    paging @JupiterKid

the cost of the work, fieldwork, printing the maps, was "a huge challenge," and that it would be "a few years" before the cost would be recouped through sales. “The decline in the number of tourists using maps is a factor due to the likes of Google Street Map, Apple Maps, and Open Street Map on phones” https://tuairisc.ie/ni-dheanfar-athchlo-ar-learscaileanna-chorca-dhuibhne-mar-gheall-ar-dhiol-iseal/

The military bases in Cyprus are British Sovereign Territories, part of the UK. With some Cypriot enclaves in Dhekelia. The road connecting Ayios (Agios) Nikolaos to the main Dhekelia base is UK sovereign territory.

Guantanamo Naval Base is 116 square kilometres in area.

AI Overview. Guantanamo Bay Naval Base operates under a unique legal status where the United States exercises exclusive jurisdiction and control, while Cuba retains ultimate sovereignty. Established via a 1903 lease, the U.S. treats the base as being outside its immediate domestic territory to detain individuals without full constitutional protections. It is a "legal black hole," though Supreme Court rulings (e.g., Boumediene v. Bush) have allowed detainees limited rights to challenge their detention.

France has a relatively large amount of land in South America - French Guiana - as well as the various islands.

For the 99%s, the UK has its tiny islands around the place, Spain has the Canaries and two cities on the Moroccan coast, Portugal is presumably the Azures. Guessing some Norwegian and Greek islands are in theory in Asia, so Italy is the hardest one to figure out.

^^ Aye. And France's longest part of land border is with Brazil, by the way. :-)

Greenmark counts as Denmark and is so large that Denmark proper only accounts to a small percentage of the Kingdom's land.

That 1% missing on Norway refers to uninhabited islands just beyond Antarctica. They are not part of the Antarctic Treaty zone and count as sovereign Norwegian territory.

Irish household debt/GDP is not there as our GDP is inflated. But even adjusted, it would be somewhere around Austria and far short of those feckless Swiss.

Looks like Estonia has a similar percentage of ethnic Russians though?

The China-Mongolia border at 4630km is longer than the China-Russia border at 4209km. Not obvious. The western China-Russia border is 55km long where no crossing points exist.

    Crustal magnetic anomalies on Mars

    Mars_Crustal_Magnetism_MGS.png

Although Mars has no current magnetic field, the discovery of these magnetic anomalies in the ancient rocks of the Southern Highlands indicates that the planet had at least a partial magnetic field in its early years.
