28.7 mm up to the 10pm update for Dublin Airport.

Has anyone else noticed that the met.ie rainfall radar doesn’t appear to be reflecting the current rainfall intensity this week? When using it earlier in the week, between one 5 minute cycle and the next, the intensity across the country appeared to drop by half and seems to have stayed that way. No actual data to back up my thoughts, there just seems to be a disconnect.

Enjoy it while you can Meteorite, if the ECM accum. is anything to go by, you'll get your fill over the next two weeks!😅

There Was a notice on the Met Éireann website about the Dublin Airport radar been out of service

The airport must have missed all the really heavy rain between 9-10pm, only 1.5mm recorded yet it was absolutely belting down where I am just 5km away

The Dublin radar is offline all day so there must be a problem. I mentioned the same this morning, I've noticed a few times this week it shows no rain at all over Dublin yet in reality it was pouring down, even over the past couple of hours it's been very heavy here yet the radar barely shows moderate rain

Am I way off or should there have been a yellow warning for midlands/east today?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,418 ✭✭✭Dr_Colossus

Surprised there wasn't. Just after cycling home from D1 to D15 and serious water on the roads, nearly as bad as the orange warning with the storm a couple of weeks ago. Got soaked this morning and again this evening and don't think there was a dry spell all day. The large ditch/drain in front of Castleknock hotel is full and up to road level which I haven't seen before.

The rain that is falling in north Dublin the last few hours is fairly shocking. Intense rainfall for hours now, a lot of localised flooding.

Indeed John.Icy! Just 25mm for the month so far and been feeling fairly mild, even started wearing short sleeved shirts but looks like back to the long sleeves again for a couple of days anyway. Low pressure after Low pressure on the way and windy at times too .

Temperatures dropping away down , now at 5.5C here by the coast outside Tralee. Signs of sleet and wet snow on the Radar.

Looking at some of the river water levels around me in north Dublin - they are skyrocketing and fast approaching the levels seen on 27th January when fairly substantial flooding occured.

Its been thoroughly sh1t lately. Must be using Sputnik or one of the early satellites. And a ZX81 to graph it.

I'm maybe 3km south of the airport and it definitely hasn't been as bad as the 7-9ish pm period of late. Some heavier bursts but those two hours were brutal.

3.6mm in the last update, so breached the 30 mm yellow criteria mark now.

Gerry must have switched it off. He forecasted this week to have less rainfall from after Tuesday and any rain that would fall will have less intensity .

The rain over Dublin, Meath is relentless. Seems to be stuck in a swirling loop going nowhere.

January 1948 was the wettest January on record in Dublin. It had 171.4mm at the airport, 33.7mm more than January 2026. But February 1948 was much drier. February 2026 is continuing wet and 2026* has overtaken 1948 as the wettest start to the year on record here.

*2026 total is provisional as of 12th February 2300 UTC.

For those curious, spring 1948 was the sunniest spring on record until 2020 and subsequently 2025. However, summer 1948 was a stinker for the most part being mostly cool and wet with one intense heat spike at the end of July.

and so much rain to come between now and end of February, rain still hammering away here in Meath, there is just water everywhere. February 2026 could overtake January 2026 in places.

The flood at the entrance to my garage is now just over an inch deep and ponds in the garden.

Is 'stinker' an antiquated meteorological phrase? 😁

It deserves to be taken up with some gusto. Hoping the stenchy stinker vibes end in Spring for 2026!!

I've never seen water accumulate in my garden as much as tonight. Literally two inches between the house and back shed. It's been dodgy for a month but tonight

I remember the term 'blowing like stink' being used, more a nautical term perhaps.

Yip saw this on radar forecast yesterday or day before (BBC graphics maybe) & said to the household Thursday it not gonna stop as it comes back on self and a swirling loop.

Awful day and brutall night. Meath.

This is possibly the worst rain we've had all winter, there will be lots of flooding by the morning. Rain is due for another 10 hours or so.

I've seen plenty of yellow and orange warnings for rain with less than tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,476 ✭✭✭Kutebride

    Indeed.

Not a word about the intense rainfall pivoting in the central counties this evening and what looks like all night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,945 ✭✭✭snowgal

yes the rain is just ridiculous and absolutely horrible at this stage, near Trim here.. it’s a disgusting night here, wind picked up, temp dropping and rain belting! My phone showing snow from 6am to 10 in the morning!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,024 ✭✭✭alentejo

Still raining in Dublin. We are getting a 24 rain reprieve from lunchtime Friday to lunchtime Saturday by the sounds of things with more rain Saturday night.

While February is the shortest month, this February feels like it's dragging on and we are not even halfway through the month. The rain is certainly relentless.

Just into work and plenty of floods on the roads here in Stepaside/Dundrum area. i'm guessing it rained all night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,373 ✭✭✭pconn062

Louth too, I luckily live near the coast in an area not prone to flooding but even the small rivers around here are starting to get close to busting banks.

Yellow rain warning in Dublin now i believe

Seems Met Éireann dropped the ball a bit, has been raining non stop in D5/3 since 3pm yesterday, particularly heavy from 8-11pm
