What the article was reporting on.. You'll find plenty of industry leaders backing up these statements. That's not to mention the impact on graduate markets.

"In medieval England, there was no law if your pockets were deep. Crimes had fixed costs: A couple of hundred gold coins got you off the hook if you killed a poor man; 2,000 if you killed a rich one. America’s founders imagined a different way forward. In their debates about the pardon power, Edmund Randolph, later the first attorney general, demanded an exception for treason. “The President may himself be guilty,” he objected. “The traitors may be his own instruments.”

Randolph secured an exception for those impeached, but other than that, the president can pardon anyone for any reason. And while there have always been dubious pardons for political cronies, “unprecedented” doesn’t begin to describe how Donald Trump has corrupted the power of presidential forgiveness. First, there’s the scope: He granted 238 pardons and commutations in his first term. Last year, he went into overdrive, granting some 1,700 more, including to many key actors in the plot to steal the 2020 election. That included all 1,583 people charged with or convicted of joining in the January 6 riot—a mass pardon of violent insurrectionists exceeded only by Andrew Johnson’s blanket amnesty for Confederate troops. In fact, two-thirds of all pardons since 2001 went to people who invaded the Capitol, including 169 people charged with beating cops and 174 who stormed its grounds with a deadly weapon. Some went on to get new convictions: possession of child porn, even reckless homicide.

Trump’s other pardons show his affinity for white-collar criminals, especially those who line MAGA pockets. Con artist Jacob Wohl and his business partner Jack Burkman got a million to help nursing home fraudster Joseph Schwartz. Lobbyist Ches McDowell, a hunting pal of Donald Trump Jr., charged at least $450,000 to bag a pardon for crypto mogul Changpeng Zhao. Altogether, Trump has erased more than a billion dollars in restitution and nearly 2,000 convictions. You need data to understand a break this extreme—so we crunched the numbers."

I see Bannon is talking about using ICE agents to "protect" voting stations.

If any of this sounds familiar it's because it's the first thing the kkk was used for:

A lot of Americans did vote on morals……A lot of "Irish" Catholic and Christian groups voted solely on the Abortion issue, as far as they are concerned it is morally wrong and they felt Democrats wanted unlimited late term abortion. I know people who are single issue voters and this is the single issue.

Anyone who thinks there is no correlation between Bidens student loan forgiveness plans and a higher number of graduates voting Democratic doesn't understand what bribery is, of course more Undergrads and Graduates would vote for a party who wanted to let them off the hook for hundreds of thousands of dollars, that wasn't a moral decision it was a personal profit decision.

And they voted in a man that oversaw 500k deaths due to covid. And us now happily killing citizens and non citizens alike while also pardoning drug traffickers.

So super job on completely misunderstanding the Democrats position on abortion and in doing so voting in a man with little to no regard for human life.

And that's my point. Trump promised them what they wanted and so they arw happy to accept everything that comes with it

It not sunk cost. It that they fully accept that whatever Trump does, its worth it to get what they value. Be that abortion restrictions, cut down immigration or whatever.

In lighter news, Melania and its unexpectedly high sales don't actually appear to have people in the purchased seats.. Sounds like tickets were bulk purchased to mask a lack of an audience.

Agreed. It's amazing how short a memory people seem to have because they forgot how Trump's approval rating was tanking in 2020 and Biden had double digit leads in some swing state polls going into that election, yet Trump actually got more votes than in 2016. Despite everything, people have shown up for him in 3 successive elections. They'd show up again if they could and would, if Trump has his way.

There's definitely some political dark matter out there in the suburbs who strongly approve of his approach on immigration.

Even though all of them now show a disapproval rating his strongest support is from white males, 45 - 64 years of age, with home schooling or less.

The result of chaos that was sowed by Democrat leadership. No cooperation with ICE. Odd that they cooperated with ICE when Biden was in office.

Tim Walz's press conferences where he has been stoking the flames have been motivating people to put themselves into harms way by impeding federal law enforcement.

Perfect timing with the insane level of fraud uncovered in Minnesota which forced him out of running again for governor. He couldnt have been given a better hand to play.

High school or less? Some home schooling is very good.

I’ve long considered Plato and Aristotle anti-democratic elitists but I’m beginning to see the dangers of populism which social media seems to exacerbate. In this regard I prefer our system to America’s. I’m happy to let parties choose the leaders of their parties and therefore the country. They know more about it than I do.

Bannon’s threats of ICE at the polling stations are chilling. Americans will have to stand up if they want to keep their republic.

I made the point a while back in this thread that Trump has done a good job stopping illegals getting in. Even NBC who are no fans of Trump are admitting it now. The less that get in, the less that need deporting.

Its a pity Trump told Republican senators in 2024 to vote against a bipartisan bill that would have provided increased funding to border patrol.

He did that so he could campaign on improving border security.

Wouldn't you agree he shouldn't have done that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,254 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Of course and I've said it before. That's the dirty game of politics for you and they don't come dirtier then trump. Now that the border is relatively secure I hope the next president (hopefully a democrat) builds on this.

To answer your question from a moral standpoint he shouldn't have done it. From a political standpoint he'd have been crazy not to.

Wasn't there bad blood from the beginning of Bidens term? After spending the previous 4 years fighting Trumps border wall plans according to Wikipedia he did this as soon as he got into office.

"During his first day in office, Biden unveiled the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 and reversed many of Trump's policies on immigration, such as halting the construction of the Mexico–United States border wall, travel ban, and signed an executive order to reaffirm protections for DACA recipients."

Both sides were constantly having a pop at eachothers policies here but eventually Trump came out on top won the last election and now he's getting the plaudits for successfully reducing the numbers entering illegally.

I see Trump wished Ghislaine well again in another interview. This is the third time.

How the f*** is he not publicly eviscerated daily by the press for this?

Ffs Collins received more contempt from Trump for not smiling while she asked about raped kids, than he has shown to the rapist of those kids.

As is usual with abusers, blame the victims.

No truth to what you said - protests were happening before anyone spoke up, and as you know, peaceful assembly is indeed protected behavior.

Not like someone in a leadership position said "You have to fight or we're going to lose our country! Fight, fight, fight!" - CFTrump, 6 Jan 2021

Whistleblower complaint against DNI Tulsi Gabbard. Claims shes stalling the review of it. We dont know what the allegations are. Executive privilege seems to be involved.

A few days ago she was present in the raid on Fulton County Georgia 2020 ballots.

They cooperated with ICE precisely as much as they did previously. The State continued to honour detainers for prisoners from ICE. Biden wasn't sending thousands of masked Jack-booted, trigger happy thugs into the state so its a bit hard to know whether they would have cooperated with that.

    Who would eviscerate him?

Its been shown repeatedly that MAGA is full off people who approve of Epsteins carry on.

Unfortunately you need to understand the difference between border crossings and detected border crossings.

Some of the 'unverified tips' regarding Trump are staggering stuff. Obviously they're 'unverified' since they were presumably never even investigated, and never will be needless to say. Unless backed up by emails or other substantiation, there's very little anyone can do with them, and they're not even being mentioned in most of the mainstream media.

In general, redactions appear to have been made to protect the identity of perps in the more detailed documents and victim statements, while victim details appear to have been routinely unredacted even to the extent to releasing current addresses and contact details.

That's ironic about Bannon seeing he is repeatedly mentioned in the latest release, usually telling Epstein about his far-right proselytising in Europe and the UK.
