Just to clarify if I was to avail of the windows upgrade grant do I have to also get a heat pump installed? I badly need new windows, I got a new composite door 2 years ago. Won't be getting a heat pump, I live alone, very low income, and wouldn't have the money for a deep retrofit or the works that go with it.

why do people come out with utterly ridiculous and very misinformed trash especially when almost every report on this new grant before it was announced stated the actual proposed figures for each house type

EVERY house type can avail of it once the relatively simple conditions are met.

To even think that such a policy would be for just one type of house is pure mindboggling senseless.

why not go to the seai site where ALL the answers are given - on boards, as per a previous post in this thread, you get pope without a clue giving very wrong information, so best to go to the very easy to locate official source where you can find the exact information you need

As far as I know , It’s the date you pay for them that matters and that date should after the date of grant approval . Would your supplier be willing to hold off until then?

I am just in the process of getting mine ordered, I will talk to the rep from Munster I presume they will become a registered supplier and I can maybe get them order to have them moving and by the time 6-8 weeks comes around I can get a receipt for the full payment prior to fitting that may work I hope. Otherwise I just will have to delay a month

The building fabric loss figure requirements here are screwing me out of any chance of this being workable, which is a pity as it would probably have had the offshore island 50% uplift that other SEAI grants have.

The after figure needs to be 2.3 or better. House existing figure is on the last BER as 6.125!

Some of that is because the existing windows and doors have no performance certs, but the doors I want to replace are so poor that they wouldn't have helped much; with no certs for the attic insulation or the small amount of internal insulation either. However the biggest issue is that it's a rubble stone cottage - not a lot you can do there. The internal insulation shouldn't have been done to begin with really.

I was wondering that aswell and its not answered on the SEAI site. I don't intend getting a heat pump just new windows and I wonder does the grant apply in this scenario?

I've just realised there's no BER on my house, does this mean i'd have to get a BER to qualify for the grant and then another BER after the install to see if it gets to the 2.3 or better, so in theory I could end up worse off trying to chase the grant.

are you talking about applying for the heat pump grant?

if so, yes you get an initail BER done to asses the current levels, the technial advisor then either says its at the right HLI levels, or they suggest upgrades to get to the HLI levels.

you then do the work an dinstall teh heta pump. its only after that that a final BER is carried out to confirm the suggested works andheat pump installation has happened.

No just the doors at the moment, still not convinced on a heat pump, maths didn’t work the last time we got a quote, the bigger grant might change things but it’s not on my radar at the moment.

I take it there will be a bit of time before window and doors companies become registered contractors for the standalone grant. Previously it would be done indirectly with a one stop shop crowd ordering from a window company.

the rte podcast on this was very good today, lots of questions answered by the chap from seai. Goes through nearly all the grants,

The front door grant is 800 but need post ber certificate which will cost another 250/300 (minus 50 seai ber grant). So really front door grant is nearer 550. That's my reading of it anyway so might be easier to get discount off door price with supplier if you're already ordered instead of grant and waiting another 2/3 months

It's 800 per door to a max of 2 doors, so essentially a €1600 Grant

sorry that's incorrect , it is now , they changed the terms some years ago. think it was 2018 for a year. Eamonn ryan was minister and it was to encourage people to do other improvements first before getting solar. it killed installs and they rolled it back the following year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 278 ✭✭headtheball14

sorry I should say I think it's similar though , at the time I was putting in one off measures. to get solar I had to do similar to heat pump assessment so would have had to block windows , wall insulation etc to get a grant for solar. also would have to get full technical assessment for best part of a grand with a grant towards that but only if I got all the suggested work done . It was that way for year or so and then rolled back

    Are you sure?

The scheme was initially launched in 2018 only and further revised in 2022 to remove a minimum BER requirement.

I made applications during that period and they were straight forward. Between them and the EV charger grants, very little nuance required and all paid in good time.

What are people paying for install of new double galzed windows for a standard 4 bed semi these days excluding the grant. I.e 4 windows at front and 4 at back and 2 at sides. Roughly / ballpark - thanks.

We are borderline reaching an A3 rating for our house at the moment. We have dry-lined, pumped cavity, 400mm insulation in attic, new triple glazed windows and new front door in the last year.

One thing that was suggested to us was a draught lobby/corridor and this might help with our rating. A porch with patio door and window would make up most of the fabric of this. I wonder would the grant be available for the window/door element?

Waiting for a quote at the moment, will a couple of weeks at least but will pm when I get it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,501 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Just on the windows, you don’t need to do them all to get the grant and the doors don’t necessarily need to be the back and front, one could be a patio for example. It’s all on that rte recording I linked to earlier.

What I don’t know with the windows is would they let you upgrade the glass and seals with the grant and leave the original frames.

  • Subscribers, Paid Member Posts: 44,928 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

Not in my opinion, as that change would barely move the BER needle. The majority of heat loss in windows is through the thermal bridge of the frame.

It's highly unlikely a single glazed wooden window frame could take triple glazing panels anyway. i would imagine one of the conditions of this grant would be a minimum u value for the window set.

Do windows have to be Irish made [whatever that looks like these day!]

What was the quote on your windows and doors any harm to ask?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75,483 ✭✭✭✭L1011

No, that would be against EU competition rules.

Based on the above, I probably wouldnt qualify if I just wanted to get one door and maybe the front windows done? As the HLI would still be too high I presume?

Annoying as I have a tonne of insulation (previous owner) in the attic and I know the previous owner also internally dry line insulated (I have a photo of the thickness of it from when we were renovating and had to add a new socket - but I believe this wouldnt count, nor the insulated attic, if we got a new BER report as the assessor doesnt have evidence of it being installed).

Anyone know any dfferently from what I have above?

got a quote 12 months ago for a 4 bed detached dormer bungalow for 15k for doors and windows . Got an updated quote from same company for 21k this week . Got similar quotes from other companies lately . It’s obvious a lot of window and doors companies are just adding the price of the windows and doors grants to the quotes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,677 ✭✭✭kerryjack

Thinking of upgrading our front and back door front 5 foot, back 6 foot french doors any one no roughly a cost to replace and fit and waiting times for grant approval I take it that there is a grant of 800 a door but probably have to jump through a few hoops for it thanks

you need an installer thats on the approved list, the approval is instantaneous: getting it paid out is another story.

2,000 euro a sq m is a good number to start with for a serious door
