Needless to say, Ukraine aren't particularly impressed that Trump has hung a photo of him and Putin on the walls of the White House... Nor should anyone be.... Disgusting.

It's not a surprise (to me). If Trump had his way, the US would be pretty much supporting Russia in their war (US sanctions would be gone…that is happening gradually anyway, and Russia may even be allowed buy some weapons if price was right), but such a policy is not quite possible.

There's Trump, there's a few pro Russia cabinet members (incl. the VP) and there is the GOP, much of which has become very sympathetic towards Russia, but against that there is the US military and their civil service, which need more time for the leadership to be filled with people who will happily enact this new pro Russia foreign policy. It's amazing how far things have come in a year though, such that I hardly raised an eyebrow when I saw this story.

And yet some are still not convinced he's a Russian asset....

Shortly after his inauguration, the US president invited himself to be the chair of the supposedly bipartisan Kennedy Centre in Washington, DC. He dispatched the director, and most of the board. And late last year the name Donald J Trump was slapped on to the front of the building above “The John F Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts”. Ticket sales have tanked, patrons have protested, artists have departed, cancelled or played to half-empty rooms.

And then on Tuesday, Glass – armed with name recognition his fellow protesters may have lacked – escalated things. “Symphony No. 15 is a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, and the values of the Kennedy Center today are in direct conflict with the message of the Symphony,” Glass wrote in a letter to the centre, which was shared with CNN. “Therefore, I feel an obligation to withdraw this Symphony premiere from the Kennedy Center under its current leadership.”

Meanwhile, a couple in Pennsylvania attacked a woman after querying her ethnicity. They declared it a MAGA town... Once again, lots of pretty reasonable not to travel to the US for the foreseeable.

Sorry, I was thinking of Ivana his first missus. Melania was more discreet when she was a ,ahem, model.

The man with the thinnest skin and most fragile ego just won't let losing the 2020 election go. Wasting FBI resources on a witch hunt:

If you are (a) an immigrant, (b) a Muslim and ( c) a woman, then you are going to experience a really horrible level of abuse from DJT, who is (a) a zenophibic Racist, (b) a religious bigot and ( c) a mysogynist .

Thanks to Ilhan Omar for making that clear.

Not just Ukraine, but I'd say the entire former 'eastern bloc'. Putin is hated in most of the former Warsaw Pact countries (bar with the usual far right, racist and Russia loving types like Viktor Orban and the fella in Slovakia).

Saw the Pink Jacket Lady who recorded the Pretti murder by ICE agents, Stella Carlson interview on CNN. They ran initially as that is what cowards do. Then a minute later they came back with a scissors and cut open his shirt to count the bullets holes! She described their attitude as like hunters counting the hits on a stag. This lady has not being questioned by Federal authorities yet - 3 days after the murder. What I can say is the way she described her and her friends behaviour, the people of Minneapolis deserve our upmost respect for the struggle they have put up with. History will be very kind and hopefully gracious to them if the US can get through the next 3 years.

I watched Howard Luduik , one of Trumps department heads, on a Davos panel with an audience and if you were not too critical you would think that American Is Great Again concept has been fully restored and in record time. He listed off all the things achieved, EG ILLICT DRUGS UNDER CONTROL, NATO members agree to increase military spend to 5%, Greenland now adequately protected from Russia/China,.n his performance was VERY impressive, very forcefully made and vital a convincing persona. He was the kind of guy you would want on your side to help you with your policy/ issue strategy or whatever

He said that you might not like the way that Trump goes about getting things done but he gets results for the betterment of the US and the world in general

He advised the outer country reps on the panel to do the same as the US ie bring back all manufacturing to your country and all will be well

BUT HE ‘HAD NOT TIME’ to mention the following points:-

    (1) Trumps behaviour/ approach and his achievements has ended up COMPLETELY ERODING the level of thrust with the US’s traditional allies of which there are many. Thrust is sooooooo critical on all levels,eg economic, cultural, social, trade , security, that it has to impact very negatively For the US going forward

    (2) Traditioal allies have already started to PIVOT away from the US with regards to trade. Not good for the US with regards to foreign exchange earnings and US jobs

(3)/ The UNCERTAINTY created- and it’s ongoing- has a very negative impact on on future investment, international trade , etc and this is not good for international order

    (4) Up to recently America was a very attractive place to go as a tourist , for work, or for training /get experience. This attraction has been SEVERELY DENTED. Just look at the Canadian attitude re this aspect

    (5) when manufacturing is ‘ brought back’ to the US the product produced will cost more and if we adapt the Canadian position of ‘buy local’ where is the US going to find the market for their more expensive product. The US is in big trouble if !p, for example, the Chinese continue turning out the ‘ brought home ‘to the US product and it being also cheaper. The world marked is much bigger than the US market

So, apart from the above 4 ‘irritants’ everything is going ‘SWIMMINGLY’

If you look closely at that photo of Putin and Trump, you can see another monster in the background pulling the strings.

Howard Lutnick? Or, as referred to by wags everywhere as Nutlick? He's yet another made-for-TV personality that CFTrump employs to run the commerce department - the one's that enforce the tariffs. Did he talk about tariffs by any chance, and the NYT(I think) piece saying they're 99% paid for my US consumers, plus the amount collected has been around $200bn, a lot of money but chump change (Trump change?) in the grand scheme of things?

Did he have any opinions on the various deals Trump's caused to be made by the EU, Canada and others that exclued the US? I'd imagine the head of the commerce department might notice these things.

He's done 2 things in his life you can call respectable: 1 was to have nothing to do but he did call out his adjoining neighbour in his swanky NYC townhouse, Jeffrey Epstein, as repellent, and he did right by all his employees at Canter Fitzgerald who were annihilated when an airplane flew into their suite of offices in the WTC on 9/11. But, I think that kind of wrecked his sanity and made him an acolyte of CFTrump. Must be fun for him to deal with the Saudis.

It better be in writing on presidential notepaper with his broad-tip pen signature below the "order", nothing from a Email.

Trump will wake from his drug induced stupor soon, I wonder what he'll have to say about this.

There seems to be a concerted media campaign centered around the heir to the Shah as a potential figurehead in an invasion scenario. The heir to the Shah has courted Israel and has so far stayed silent on events in Gaza.

There's a chance that the bullets in or under him, in the snow, were what they were after. No bullets found on scene for comparison purposes with test-fired rounds from their service weapons in any investigation.

Sure doesn't he have a "special relationship" and the King is coming to see him.

    Nothing to see here

I don't think its particularly a big deal for China, they have a lot of 'prior art' doing this with the EU. Good for a headline I guess.

With neighbours and friends like Trump?
    Who needs enemies.

The Trump administration has held covert meetings with fringe separatists from Canada’s oil-rich province of Alberta as a rift deepens between Washington and Ottawa.

Leaders of the Alberta Prosperity Project, a group of far-right separatists who want the western province to become independent, met US state department officials in Washington three times since April last year, according to people familiar with the talks.

They are seeking another meeting next month with state and Treasury officials to ask for a $500bn credit facility to help bankroll the province if an independence referendum — yet to be called — is passed.

“The US is extremely enthusiastic about a free and independent Alberta,” Jeff Rath, APP legal counsel, who attended the meetings, told the FT.

He claimed he had a “much stronger relationship” with the Trump administration than Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

A state department spokesperson said: “The department regularly meets with civil society types. As is typical in routine meetings such as these, no commitments were made.”

Adding this to the USA's and particularly their ambassador to Canada's temper tantrum over Canada potentially reducing its F35 buy is a damning indictment of just how poorly the US views it's friends and allies.

The US ambassador to Canada, Pete Hoekstra, warned that if Canada reduces its order for 88 Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter jets, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) agreement could be altered.

Hoekstra indicated that a reduced Canadian purchase might necessitate increased US intervention in Canadian airspace and a re-evaluation of security cooperation.

If you aren't paying the American piper and understanding that however much you send them?
That it'll always be their tune?
    You haven't been paying attention.

A Secretary of State taking orders from a White House Deputy Chief of Staff raises interesting questions. Noem outranks Miller in the chain of command so why is she doing his bidding and, more importantly, is it legal?

Hopefully they'll do serious structural damage to the regime with their in-fighting as they try to pin culpability for the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti's murder on each other.

So ICE thugs beat Pretti 11 days before he was killed.

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/video/2026/jan/29/federal-officers-clash-alex-pretti-days-before-his-killing-video

Was it just coincidence that they went in extremely hard on him the second time? I'm starting to wonder if it was targeted, especially considering the Palintir connection and the fact that ICE have been seen with Meta RayBans on. I feel like that's getting into tinfoil hat territory, but at the same time America is falling into a tech dystopia very quickly.

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-presidential-ballroom-lawsuit-b2907325.html

"Judge Leon sharply rebuked a lawyer for the administration, stating, "Come on, be serious," after comparisons were drawn to minor renovations, such as the installation of a swimming pool during the Gerald Ford administration in the 1970s.

The judge indicated he would issue a ruling in the coming weeks on the National Trust's request for a preliminary injunction, which aims to halt construction work".

Wonder if the Tech lads are reconsidering their "donations" and Trump will seek to go forward with Federal funds.

Perhaps all he really wanted to do was open a MacDonalds franchise, a friend of mine who is a QS arranged a transferable Macs building for the London Olympics, was deconstructed a couple of months after the ending of the Games.
