Any word on any other masters races? I know towards end of 2025 season they ran a few that seemed to go well, with a bit of luck there be a few more throughout this year.

Presume it is the same course as last years Masters race in Waterford.

I'd have the M40's behind for when I get dropped!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 26,774 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

Isn't that the truth, the race in Waterford last year the M50s were never caught IIRC and took time out of a fairly fast M40 group.

There was a couple who were ineligible last year but have since downgraded to C2 which means the M50 group will be harder.

That bunch were given 6 mins plus and moto pacing wouldn’t have caught them. The actual structure of the masters races needs tweaking this year as an M40 C3 vs M40 C2 is a huge gap.

There was nothing simple about that race last year! There was no closing the gap.there was some confusion also re one race or twoo

Best of luck to everyone preparing for the season ahead. Weather a bit ropey at present bot lots of good weather up to now so lots with big miles in I'd say.

Ras recce trip again last week with full details end of the month

And was supposed to be handicapped within age groups as well. First running of these races so teething problems can be expected, but there was enough C2 M40's that the C3's could've been given a bit of start.

I always thought last year was a handicap M40 chasing M50 chasing Women, but that while there was recognition of the placing for each group, CI points were for first riders across the line i.e. first M40 meant nothing if you never made the catch from a points point of view. Yhe only real error was the gap given and that is probably more due to a wider variety of riders than the Comms were used too. It is why Club Leagues tend to get handicaps better timed than open races.

I'd have thought an easier option logistically might be a tighter handicap, although Commisaires do not always like that. C3 M50, 1 minute chased by C3 M40, 1 minute chased by C2 M50 followed by C2 M40 1 minute later. 3 minutes end to end which will get tighter as the race goes on, you can then extend those gaps based on bigger groups e.g. make the M50 to M40 C3 gap 2 minutes if a crowd of 40 M40 C3s show up. Easier on marshals and organisers, less lead cars. If ridden properly, no one should be shelled for a lap, and those that are can at least catch the next passing group for an extra lap hard training.

Gives the C3s motivation to move, and gives the M40s and M50s of either group a fair crack of the whip. Of course, as there will ever be, it will fall apart almost instantly as the same lads as always won't work in C3 and will scupper their own best hope of placing.

Anyone know the timetable for Mondello this year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 413 ✭✭this.lad

If I had 5 watts for every time a c3 m40 told me to go to the front cos I was C2 id have ridden them all off my wheel!

In the Dungarvan race i thought we only had to worry about the 3 away from outlr own group. In fairness nobody got their knickers in a knot. It was a good day out and a good atmosphere in general. Hopefully ill get to more of them this year.

I had a hard year last year once they started getting us away with the C1 group. Seriously considered looking to go back to c3.

Is there anywhere which shows what races are National grade?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,327 ✭✭✭✭dahat

No information on these or the new points structure has been published yet.

The Cotter Cup stage race in Clare, has anyone got details on this?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 26,774 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

Hooray, most of the new UCI rule changes will only be applied at UCI level events, so basically for us, only national championships.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,327 ✭✭✭✭dahat

Is there changes to the points structure this season ? Namely the National Grade races.

Race numbers arrived today, winter is nearly over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,327 ✭✭✭✭dahat

At a similar time last year rider registrations in C1 & C2 are significantly down.

Around 60 less in C1 and over 100 down in C2, C3 registrations are big as always.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭hollowlands

I'm one of those unregistered. Couldn't do anything for a full month because of some sort of virus. Haven't done an outdoor cycle since mid December. I'd need a C4 category

Opening weekend of the season will tell the real tale of what racing numbers will be like for the season. Always gives a fair indication of what things are going to look like.Bad or good numbers the precedent will be set.

Know at least 3 lads who got regraded to C3 from C2. Should be competitive there at least
