NK are like a AAA Games Publisher Electronic Arts or EPIC in that they will be considering their next move in a corporate mindset nothing to do with the actual personality's audience.

The effort NK is putting into flooding the zone for RT is directly proportional to how much NK needs RT to succeed.

Back in 2011 RT was on around 800K, agent fee of 10-12% would have put nearly 100K in NK pocket. Now RT was never going to regain that lofty high, but as a regular income RT was vital to NK as a guaranteed revenue stream.

I don't imagine there's many on NK books that can deliver a as regular income stream as RT had been up to the Barter fiasco, but that dependency on NK behalf may be partly the reason why he didn't advise RT to step out of the limelight and simply lie low. NK might not have been able to afford it!

This whole flood the zone of the last weeks seems like a last ditch attempt by NK to get a client fee off the national broadcaster.

I think they'll continue to throw mud at the wall, in the hope that some of it sticks. Even though there's a real bang of yesterday's man off Tubridy, time has a funny way of papering over the cracks. There may not be room for him on RTE right now but who knows what the future holds? Current management won't be there forever and he could get lucky with whoever comes in next. Of course, it could go the other way but them's the breaks as they say.

The Little Corporal is pulling out all the stops to get RT back on the Rte stage.

There's nothing in it for NK. RTE does not negotiate with agents. NK will just have to hope that PK is still on a good wedge from Newstalk.

He could have sorted it all out before his lls stint ended

Honestly, after the two weeks they have had. Not much. He has been everywhere and no one has really missed him.

The only think left is a health scare or near death experience. I cannot see anything else giving him the wall to wall coverage he has had the last few weeks.

His best bet now is live a smaller life. Maybe go back to UCD, look at a vanity self funded PhD. Maybe come back as an "academic" in a decade.

Could see him embarrassing himself further by entering politics. Dun Laoighre/Rathdown have form for electing vacuous twats, maybe he'll try take on Carroll McNeill.

Nothing less than the presidency would be in his sights

Not unlikely given his desperation at the moment.

I can't really see him listening to Mrs O'Shea complain about the potholes on her street at his weekly clinic. As @GSF said above, Tubs would only go in at the top. I mean, his name often came up as a potential presidential candidate for FF down the line, but I suspect that ship has now sailed. We saw in the election last year how every bit of possible dirt was dug up on the candidates - Tubs isn't going to want to reminded of the payments scandal in 2032.

Not a chance is he running weekly clinics.

On top of that who ever runs against him will have a mountain of stuff to throw at him. Might get some of the blue rinse brigade to vote for him. He would also have to run as an independant.

Can't imagine any of the cumans would be happy with him being parachuted in.

The NK/RT juggernaut's full frontal assault on Irish media the last 2 weeks ends up looking more like a clapped out clown car with Laurel and Hardy at the wheel.

When will Ryan realise NK's not doing the job right for him anymore and Noel realise that Tubs hasn't the "pull" he thought he had?

Ryan's popularity was because the TV show he presented is an institution and the radio time slot he was given was "cowshed radio". Those listeners don't turn the dial.

The one show he did on 2fm in the morning back in the early 2000's was kinda good…but he then sold himself as "a young fogie" (his words) in order to move up the ladder to Radio 1.

Cushy slots on a national broadcaster. Play it bland, #bekind, feign interest, throw some toys around once a year..."We're top of the world Noel! €700k, sure why not? Everyone likes me!". Unfortunately for NK and Ryan it wasn't Ryan's "audience". It's RTE's audience.

They don't need him. And he's nothing without them.

Pat Kenny summed him up well back in the day…"he's a young man in a big hurry".

Well he's not young anymore and he probably wasn't expecting to still be in a hurry at this stage of his life.

He became irrelevant to his RTE listener fan base as soon as he wasn't on RTE anymore.

Not a chance. I am still annoyed I voted for George Lee, when he packed it in after a few months. To think I wasted a vote on a RTE personality, thinking they would make a good sensible politician.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,727 ✭✭✭Bellbottoms

Same issue with George he expected to made minister for Finance. Instead he was being asked about removing dog shite in clinics and if he could speed up passport applications

Came across this and I am wondering is that Tubs dance on the intro of Jo-Maxi?

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

It'll never happen, however many stops are pulled out.

I have an iPhone cable I could sell him if he wants that.

The guy with letter "I" on his back? It does certainly look a bit like him.

Timeline kinda checks out, he'd have been around 15 back then.

Just saw the list on reddit of the 40+ stories irish media have published about tubs in the last 2 weeks, terry prone and the communications clinic must be working their little socks off for him trying to get him back on irish air.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,648 ✭✭✭its_steve116

Virgin Media, Today FM or Newstalk would be a good shout.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,497 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

None of them would be good, hes been shown up to be the fart in the wind everyone outside RTE knew him to be after scampering back from the uk in abject failure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,641 ✭✭✭Bogey Lowenstein
That must be Nigel with the brie...

It is the big push, Noel and Ryan are going over the top and charging the machine-gun nest!

What happens if this offensive fails though? Is there a Plan-B? Back to the UK? Try to break America, maybe? NKM must have called in all their favours to Irish media by now surely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,497 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

Well NT have just started their new schedule so despite Terry and CCs deep claws in there i doubt there's much available especially after they likely expended so much capital getting Anton the morning slot.

Honestly don't know if there's a slot or even the money available that his ego demands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 16,107 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

Quite an amazing sight to see the list of that many stories floated in the media over the last week. Talk about a PR blitz.

And to people who say he'd never come back to RTE. Get real! He's not even being coy about it: it's stated in the headlines of multiple articles that he wouldn't "rule out" coming back, or "wouldn't burn his bridges"... Come on, he absolutely would jump at the chance to work for RTE again, couldn't be more blatant.

Personally, I think he'll be back in some capacity in a couple of years... Depends how long KB stays in charge.

Having said that - I do wonder about the level of… dedication.... it would take to keep an actual spreadsheet of all of RT's media mentions and appearances...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,648 ✭✭✭its_steve116

I think the damage is done regarding RTÉ. I honestly would be very surprised if he did return. Tubs has explicitly said RTÉ is in his rear-view mirror so I have no idea why he is saying he "wouldn't rule it out" now.

Never underestimate the amount of back slapping and inside favours for people inside that bubble. They never step outside it so they'll keep on pushing their fellow 'talent' until mega pension time. The favours never end when the pool is full of the very same people since the 80s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 16,107 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

You have repeatedly said that it won't happen. Though to be fair your message has changed from absolute cast-iron certainty to "be very surprised if it did happen"!

I would bet actual hard cash with you that Tubridy will return to RTE within the next two years.

I would bet actual hard cash with you that Ian Dempsey will return to RTÉ before Tubs.
