Well done to Billie Eilish for her courageous speech last night at the Grammy awards and i assume as she has publicly acknowledged that America is stolen land I'm sure she'll have no problem handing over the horse ranch she lives on in Los Angeles to the Tongva people who are the people the land of Los Angeles was stolen from. I mean what sort of sicko would continue to live on stolen land.

Thought it'd be handy to start a thread highlighting all the uber woke nonsense that gets said these days particularly with the entertainment awards season there should be loads of this stuff that would all give us a good laugh.

Isn't twitter a better place for this kind of thing? Or maybe truth social. Or maybe some void you could shout into?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,704 ✭✭✭Jack Daw

We did have a thread for this sort of stuff in the past but a load of whingers got it shut down (when they could've just ignored it).

Don't see the harm in pointing out the kind of uber-woke nonsense spouted in the modern world and taking the piss out of the people who do it, if you don't like it don't read the thread, fairly easy thing to do in fairness.

Seeing as you don't like this sort of thing I'll assume this will be your last contribution to the thread.

I don't engage with social media so probably miss a lot of it.

Seems to be getting less attention in recent times but there's still the types about on forums that will jump on the slightest hint of digression from the approved narrative.

I prefer things like this to be honest.

Strangely enough you ignore the fact she and others were ultimately highlighting how people are being treated at the hands of ICE. I'd personally be a hell of a lot more concerned about such issues. But I'm guessing you view any such criticisms as Uber woke too...

Yeah, she wants to critcise ICE thats perfectly fine. Adding the "this is stolen land" argument while living on said stolen land is really ridiculous and undermines her whole argument. If she actually cared about the land being "stolen" and wasn't being incredibly insincere she'd decide to leave America and leave the land for the native americans who it was stoeln from.

Also if you argue in favour of open borders as she does then she can't argue against whitey arriving in America in the first place.

Agreed. Leopards eating people's faces never gets old.

Says a man who desperately clings to relevance. It's rather sad, honestly that he needs to resort to this sort of thing.

Plenty of musicians are pretty well educated and music is often political. Kendrick Lamar is a Pulitzer winner and has always engaged in commentary. Have you ever heard of folk music from the sixties? Should they have not been political as well? Just sounds like you don't like certain things being discussed.

And Ricky Gervais comments all the time on issues that he has absolutely no idea about and he's invariably wrong. So I wouldn't be using him as a commenter.

As Gervais has got older he's become a real life David Brent. He's become a sad little man.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,370 ✭✭✭✭ancapailldorcha

That was my impression as well. Gervais isn't much more than a generic angry man now as shown in the image I posted from the London Underground. Might as well have pasted a tweet from someone like Roy Chubby Brown.

Where would you suggest she go live?

She was born in America, she is American, but you think she isnt entitled to live in the land of her birth?

Have all the superstars who said they'd leave America when Trump got voted in for a second term left yet?

I'm fine with her living there.

However don't be complaining that America is stolen land and then play a part in the stealing of this. She's part of the problem that she's complaining about.

All those people who genuinely feel America is stolen land should trace their roots and head back to Europe where their ancestors are from or they could cop themselves on and stop pretending they care and get on with their lives. Imagine how scummy you'd have to be to admit the land you are living on is stolen but yet continue living their.

The stolen land people don't give two tosses they just like to pretend they do.

That's just a lazy way to dismiss what someone is saying. Attack the argument not the person who made it.

What an absolutely awful idea for a thread. What kind of heartless people prefer to laugh at love and empathy? How f*cked in the head do you have to be to take the side of vicious fascists instead of the people with the courage to stand up against them? That sh!t shouldn't be welcome here. Take it to Stormfront or /b with the rest of the cretins.

"Queen's University Belfast is to remove the name of former US Senator George Mitchell - one of the architects of the Good Friday Agreement - from a peace centre following the emergence of new information contained in the Jeffrey Epstein files released on Friday.

A bust of Mr Mitchell will also be removed from the university grounds.

Mr Mitchell chaired the negotiations which led to the 1998 peace agreement.

The former senator has a long-standing association with the university where he was chancellor from 1999 to 2009."

QUB removing Mitchell name from centre over Epstein links

"Links" in the case of Mitchell amount to a couple of uncontroversial mentions in Epstein emails apparently.

Who's immune from this type of nonsense, most people have friends or associates who could at any future time be revealed as 'sex criminals'.

id need more info about mitchell, to truly judge, but i do think its also a bit of nonsense, id have to agree with you, mitchell played a vital role in forming the good friday agreements, the facts about that cnut trump need to be released though

Congratulations on entirely missing the point of what she was saying. She was saying that it's hypocritical for Americans to be cheering on and supporting the actions of ICE considering they are all immigrants.

But it's easier to just go "LOL Woke!" than actually critically think about the point being made.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,704 ✭✭✭Jack Daw

Pull yourself toigether will you. There was a thread like this on the site in the past , it's just got removed becasue of whining from certain posters. It's now fascist to take the piss out of virtue signaling celebrities?

It's performative empathy I'm mocking, Billie Eilish comments are a prime example of performative empathy, Stolen land , which is fair enough but then she's quite happy to live on this stolen land herself, if she really cared she'd hand the land back to the indigenous people who once lived there.

Also is it empathetic to defend illegal immigration considering not all of the illegal immigrants are nice people, how about empathy for the victims of illegal immigrants, if illegal immigration was dealt with then all the victims of illegal immigrants would be safe today, where is the empathy for them?

There were many threads like this in the past. Somehow this one managed to survive for over 400 pages.

    I've attacked the argument

She said America was stolen land.

That is a nonsensical positon to take while continuing to live on stolen land. Perfectly fine argument to make for someone from outside america, but an american can't make that argument and continue to live their.
