The Shannon story is one the authorities will not want to touch with a barge pole. I see the following anodyne statement in a headline from the Indo:

The Department of Transport said private aircraft ‘do not require prior authorisation’ to land in Irish airports

It may have been a private aircraft but the purpose of its flight cannot be considered a typical one for such aircraft. Could any businessperson shackle people and bring them through Shannon on their jet?

On the basis of the thugs of McCabe tel-aviv screaming their racist violent chants at football matches and in the immediate locality, I think Pep has a very fair point.

"Guardiola received both praise and criticism for his passionate words, with Jewish community leaders advising the Spaniard to "focus on football" and "be more careful in his future language"."

Maybe it would be fair to ask those community leaders to focus on their communities and keep their politics out of it? Or maybe they should stand behind Pep and support him in condemning the killing of kids.

Or maybe anyone condemning the murder of innocent kids makes them uncomfortable enough to lash out.

    Ghouls.

Israel has no history, only a Criminal Record. Vile state. More children bombed in tents today with 24 killed altogether.

French authorities have issued warrants for two Franco-Israeli nationals for “complicity in genocide” over accusations that they attempted to block humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, AFP reports.

GAA management decides not to allow anti-Allianz motions. More than 800 current and former players have called on the GAA to cut ties with Allianz, a sponsor, over its ties to Israels genocide in Gaza. Allianz is involved with the purchase of Israeli war bonds, though it defends itself saying its indirect through investment arms. Some campaigns and reports allege that Allianz provides employers liability insurance and holds shares in companies such as Elbit Systems, a major Israeli military contractor whose equipment is used in combat operations. These ties have been cited by activists as evidence of enabling weapons production used in the Gaza conflict.

A UN Special Rapporteur’s report on corporate involvement in what it described as supporting “Israel’s occupation and war on Gaza” included Allianz among companies identified for such roles, drawing international attention and criticism

….The Clar (agenda) for Congress, the Association’s largest gathering of decision-makers, does not include any motions calling for change to the sponsors and insurers.

The longstanding partnership between insurance giants Allianz and the GAA has caused much debate of late.

Ten counties, including Ulster’s Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone along with Offaly, Roscommon, Leitrim, and Westmeath, all proposed motions for the GAA to end their relationship with Allianz.

A decision from the GAA’s An Coiste Bainistíochta (Management Committee, based on its Ethics and Integrity Commission’s report, just before Christmas meant Allianz would continue too sponsor the GAA’s National League competitions and its Football Championship.

The ethics and integrity body were charged in September with analysing the partnership with the global insurance company in light of a UN report linking it with the genocide in Gaza.

In August, nearly 800 current and former players handed in an open letter and petition to management at Croke Park, calling on the association to drop Allianz insurance as a sponsor for GAA games…..

A little more from the Indo on the recent Shannon story:

In a statement, the Department of Transport said the plane would not have needed any prior authorisation to be allowed entry into the country.“Stops at Irish airports by private aircraft and commercial charters which are technical stops for non-traffic purposes (i.e. not picking up or setting down passengers), do not require prior authorisation from the Department of Transport,” a spokesperson said.

This is interesting in and of itself and seems to imply something like the following: if you stay on a plane in transit and you’re from the right sort of place, we don’t want to know what you’re up to and for the love of God please don’t tell us.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly warned that the Egyptian military is growing stronger, urging closer monitoring despite longstanding ties between the two countries.

The remarks were made during a closed-door meeting on Tuesday with the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, according to a report by The Times of Israel.

Netanyahu was quoted as saying that “the Egyptian army is getting stronger and we need to monitor it,” while acknowledging that "Israel" and Egypt maintain a relationship based "on shared interests". Despite this, he reportedly stressed that the Israeli regime "needs to prevent it [the Egyptian army] from becoming too strong,” reflecting ongoing concerns within Israeli security establishment.

The land will not be given up.

    https://english.pnn.ps/news/48054

In al-Khalayel, south of the village of al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah, heroism is not measured by slogans but by the ability to endure. There, Fatima Osama Abu Naim chose to confront land confiscation and settlement expansion in an unconventional way: by living in a cave, driving a tractor, and insisting that land is not protected by words alone, but by daily, backbreaking action.

Her story is not merely about a woman obtaining a license to drive an agricultural tractor. It is a narrative of female resilience that has redefined the role of women in the struggle to remain on the land.

A few days ago the trial of Palestine Action activists collapsed as the jury was unable to reach a verdict.

Comes as David Lammy is trying to end the automatic right to jury trials for offences carrying up to 3 years prison sentence.

Six Palestine Action activists have been cleared of committing aggravated burglary over a break-in at an Israeli defence firm’s UK site.

Charlotte Head, Samuel Corner, Leona Kamio, Fatema Rajwani, Zoe Rogers and Jordan Devlin were accused of threatening unlawful violence and using sledgehammers as weapons after a prison van was driven into Elbit Systems’ factory in Filton, near Bristol, on 6 August 2024.

The UK’s General Medical Council (GMC) has informed the lawyers of the prominent Palestinian surgeon Ghassan Abu Sittah that it intends to appeal against a tribunal ruling that cleared him of misconduct after complaints from British pro-Israel activists.

Late on Thursday, Abu Sittah confirmed that the British medical regulator had told his legal team it planned to challenge the decision made by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) last month at the High Court. In a statement, released via the International Centre for Justice for Palestinians (ICJP), Abu Sittah accused the GMC of acting under political pressure.“Under its current leadership, the GMC has been weaponised as a tool of political repression in the service of Israel’s genocidal project,” he said.“This will be the third legal action the GMC has brought against me, and I’m quite certain it is the result of political pressure from this Labour government.”Last month, the MPTS ruled there was no basis for a finding of misconduct, dismissing allegations that Abu Sittah’s public statements had impaired his fitness to practise. The GMC’s move comes despite comments by its own chief executive indicating that the regulator is due to lose its right to appeal against MPTS decisions later this year.

A group of Israelis breached the Gaza boundary on Thursday during a march by hundreds of people calling for settlements in the war-torn Palestinian enclave.

The military said it returned the group to Israel shortly after they entered the so-called buffer zone established by the army inside the Gaza Strip."During the past few hours, hundreds of Israeli civilians have attempted to approach the fence in an area designated as a closed military zone and prohibited to civilian entry," the military said, condemning the breach."Approaching the barrier area and entering it is dangerous and disrupts the activity of security forces in the area," it added. The breach occurred as hundreds of Israeli activists marched towards the Gaza Strip, calling for the construction of settlements there. The rally was organised by the Nachala Settlement Movement, a settler group known for establishing outposts in the occupied West Bank

err, no, just that the argument of "from the river to the sea" you've oft quoted applies to both Israelis and Palestinians.

Of course, only Israel is actually physically carrying out its ethnic cleansing to achieve the aim of "from the river to the sea".

No idea where you got the "Western left" from.

The Western Left is fond of the full phrase "From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free" … but I don't see anyone condemning this.

AIPAC continue to distort US elections in favour of supporters of the ethnic cleansing and genocide.

US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sharply criticized the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) on Friday, accusing the pro-"Israel" lobby group of undermining democracy in the United States.

Her comments followed reports that AIPAC’s political action committee, the United Democracy Project (UDP), spent $1.9 million during the Democratic primary in New Jersey. The group aimed to unseat former Rep. Tom Malinowski while indirectly supporting “moderate” candidate Tahesha Way.

This involvement is part of AIPAC’s broader political strategy of funding candidates it considers aligned with its pro-"Israel" agenda, including those who support continued US military aid and political backing for "Israel".

“They are a right-wing organization that undermines democracy,” she said. “They have zero tolerance for any diversity of thought from their line, and pressure elected officials to increasingly place themselves at odds with our responsibility to represent the electorate and the views of the majority of Americans, who find the genocide in Gaza an appalling affront to American values and do not want to see US taxpayer funded weapons used to perpetuate it,” she added.

No-one condemns it because the Palestinians (what's left of them) haven't a hope of carrying it out. Their cutting edge weaponry consisted of some paragliders and Toyota landcruisers plus some well dodgy rockets made out of some water pipe and sticky-backed plastic.

Israel on the other hand is absolutely executing the Likud ideal - with their f35s, f16s, Merkava battle tanks and apache attack helicopters. Tens of thousands of bombs have been dropped on Gaza killing over 70,000 known individuals (circa 50,000 women and children). The settler thugs are running riot in the West Bank as the IDF demolishes thousands of homes, rips up olive trees and slaughters farm animals.

They've even started using chemical warfare now. Wouldn't surprise me if Anthrax was being considered.

Don't see you ever condemning any of that though. But your position has always been clear so it's of no surprise.

I'd imagine being a supporter of Israel is a very lonely place to be. Probably similar to a nazi supporter in 1945 or a modern-day holocaust denier.

Well, well, well… both alleged war criminals (at large) are eating each other… whilst an alleged war criminal, I doubt Gallant is a liar like Netanyahu. At least Gallant fessed up to the implementation of the Hannibal Directive.

Presumably Netanyahu doesn't allow the IDF anywhere near his private jet. It's be a shame if it had to make an emergency landing due to "technical difficulties" in an ICC state…

    Popcorn time.

    Haaretz:

    • Former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who served in the role for more than a year in the aftermath of the October 7 massacre, told Israel's Channel 12 News that PM Netanyahu is a "liar" who has "stabbed Israel's security chiefs in the back" during the Gaza war by letting his ministers incite against them.
    • Gallant, who was ousted in November 2024, rejected claims Netanyahu made in excerpts from security cabinet meetings, in which he cited Gallant as having assessed in the spring of 2023 that Hamas was seeking a long-term arrangement rather than war. "They take snippets of discussions… and put them together," Gallant said.
    • The former defense chief said that "On October 7 at 9 A.M., I finished the situation assessment with the IDF. Netanyahu still had not arrived" at Defense Ministry HQ in Tel Aviv, adding that while Netanyahu claims he was making "decisions at 8 or 9 in the morning. He was not there."

Haaretz telling it like it is.

Wonder what the alleged war criminal's polling numbers are like?

"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a detailed 55-page document on Thursday, containing his version of the failures that led to October 7.

'This document includes transcripts of security meetings and other documents covering a period of 12 years, starting with Operation Protective Edge [the 2014 Gaza War] and up to the morning of October 7,'

Netanyahu said in the press release that accompanied the document…

Since October 7, Haaretz has obtained minutes and summaries of many discussions referred to by Netanyahu in his arguments.

Perusing the full documents reveals a clear and unambiguous picture:

Netanyahu has manipulated the facts, lied, and presented half-truths in what he presented to the public"

If there was any doubt on Likud going full tilt at carrying out it's stated goal of "from the river to the sea", check out them steamrollering completely over International Law and order.

    Haaretz:

Far-right Finance Minister Smotrich said that the security cabinet approved the expansion of oversight and enforcement measures in Palestinian-controlled areas of the West Bank, a decision which runs counter to the Oslo Accords, under which Israel has no authority over civilian matters in the West Bank.

    • The decision also includes the transfer of construction licensing in the city of Hebron from the local Palestinian municipality to the Civil Administration, the IDF branch that oversees zoning, planning and building permits in the West Bank.

According to Smotrich, who said "we will continue to kill the idea of a Palestinian state," the decision will also introduce measures to ease the sale of Palestinian land to Jews.

The Palestinian Presidency on condemned the Israeli cabinet's decisions as "dangerous" and "aimed at deepening attempts to annex the occupied West Bank" and "an unprecedented escalation targeting the Palestinian presence and its national and historical rights," in a statement published by the Palestinian News Agency Wafa.

    That's what Duterte thought too.

But there is at least comfort knowing that Gallant and Netanyahu will always be looking behind them and that their hollybop options are severely limited.

Things change - it could well happen. And that will be a red letter day for Justice.

Of course, Netanyahu is still on trial for corruption and bribery. Assuming Herzog doesn't pardon him, he might be doing time in Israel.

Judging by the number of ICC states who confirmed they would abide by international law and execute the arrest warrants for alleged war criminals, I'd say Netanyahu and Gallant are certainly afraid. Also judging by the convoluted routes Netanyahu has flown recently, he's definitely afraid. I'd imagine Erdogan is just itching for him to cross into Turkish airspace.

Are you also suggesting Israel should not fear a finding by the ICJ that they committed Genocide (if that's what they find of course)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,182 ✭✭✭SafeSurfer

There will be no finding of genocide. Do you really think Turkey or any other state would arrest Netenyahu? Israel and the US would cause them serious pain, sanctions, possibly jointly attack them. NATO be damned.

‘From the river to the sea’: One slogan, many meanings
by Amos Goldberg and Alon Confino
    31.01.2024.
    https://revdem.ceu.edu/2024/03/27/from-the-river-to-the-sea-one-slogan-many-meanings/

Amos Goldberg is Professor of Holocaust History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His book on Holocaust remembrance in Hebrew will be published in Israel by Resling very soon.
Alon Confino is a professor of History and Jewish Studies at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. His latest book is The Coast of Tantura: The Destruction of a Palestinian Village, 1948, published by Pardes Press in Israel in 2023.

“It is often maintained that the slogan ‘From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’ expresses a genocidal and antisemitic intention. But this is generally not the case. On the contrary, the slogan has historically been used to articulate a wide variety of political strategies for Palestinian liberation.
    [...]

“But reflecting on this slogan, which allegedly negates Jews very existence in Israel, must ultimately return to us, Israeli Jews, and to our lives in Israel. Because it is appalling that Israel and its supporters blame those who chant the slogan for supporting genocide, while Israel commits war crimes which the ICJ has declared as plausibly genocidal. Israel has thus far killed more than 30,000 Palestinians, the vast majority of whom are children and women, displaced almost all Gazans, made the Gaza Strip uninhabitable and is deliberately starving the entire Palestinian population.

OCTOBER 2023: PUBLIC STATEMENTS UTTERED BY ISRAELI PRESIDENT ISAAC HERZOG (13/10/23), DEFENCE MINISTER YOAV GALANT (9/10/23) AND OTHERS “HAVE BECOME COMMONPLACE”

“Moreover, in Israel, genocidal public statements have become commonplace. Israel’s president Yitzhak Herzog claimed on 13 October 2023 that there are no innocent citizens in Gaza, thus effectively making all Gaza’s inhabitants legitimate targets for attack. On 9 October, defence minister Yoav Galant declared a complete siege on Gaza: ‘There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed’. [...]

PRESIDENT ISAAC HERZOG'S PUBLIC STATEMENT ON 13 OCTOBER 2023:

    , International Affairs Analyst

    https://www.itv.com/news/2023-10-13/israeli-president-says-gazans-could-have-risen-up-to-fight-hamas

“I asked him [Herzog] what Israel can do to alleviate the impact on the over two million civilians in Gaza, many of whom have nothing to do with Hamas.

"We are working, operating militarily in terms according to rules of international law, period. Unequivocally.

"It is an entire nation out there that is responsible. It's not true this rhetoric about civilians not aware, not involved. It's absolutely not true.

"They could have risen up, they could have fought against that evil regime which took over Gaza in a coup 'd état.

"But we are at war, we are defending our homes, we are protecting our homes, that's the truth and when a nation protects it's home it fights and we will fight until we break their back bone."

He acknowledged that many Gazans had nothing to do with Hamas but was adamant that others did.

"I agree there are many innocent Palestinians who don't agree with this, but if you have a missile in your goddamn kitchen and you want to shoot it at me, am I allowed to defend myself. We have to defend ourselves, we have the full right to do so."

“Asked whether he had a message for the protesters outraged by the deaths of more than 70,000 people in Gaza and who planned to participate in demonstrations during his visit, he said: “These demonstrations, in most cases, what you hear and see comes to undermine and de-legitimise our right, my nation’s right [to] its mere existence.”

“Herzog, whose position is largely ceremonial, said Israel “did not seek that war on October 7. Our nation was attacked terribly, and people were butchered, murdered, raped and burnt and abducted.”

Many states have said they would arrest anyone with an ICC arrest warrant on their head. It is a legal obligation.

You're pretty adamant on that and that the ICJ won't find that genocide was/is committed. Care to share your reasoning or sources corroborating your statements?

    I've certainly seen none.

Because it’s unprecedented for the leader of a western aligned state to be arrested by a third country for crimes against humanity.
Also due to the fact that country is Israel which despite committing genocide, ethnic cleansing, attacking sovereign countries, occupying the territory of multiple neighbours, it faces no consequences.
It initiated illegal wars and attacks on other countries and was not condemned but was defended militarily by European countries.
It continues to play international football, participate at the Olympics and the Eurovision, so anyone who thinks Netenyahu faces a real possibility of arrest is deluded.

Do you honestly think, if for some reason, Netenyahu’s plane had a mechanical emergency and he had to land in Ireland, the Irish government would order his arrest? Do you honestly believe that for one second?

Do you honestly think, if for some reason, Netenyahu’s plane had a mechanical emergency and he had to land in Ireland, the Irish government would order his arrest? Do you honestly believe that for one second?

first, the chance of the alleged war criminal landing in Ireland is slim to none.

Second, if he did, I would expect the Irish govt to arrest him.

That you seem to think the Irish govt would refuse an international legal duty is odd. Other EU countries have stated they will arrest him.

Why do you think his journeys are planned meticulously to avoid the possibility?

Clearly, he knows he's at risk.

Do you think he'd pop over to Dublin for a long weekend to take in the Temple Bar craic, attend a hurling game and visit Herzog Park?

But sure, it's a pointless argument. You think he won't be arrested, I think he will. I think the ICJ will find Israel committed genocide. You don't.

    Let's see what happens.
