The only people not offended are racists.

Id imagine there's a lot of ManU players past and present who could explain the difference between immigration and imperial colonialism. Id love to see Roy Keane explain it to him.

Classic Non-Apology apology there by Ratcliffe.

In an actual apology you say you're sorry for your actions, not for other people's reactions.

It's basically the performance of an apology without the sentiment behind one. A box-ticking exercise. Entirely worthless.

What annoys me is that nobody is ever called out on this nonsense.

Too many in England think British imperial rule civilized the world etc...

To us in Ireland it's known as the Bertie Ahern apology.

The question I would like Radcliffe to answer is: "who told you those figures"? I mean obviously it was Farage, but then the question goes to him: "where did you get those figures from?". And if he was honest he'd say "I made them up in order to advance my racist agenda", but he's a lying, traitorous shitcunt, so he won't.

I note his non-apology today didn't withdraw the inaccurate population figures he gave. I was in having coffee somewhere today and they had Sky News on an unending loop about it, replaying the interview including the false '12 million extra' bit.

I have little doubt this was instigated by Farage in relation to the Gorton and Denton byelection. Let's hope it explodes in all their faces. I know footballers are a notoriously self-centred bunch but you'd have to think even some of them would have to seriously affronted by this.

Simon Jordan on TalkSport radio spoke about Ratcliffes comments.

Went full Robert Jenrick with it and used the "many people could say, I'm not saying it, but many people could" line to say Macabi Tel Aviv fans being banned from going to the match against Aston Villa was a form of colonization.

Lying about what happened, to spread a provocative racist message. Something we see more and more these days.

Farage/Tommy Robinson/Julia Hartley Brewer are loving this. They're message is being supercharged by people who have the ear amongst a large portion of the population.

Football fans in the UK tend 'not' to be racist. The likes of Man Utd and Liverpool have strong working class roots and to be left leaning politically - you'd be unlikely to find a big load of Farage / Reform supporters at your average game complaining about there being too many immigrants and ethnic minorities in the country.

The Americans are far worse. Look at the difficulty they have in dealing with just two other countries in CUSMA. There’s now a lot of talk stateside about separate deals with Canada and Mexico. Imagine if they were in the EU! The notion of shared global responsibility for climate change, let alone that those nations who have put most of the warming gases up there having the most responsibility for sorting out matters, simply wrecks their brains. Fundamentally, the US just can’t play well with the other kids.

If a vacancy does arise in 10 Downing Street, I think Mr. Burnham was rather fortunate to find himself in charge of a resurgent city but give me lucky politicians who have done well over those I actively dislike such as Rayner and Streeting. Which is assuming he becomes eligible.

Proscription was a stupid decision that damaged Cooper and Starmer to achieve… what exactly?

Guarantee they dig down and appeal.

    to achieve… what exactly?

    to protect zionism

It's the running theme of this government. Endure all of the pain and gain no political benefit.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

I don't think it achieved that even. Every vicar and retiree and teenager arrested for wearing a tshirt, or a tshirt with Morph on it, caused more ridicule.

Governments are never going to get political benefit acting on behalf of a foreign terrorist state

I imagine it was more to do with trying to protect the Defence Industry and military infrastructure in a time of war on the European continent.

I think the decision was wrong and politically stupid though I also think the judicial judgement seems questionable. In particular the below seems odd to me - it either meets the threshold of terrorism or it doesn't.

"The judges said that while “a very small number” of Palestine Action’s activities met the legal test for acts of terrorism, the standard criminal law could be used to confront the group."

Not everything has to be some Zionist conspiracy. The government overreached because they didn't want their defence industry being attacked during an incredibly turbulent time conflict on the continent.

    Unforeseen consequences.

They were hoping to frighten people into not protesting at all by effectively saying that they would be considered "terrorists". It just didn't work out as they had hoped.

In the end Starmer's Labour just ended up looking terrible as a result. Arresting OAP's for holding up a sign was never going to go down well with the vast majority of people.

I don't think the average protestor who wasn't breaking people's spines or breaking into RAF bases was ever at risk of being considered a terrorist.

Not everything has to be some Zionist conspiracy.

Not everything is. But the Zionist movement is part of the worlds most powerful political lobby. That is a fact.

And many within the UK political environment, and this government in particular are members of a group advocating for Israel including the Zionist ideals associated with that country. That is also a fact.

In the last couple of days, ministers in France and Germany have called for the resignation of UN Rapporteur for Palestine, Francesca Albanese to resign because of something she is reputed to have said, but that she didn't say. The action of these ministers is heavily influenced by lobbyists within their own countries I expect. Albanese, an absolute hero, is already under sanctions from the US because she has had the audacity to demand fairness for Palestinians. That is also a fact. As too are some members of the ICC for attempting to hold to account the perpetrators of a genocide. Another fact.

This ruling is the appropriate outcome for what was an excessive overstep by Cooper. Only she knows for sure why she acted as she did and whether a conspiracy was involved, but the above facts are relevant in the context of the discussion.

And Mahmood has said they'll appeal. More damaging their already damaged reputation for absolutely no benefit.

This is the least PR capable UK government ever, I suspect. Its actually worse than the Johnson Cummings era now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,375 ✭✭✭✭ancapailldorcha

    Good point.

Pre-partygate, the Johnson government had the wind in its sails until lockdown. At least when they were dealing with the parties, there was a problem, albeit one they created entirely by themselves.

I think the second the images of frail elderly people being arrested for holding Palestine flags hit social media there should have been an immediate u-turn and apologies. The only winners from any of this are Farage and the Israel lobby.

Talk of an appeal today is to simply avoid having to admit it was a ludicrous overstep in the first place.

They will be under pressure from some quarters to appeal, but I'd very surprised if todays decision was overturned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75,483 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Enforcement of the decision today has been stayed pending appeal, so they will have a defined time to **** or get off the pot on that.

My guess is it being a fine distinction by members of PA vs. the purpose of the group as a whole. The legal test seems to be a very low bar and the judge in the absence of comparable case law has made the precedence of throwing it out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,289 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

Assuming the appeal fails and the court upholds the decision that the proscription of PA was unlawful. It means the UK govt unlawfully arrested and besmirched thousands of people… all at the behest of the zionist lobby.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,629 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

They will surely lose the appeal. Proscribing a 'direct action' group as terrorists was a massive overreaction. PA made it quite clear that their intention was to disrupt entities linked to the Israeli war machine in Gaza, but not to injure people in any way.
