Tubs does seem to have a fan base of the over 70s, judging from the amount of auld wans (and a few auld lads) foaming at the gusset any time there’s a Ryan-related puff piece posted on Facebook.

Surely VMTV could capitalise on that demographic by producing an inexpensive knock off of Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip in which Ryan cycles around the country picnicking and having jolly japes in different counties. Mirthful mayhem could ensue as he tackles local activites like milking a cow or trying to play Hurley.

He could even tie in to his other projects, e.g. a QR code on screen linking to a review video of the books in his bicycle basket or a competition for one lucky viewer to have Ryan do their obituary.

    It practically writes itself.

He could sub contract the pedalling to D’Arcy. Maybe get them a tandem?

His fans love to make up fantasy programmes for him to do.

Loads of vacancies now at RTÉ Gold……a low key way back for Ryan

He probably put it towards repaying the infamous 150k.

100%. If you didn’t hear about it then it didn’t happen. This is the man who shamelessly took a victory lap for taking a pay cut while his minimum wage researchers got shafted and he got a free 150k.

And then only repaid his due when he knew his London gig was being canned.

You being so mean to poor auld Ray. He was in his prime on Radio 1, after so many successful years on Today FM, and don't forget his TV work, You're A Star. Blackboard Jungle.

    Typical boards users TBH.

    (***I might be very sarcastic*****)

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

Trust me if it were Tubs it would be all hearsay!

He still won't take responsibility. Even a soft interview like this, he's still verbally dancing around giving answers.

    Communication was the greatest fatality

He’s not doing himself any favours with this interview, trying to whitewash his part, not greedy at all.

Carefully avoiding criticising RTE there, tripping over his words because he wants back in the door.

Not a bad description of this thread.

Yes I listened to him being interviewed which has now ended.

It was a more probing interview than I expected and think Tubridy performed well.

People who didn't hear it live will be able to listen on the RTE Player if they want so no point in me reviewing it.

Miriam performed well, asked the hard questions, not much responsibility accepted by Ryan, acting the innocent while earning a half million per year is a bit hard to take !

They are not using my money to pay him. If he is back on the payroll then I am never paying the license fee again.

I thought he was fine before, maybe not worth what he was paid, but a good guy. Now though it would be a slap in the face for any license payers to hand money over to him.

Well people can listen to it themselves and make up their own minds, that is if they haven't firmly made them up already.

Nothing that came out was any surprise to me but then I'm a bit of an 'RTE payments scandal geek' and others will react on a more human level. How did he sound, was he evasive?

I think he performed well but then I'm biased.

100,000 curiosities killed the cat. One moment he says he doesn’t know anything about money, the next moment he’s very very specific about some very small detail. Also for someone who is over Rte he’s very well versed in who the Top 10 earning staff are. Referring to the DG as Mr Backhurst suggests he is not as friends as he implied in some of his remarks.

A very nervous, defensive interview. Made sure to get all the plugs in though. Getting the most out of the ordeal

Noel Kelly seeing his commission dwindle to almost nothing at this point. Tubridy is getting 40k for Sunday afternoon slot in the uk. It’s a big drop from the good ol RTE days. No wonder he’s spinning his wheels desperately to get back in there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,706 ✭✭✭yagan

    Allegedly getting 40K.

If you believe nothing you hear and half of what you see, he would not be flooding the zone in Ireland now if a UK career had traction.

I see the RTE website is reporting on the Miriam interview.

Speaking today, Mr Tubridy said there are lots of things he would do differently in retrospect and that he also accepts responsibility for his part in the payments controversy in 2023 that led to his departure from RTÉ.

"In reality, looking back on everything, I would be inclined to examine things a little closer and say, well, look, maybe we should look at this and look at that. And, you know, there was a kind of bizarre sequence of events that led to where we got to in the end."

"I will take responsibilty for my mistakes," Mr Tubridy said, "but I respectfully contend that there was a wall of scandal and I was just a brick in that wall."

Mr Tubridy said that he appreciated Mr Bakhurst saying that RTÉ takes the bulk of the blame for what happened during the payments controversy.

"Although I also accept responsibility for my part," Mr Tubridy added.

RTÉ DG may have done me a favour with release - Tubridy

For anyone not bothered enough to listen to it this is a reasonable summary of the main points.

You'll only ever hear or see him on RTÉ again as a guest or interviewee on some show.

I missed it. Can you send me the link?

    Did he talk about:

    • Telling his co-workers he also took a pay cut?
    • RTE paying for NK employee taxis?
    • RTE staff and equipment being used for his 3rd party events?

    No, none of that.

Miriam didn't push either as far as I heard.

I found two points he made intresting.

    1. He wasn't dropping Noel Kelly as an agent, "Noel is a friend". Something like that. NK has given Ryan some very poor advice that has cost him a LOT of money. He should drop him.
    2. Ryan claims the reasons behind his very expensive Data Request. Which has so far cost 100k is "curiosity", and also "journalism". Which is it? Curiosity or does he belive that there is something there which justifies the expense based on public intrest or journalistic grounds? Some might say it is a fishing expedition or an attempt to weaponise the legal process. Not that it is of course, you would have to be paranoid to think that. But some people are saying that.
