Interesting heads up on the Group Chat last night about thinking before posting anything online, and how much info you should post about yourself online. I personally am to blame for doing that to myself and appreciate their heads up on it. It just reiterates and reinforces what we should and shouldn’t post about ourselves or our children etc. I’ve only posted 40 times and I’ve given out personal info negligently about myself. I didn’t really think about it, being innocent of the eyesballs on this site. But upon the advice on the Group Chat last night, it occurred to me I had been lazy and naive. More of these warning are needed without causing the population alarm on our national TV channels and it needs to happen more regularly. Thanks to the journalists for doing so on last nights show.

@The Venus Project Worth sharing data protection video on it.

    Pause before you post!

It is a bit unrealistic that random strangers would see your social post and be able to comment in real life based on the content of them.

Gavin Riley not being used as the fill in anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,742 ✭✭✭RoTelly

I got an post of mine delete in another forum for saying this but.

Gavin Reilly is very dull, and a bit of a know it all. I had various views on his Group Chat co-hosts, but basically they just seem to agree with one another.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

Know it all that knows nothing from what I can see.

Their podcast is amateur hour stuff.

Sheehan isn't great at the job either.

Bit of an unusual choice as a fill in.

I prefer him to the last lad. He asks questions and doesn't shout over people when they try to answer.

That segment about the drones was a real eye opener.

Small countries like Estonia can spend 5% on defence but we can't even manage 3%

Sinead Gibney who wants to nationalise social media, says she visited the United States during the summer. She claimed that she was worried about going because of her views on Gaza.

Why visit the US at all? Difficult to take these people seriously when they are so anti American but then admit they went there.

Niall Collins got his arse handed to him by Sheehan.

They should have had Louise Byrne on tonight.

Today she did ask MM some questions and he didn't react very well.

Is Alison O'Connor's only job to speak rubbish on political panel programmes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,686 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

Michael Martin gets tetchy and the journalist leaps straight for a Trumpian comparison. Our journalists don't seem to know any other comparison. Amateur hour stuff.

Just complete and utter nonsense out of her again and again and again. Every time I listen to her speaking, I think this is another level of guff altogether. A total spoofer Bill.

    Gavan Reilly has left X.

There appears to be an exodus of politicians and now the media from X.

I think at one point he was tweeting the daily covid numbers for about 2 years despite the details being available on any news site. His valued journalism will be missed.

Jesus your man from the Daily Mail presenting tonight is real car crash stuff..just shows he is ok as a panelist but different story when you are hosting. They had really messed up this show, need a proper host again #bringbackvinny

It could be a good gig for PBH but I guess he's a staffer with the other crowd.

They don't seem to be bothering with Gavan Reily anymore.

or Fionnan Sheahan. Doesn't look like they have a long-term successor lined up…

RTE used to have Questions and Answers with John Bowman, later replaced by the Frontline with Pat Kenny. TV3 had Vincent Browne’s programme, later replaced by the Tonight Show with Yates and Cooper. Now we’re down to two nights of a wooden stand-in presenter on Virgin and only Aine Lawlor’s solemn Saturday programme on the national broadcaster. It’s surreal to have witnessed such a regression in the current affairs offering. Mark Caruthers’ Sunday Politics is far and away the best politics programme on the island.

VMTV have been given 3million in funding for News and Current Affairs. It's likely that Tonight will start going out 4 nights a week again.

Also RTÉ pretty much cancel their Monday CA in the Summer.

Sunday - TWIP (Have to agree TWIP was better in the past, Aine Lawlor's time at the helm has been dower)

Monday - Q&A, Frontline, Claire Byrne and Upfront ==⇒ Cancelled.

    Tuesday - Prime Time

Wednesday - The Midweek Movie (A remember that)

    Thursday - Prime Time

    I email RTÉ about it

Me: Do you know if Upfront will be replaced in September with a new regular Audience and Panel based Monday night Current affairs programme? or has this type of programme been axed? (Link to news article provided)

RTÉ: There are currently no confirmed plans for a replacement programme on Monday nights. Programming will be confirmed towards the end of August and announced with the Autumn schedule. Otherwise, the only information we have on this is what is mentioned in the statement you referenced below.

Me: It does read as though RTÉ are not going to have a panel / audience show from that press release. "As part of the organisation’s New Direction Strategy, in the prioritising digital content, it has recently launched a news podcast, and Clarity, a new strand beginning to tackle increasing misinformation and disinformation challenges." Can you confirm?

RTÉ: We are not in a position to confirm any plans for future programming at this office. We are only aware of the information as outlined in the public statement.

Me: If you could pass my mail on to the News and Current Affairs division of RTÉ, they may be able to help me.

RTÉ: We have forwarded your query for the attention of the News and Current Affairs team to see if they can advise further.

RTÉ: Just to follow up on your query - the News and Current Affairs team responded to say they have already advised media and all interested parties that “Details of all new programming will be announced as part of RTÉ's New Season launch in August.” We hope you can appreciate that they are not in a position to advise anything further in advance of that.

Me: I will assume that RTÉ has no plans to have a regular Audience / Panel programme in the future, save for Presidential debates, referendums and election debates. But I look forward to being proven wrong.  Also please let the News and Current Affairs team know that "all interested parties" includes their audience and public when asked a question

    Am I the A-hole … I don't care haha.

Also I was wrong there was no live studio audience Presidental debate from any broadcaster. I have to admit when I am wrong I suppose.

Ah, interesting. Hopefully that can pay for a proper presenter as well.

Very well said in your emails. That initial bureaucratic deflection is so frustrating. ‘We don’t know the answer down here in the mailroom’. Okay, so send it upstairs!

I don't understand why Prime Time can't be shown 3 times a week.

RTE are getting away with not having a nightly current affairs programme now for ages. They had Prime Time at only once a week in the summer months and that was extended because of The Traitors. Farce.

We openly lecture other countries about free speech when our own media is so lacking in output.

Tánaiste Simon Harris joins guest presenter John Lee on #TheTonightShow at 10pm to discuss:
    🚨The flooding blame game
    🚨Opposing the Mercosur deal
🚨Why he wants to ban teenagers from accessing social media

Why can't they just enforce "Ireland’s “age of digital consent” is 16" it is parents buying phones for under 16's?

Not a fan of Simon but interested to hear why he justifies the ban here, which as I said in another thread just leaves the platforms/parents of the hook?

"Do you agree with James Brown that Met Eireann were to blame for everything that happened"

Such a lazy way of phrasing a question in a serious interview. Of course Harris is going to bat it away..

Typical Simon waffled on but said very little of important note. Repeating a lot of things he has said before.

Who's John Lee? Are they doing auditions like RTE did for Liveline (and then picked none of them) or just getting random people?
