K. The main player in this concealment appears to have been the then DG of RTE Dee Forbes who dodged an Oireachtas committee appearance and hasn't reappeared since.
