That's also the first time a team has done the double over us since January 2016.

Forest, Palace, United, Chelsea, and Brentford all still have a chance to do it too.

It just feels like the players aren’t playing for Slot this season.

Slot also isn’t helping himself starting Salah and Gakpo constantly two players who just don’t put in a defensive shift.

on the Alisson one - an angle there on sky… attacker stretched and shot and Alison saved it and dived into him ?

An inanimate carbon rod would be an upgrade at this stage. Heck, even Gakpo moves more

I don't believe the players aren't playing for Slot.

They're being asked to play a style they're not suited to. Safe, tepid recycling of possession out to the wings is simply not the formula for this Liverpool team.

When we up the tempo, play passes through the lines quickly, and try to get in behind, we look bloody dangerous. But it never lasts.

Salah played reasonably well today. People picking him out as the problem today have literally no clue about football!

They’d probably be the same people if Hugo have nailed that header saying Mo is back, after his fantastic pass. People who judge football on goals scored and nothing else.

We played really well in the second half. We should have caught Silva offside and won 1-0, but we didnt, so it’s Slot’s and Salah’s fault 🙄 Thankfully FSG are intelligent and know about football, unlike a small and noisy contingent

Does anyone honestly on here hold the belief that, under slot, we will go from where we are to back competing at the top?

    Genuine question.

    If so, why.

We were toothless as ever in the first half, have now failed to score in 15 of our 25 first halves this season.

With only 3 goals in the opening 30 mins of those 25 games.

We're back to that eh. Salah is class, not the issue with the team.

It was headless chicken stuff at the end, really just felt like we were pure chaos and no plan. City to be fair found another gear with a few minutes to go and deserved the win. It's a long way from the games when we were both gunning for 90+ points season after season. A sorry state of affairs.

Deserved far more out of that, terrible decisions did for us. Salah should have had a peno (not different to the pull Dom was sent off for). Definite red for Guehi and not a penalty against Allison, ball hoofed wide never going to get it and a gunuine attempted to save it with an attacker running into him.

Some good performances across the field, I’m more positive than negative after that. Salah much better also, thought he did well overall.

    No.

We've been in a slump for far too long, you can't take over half a season (so far) to turn things around, it'd worry me that even if we do recover our form we could slip again and spend another few months trying to recover.

Keeper felt if he could see the ball that he would not be beaten from there. Hence why he only wanted 2 in the wall.

Playing teams right down the bottom in next 2 months. All no hopers, of course they will shine against us

Or, we can make a dent in top 4 .

Its reminds me of when trossard blew Writz off the ball and the penalty wasn't given . Seen as a coming together where writz didn't have control of the ball despite a clear barge. When goalkeepers make the same challenge unfortunately it nearly always a foul though, it's was completely unnecessary from Ali though as the Shot wasn't on

Our best chance of the match, before the free kick goal, was created by Salah.

I'd love to see the parallel universe result where Slot is not too slow to make a change after going 1-0 up and bringing on Jones for either Gakpo or Wirtz or Salah at 1-0 up and trying to control the game to see it out.

But then again, Slot was fairly damning of Jones in the pre match press conference and basically said Jones is only a squad player and has to wait for injuries in midfield until he can start games. It was weird man management to say the least, and Slot probably doesn't trust Jones enough to play.

Kit should have scored from Salah ball, Wirtz should have powered his chance into goal, and it could have been a red for Salah incident, he was in to shoot!

We had the chances, Ekitike's header in particular, simply has to be taken. Wirtz should have put his laces through the ball too. But uf you don't take your chances, you can get punished and we certainly were.

Alonso to go on holiday for a few months and come in at the start of the summer after Slot nabs 5th at seasons end.

On our current trajectory there isn't a hope of us getting a sniff of 5th

plenty more ups and downs in this season id still very confident we get 4th place at least i tune in to that craig lad on you tube what a nut job could anyone recommend some one half normal that covers the matches please ??

Lots of good players but by far the worst coached team in the league over the season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 886 ✭✭✭SodiumCooled

Hammering Newcastle and very unlucky to not get a result today? What trajectory is that then?

I think we will be in the top 4 never mind 5th - long way to go and we are improving week on week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,557 ✭✭✭The Rooster

I was calling for Jones instead of Gakpo from before kickoff and right through the game. We were well on top when we scored, so my guess is that Slot didnt want to make the change immediately after the goal as it would have sent a defensive message to the team and we may have gone timid. Instead the message was positive, keep going, get the second, that’s what will kill the game. He didnt want to sit back and invite City on.

We had three really good attacking opportunities between the our goal and the equaliser, that the lads just didnt execute properly. And obviously we should have had Silva offside for the equaliser. Sometimes sh!t happens unfortunately.

I didn't see the first half so can't comment on that but I thought we were the better team in the second half. Once Ekitike missed that header though I just knew we'd lose.

Newcastle are in an even worse state than we are. Hammering them isn't a barometer of anything nor really worth anything more in the grand scheme of things than the 3 points earned.

We have been awful since April and the issues were apparent even before then despite our league win.
The lack of game management, the consistently poor tactical approach and the inability to close our games out or maintain control when in the lead?

Are all coaching issues and the trajectory doesn't bode well.

Or another way to look at it,one league win in 7 since the start of the year
