Where was that? €5 for two pasties is scandalous, even in Dublin.

Small place in the city … I can’t remember the name, I’ve had a few bags in the last week, and don’t want to tar the wrong one.

O'Hehirs bakeries never let me down with a bag, always well worth it if you can get one.

Getting cancelled twice in a row by Aldi , different branches, and not able to get near the Applegreen Celbridge at all. Less and less meat products in the “surprises”, tbh can’t stand the pork stuff ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭gussieg

    that’s three times in a row .

Are they at least giving you notice? I’ve started to lose faith in the app.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭gussieg

no notice , and luckily I hadn’t set out , first time I was actually in the shop when he cancelled it, second time I was on the way there.

It's the dynamic pricing they brought in as an option for sellers that I take issue with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭gussieg

they fleece the shops per bag unless they’re a big operator like Aldi and they sell to us even when the shops let them know they’re not open at that time. A better system but still not perfect is olio , this one is just aimed at too good to go to make bigger profits, planet environment bedamned. Food cloud is a good system but you have to have some kind of charitable status to apply for the food and even they have a system now for charging end users, and suppliers, and yet they employ volunteers and receive donations of both food and money.

I applied to work as a driver for Food cloud but wax told unless I was able and willing to carry heavy weights ie 20-30 kg at a time, I wasn’t considered. When I pointed out that even their current drivers used handtrolleys they were adamant about the physical conditions , thus cutting out most women from the job unless they’re were already bodybuilding regularly.

Circle Ks have appeared on the app in Cork, cluttering up the map with what I reckon will be a bunch of low effort bags.

They say in the description that it'll likely be two sammiches and two pastries in a bag. Will wait a while before trying but I don't hold out much hope. To me, it really seems like TGTG is being used to generate an additional revenue stream in a lot of places, rather than a method to reduce food waste.

Has TGTG got rid of dynamic pricing or are they just less upfront about it? One place I used to go to had it, but not it’s not mentioned on their listing.

Aldi have changed their way of working food waste over the last two weeks. Had bags cancelled myself unfortunately while they getting things in place. They've now have dedicated a fridge section and bread basket to waste. 30% off tomorrow dates today and at 4pm onwards tomorrow, it goes up 75% off fridge and 50% off breads. What left of today's dates then go into Aldi bags. Hence we are seeing 75/50% stickers in our tgtg.

The 75/50 reduction are great buying at till, can pick what suits and avoiding the late collection. Also finding the tgtg bags are gone small, value less that 20e when used to get average between 30 to 40e.

Aldi staff themselves told me they've huge waste and then if tgtg not sold or even not collected more waste they thought be gone.

They've had the fridge section and break basket thing in my local Aldi for a few months now.

I hate the fridge section, 50% off what exactly?!

There are no prices on the shelves for those products 🤨

Same with bakery stuff, you've to go looking for prices

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭FootFree

75% off breads today at 5pm, was only 50% up to now.

Got 14e worth of food for 3.50e. My Aldi has the full prices in the fridge in front of the waste food, quick divide by 4. But it's such good value, I just buy it, plus I don't like to linger.

Fridge/basket only 2 weeks in my Aldi.

Last Aldi I'll order. Leaky rotten fruit n veg which I've never got before, packaging accidentally opened (from being thrown around the reduced fridge area I'm guessing), sweet stuff which rack up the 12e quickly, no meat/meal.

you’d be better off just going into the supermarket yourself and pick your own. Better value

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 815 ✭✭✭chrisd2019

This is why I have not tried the Aldi offer, better to choose from the shelf, in my local they remove from the shelf around 9pm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭FootFree

My Aldi only ever did 30% and so the tgtg were amazing. Always big boxes and variety, loads of meat. Other Aldi I tried were very poor in comparison. Maybe my Aldi was the exception rather than the norm. Paying 4e for 30e to 40e worth of food. I contacted tgtg and they said if 50% of food is usable that's the way tgtg works, I haven't complained on quality of food before so that's new on me. I'd calculated the new system would have a knock-on effect on tgtg if the fridge took off and unfortunately it has. Yesterday staff were collecting the 75% off at 6.30pm as collection of tgtg starts at 7.20pm.

We used Greggs in the UK last year on holidays, some huge bags, see recently they limited it 3 or 4 items.

right from the gate it’s been a moneymaking scheme and some shops it’s a way to get you in the door. Olio is a far fairer system but very hard work and often waste of fuel on those who collect . Yes in uk and other countries maybe it works because the shops understand it’s a way to reduce their waste rather than resenting people getting food free,

TooGoodToGo have now partnered with flower distributors/ retailers

Currently been rolled out in the continent… not sure when we will see such offers in Ireland.

Seems like a good idea :)

Having issues myself with gone off veg the last 2 boxes, fully rotten tomatoes etc. Got refunds but they did make it awkward with needing loads of pics and multiple emails

Have you got it in writing where they said if 50% of the food is usable they think it's ok?

I'd love to see that. That's basically giving users of the app food waste that they have to pay to dispose of which is crazy to me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,480 ✭✭✭✭road_high

in all fairness regardless of best before they should not be selling food that’s rotten and unusable. That’s completely unacceptable not to mention the food safety risks - I’ve never used this app but it goes against the premise of what it’s supposed to be

"However, the concept emphasizes utilizing these items in every possible way to minimize waste. I also acknowledge that, on occasion, the quality of the fresh items may not meet expectations due to errors or limited availability.

In order to help us assist you further could you please provide a few additional details?

~Did you manage to rescue and revitalize more than half of the food?

    Kind regards,"

I answered back, no, less than 50% was salvageable, again asked for list of what I got n which items went straight in the bin. I said I would do a chargeback. Eventually got a full refund just there.

I popped in yesterday to my Aldi as passing at 6.30pm to research and fridge 25% full of 30% left. Funny enough loads of sweaty those cheap tomato bags. Odd ball mix of things, 20 cookie dough rolls etc. The tgtg boxes tonight will be cancelled or suffer. I do believe the fault is with Aldi though which is such a shame.

The same thing happened with Lidl 3e veg box, I complained once in lidl about a 18 mths ago as 8 boxes made up with extremely little in them, manager got so mad, she put 3 into another one x 2, still box not half full, myself and next customer bought them both. Haven't bothered since then.

I have to say its amazing how six months ago I basically got bullied out of this thread for giving out about TGTG and the fanboys all had a love in for a while and posted a few bags, then it dried up.

Its now down too, Circle K seem to have a monopoly on it, then Applegreen and Spar/Mace, by and large meaning deli stuff you can try and heat in an oven and then do some chips for a cheap dinner thats only OK.

Twice now ive been in Aldi, the new setup is so much better, crates beside at the top of the fruit and veg, I got 50% off chopped turkey breast and then stewing beef, both well in time for a dinner if I wanted.

A shame as when you can get something like a James Whelan bag but then thats too few and far between and TGTG seem non too worried and even defend places abusing their system.

Oh and dont get me started on dynamic pricing, I had it with a coffee owner once, pretending he just signed up and dint know about it, if you play the waiting game and the place is close you go from E8 down too E4.

The new fridge idea in Aldi probably isn't helping keep the food in good quality or freshness by the time it's moved to TGTG either.

The door is constantly left open now while people are queuing up to look at the reductions throughout the evening and everything is being mauled while they are sifting through the products. When everything was left in their normal spot you didn't need to disturb anything or even open the fridge doors as you could see the stickers through the glass.

The two times I got it they where just sitting in the veg crates but then I think it's older Aldi as none of the fridges have doors

Got TGTG for first time in a while on Friday from Davidsons Craft Butchers in Cork - 6 euro for 3 chicken ballotines (fairly hefty ones), 2 peppercorn steak bombs and one gourment sausage (yes, one! I imagine they were making up the 18 worth of stuff). Anyway, I was happy, had the sausage yesterday morning for breakfast - it was delicious, might just go back and buy a few more…

That was 8 and obviously went down as got nearer collection so someone got it

    So less upfront aka sneaky

Just read Aldi UK are disappearing off the tgtg app, they've brought in the reduced sections there too. My local Aldi 3 bags available now, unwanted it seems.
