Hopefully he does end up in prison, preferably in some location like El Salvador.

I read that as alligators. And thought "yeah, would serve him right".

The discharge of the 10/odd shots is another classical example of proof that. These THUGS have been SO BADLY TRAINED.
As a matter of fact the whole method / approached used to ‘deal’ with someone who was ‘apparently’ causing these THUGS a problem is another indicator of how badly they were trained- assuming that they fit some training.
    OR OR OR OR OR

Maybe the training they got was on EXACTLY the way they were trained to behave EG . Do something /anything to cause a reaction, then respond to that reaction and continue escalating and then we will leave it up to you As to what you do from there but you will HAVE OUR BACKING all the way - and that is right from the top.
But make sure that you protect yourself and your colleagues at ALLTIMES

I just feel like the problem with the US psyche in general is that everyone wants to be on the side of righteousness- not "morally right" but "right+winning". The MAGA's feel emboldened by Trumps first election win, then January 6th, then the second win, pardons and now ICE. The MAGA following are some of the most marginalized people in the country for the most part so can you blame them for wanting their say, really? Even if the message is abhorrent, they are uneducated, poor and in a lot of cases addicted and starving. Their life expectancy is lower and they can't find work. The Democrat side have far more privilege and instead of fighting to make the playing field level for everyone with free education, health care and other social security they're using their (low tax) paycheques to pay for doordashers and retweeting clips of SNL mocking the only people the MAGAs perceive to be standing up for them.

The GOP's only job is to make this marginalized population vote for them- that's easy, they just have to use simple language (with a regional accent for bonus points) and blame the foreigner for all of their problems. If everyone was entitled to the same education this would be a lot more difficult to achieve but would the average Democrat voter agree to pay more taxes for free third level education for all? Up until now inequality has worked for many many average Americans.

Would the body be examined by the states anthology department , especially re number of bullet holes, entry. And exit of same, ? Or wil this be done at federal level?

I understand that in Ireland , the body would be left at the scene, ideally untouched, and it would be photographed from all angles and the surrounding environment where relevant. I wonder what is the situation in the US. There must be a standard proceedure for such a basic occurrence

Ireland would also put up a protective shield around such a happening to stop the public from collection and gazing at the body and also to help in preserving evidence and avoid contamination.

Well said , . But what is of interest here is that there is little or NO ROOM for conspirators theories,; speculation, ;no , that is no what happened, this is what happened; etc, etc, etc.

    WHY?
Because the videos taken are SOOOO CLEAR as to what happened that there is no wriggle room for speculation , etc, etc,.

The saying “ A picture paints a thousand words’ is very, very applicable in trying to describe what exactly happened in Minnapolis

Blaming the Democratic Party or American Left in general for a lack of free education and socialised healthcare is quite the nonsensical leap. Almost impressive contortion of the truth there, bravo.

I cannot see Trump getting rid of any of his dept secretaries , officers or any staff member AS LONG as THEY SPOUT HIS POLICIES , STRATEGIES, etc, etc,etc and he deems them to be totally faithful to the CAUSE .

Most of those he sacked in the first term gave him a bit of PUSH BACK and he had some DOUBT about how faithful they were as to what he wanted to do

I'd imagine to target Hispanics and afro Americans in dems strongholds.

How should if ever will Americans deal with this but sadly most voted or didn't bother, for it

I'm not blaming them but there was always going to be a result to the massive inequality in the US and this is it. Lots of really nice, level headed and progressive thinking people have much more privilege than the MAGAs, it's just a fact.

I see Fox is now spinning the "accidental discharge" story. I wonder did they get it from the Telegraph? 😁

Royal Celt, I did not realise that Trump gave you the franchise to use the word ‘ Biden’. I thought the word was only used by his own supporters? I was 100% sure that Biden is gone COMPLETELY off the political landscape. He is captured. As a matter of fact there has not been even one letter eg ‘C’ or ‘T’, not to say a syllable since he left office

SO WHY ARE YOU BRINGING UP HIS NAME re supporting him instead of Trump. ? Why did you not also mention Bush, Clinton , O’Bama or even Reagan?

MM, I am still not clear that if you were in Minneapolis and you were going walking ‘down town ‘ for whatever reason and you knew that ICE were ‘in town’ would you carry your gun with you knowing that you would be within the law OR would you leave it at home.

Whenever anyone especially, a democrat campaigned on social issues like free education or health care they are immediately branded a socialist.

I know the MAGA you have described definitely exist but is that cohort of voters enough to get Trump elected or keep him in power. I will admit I'm not sure but I think Trump's appeal is wider than that.

I personally cannot comprehend how anyone with an ounce of intelligence or humanity can support this current administration, but if Americans continue to support this in large numbers, greater than his hard-line base, America is lost and I despair for the decent Americans that do exist.

I know there are plenty of authoritarian and despicable regimes worldwide but America's economic and military power mean that they are an extremely dangerous country to turn authoritarian.

Nothing short of a full rebuttal of this administration in the coming election is needed. I'm not hopeful.

People keep saying that ICE agents are badly trained. On what basis are people saying that?

It seems that they are perfectly trained for what their job actually is.

The reality is that this incident is only causing the problems it is for 2 reasons. 1st it was videotaped from multiple angles. That reduces the ability for lies and cover-ups.

2nd, the reason that this truck is more than the Good shooting is that it brought about a possibility of infringement on the 2nd amendment. The NRA, etc., are not worried that this guy was shot; the mistake the admin made was to push the line that having a gun in the 1st place was reason enough for the ICE agents to act as they did. It placed the likes of Fox News in a difficult position. They 100% wanted to back the admin, but that meant pushing the agenda that guns are inherently bad

If he had not had the gun, then this would have been swept under the carpet.

"Back on topic, the only way out I can think of for the Federal government now is to get away from the obviously misrepresenting narrative of “Pretti was an agitator/terrorist/whatever” thing which nobody is buying and have an honest assessment of the situation."

You say that as if it's just a bad PR move and not agents of the Federal government murdering someone and purposefully lying about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,900 ✭✭✭Lillyfae

It's enough to get him in power because not enough people are voting the other way. The voter turnout wasn't much more than 60%.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

That is what we are seeing now.

I'm old enough to remember when we, as naive citizens, were told by an informed, educated and honorable member of the military, that we were being silly when we feared that the army might carry out illegal orders from a fascist president.

"Tut tut" you would say. We should have faith in those in uniform that this would *never* happen, because those moral members of the military would have the ability to analyze and determine what is illegal and what is not.

Well, lookie here. A fascist president *did* send in his men in uniform, who carry out illegal orders and ultimately two innocent members of the public are dead. You know, the ones you are supposed to protect?

And what comment do we get, to address these tragic events? Perhaps some circumspection, an expression of some disappointment in the system, or heaven forbid, even some consumption of a crumb of humble pie?

    Nope.

Not a shred of sympathy for the victims, disgust at the behavior of ICE... just a commentary on what could possibly be done after the horse has truly bolted.

Rebranding for ICE? Rebranding? Yes. Perhaps you might check with Hugo Boss, and see if some of their factories can help get it started.

You can try, but you cannot insulate yourself from the actions of these thugs by hiding behind uniforms. They, like you, obey the fascist orders from a fascist president, and that makes you part of a fascist army.

I would not like to be a co-worker with Bovino at his new work assignment for the near future.

As if you continue to say that you're not yet defend him to the hilt, it severely damages your credibility as a honest poster.

That rebranding suggestion is very on brand for someone who's moved to Texas.
It aligns almost perfectly with Greg Abbot's suggestion to "recalibrate" ICE.

As if correcting the actions of a SchutzStaffel, that has put a Gestapo Cosplayer in Bovino, front and centre of their actions in Minnesota, is as simple as just dialling down the aggression.

Oversight, accountability and criminal liability are all required at an absolute minimum.
Not set dressing and certainly not shifting the chairs.
The fact that after another shooting, ICE sought to restrict City & State Law Enforcement from the scene?
Speaks volumes as to the extent of the free hand that the Federal agencies believe they have at this point.
It is a snowballing of Miller's claim that agents have absolute immunity.
They have been emboldened and aren't even trying to regulate themselves anymore.
    They believe they are untouchable.
Rebranding them won't change that arrogance.

The murderer of Renee Good has been on the job for like 7 years. Plenty of time there. Now, exactly what they're being trained to do is the problem.

I'd expect the CBP clown from Tx that killed Pretti is likely not a newbie, too.

A more extreme, but perhaps less politically connected, gun rights group called Gun Owners of America have been banging the drum about the 2A and Pretti's killing pretty hard. It is a complete infringement on, as one southern Congressman said, on their god-given right to bear arms. Not that I'd expect a Congressman to understand how rights work, but the killing of Pretti really has upset the 2A types.

Going to take a long, long time before the word 'united' in United States feels real again to ordinary Americans. However, ICE have united them more than the current POTUS ever will.

That phrasing "mother of all deals" is very cleverly pointed towards the orange fascist

The training for ICE agents was 6 months but was cut down to 6 weeks.

The whole episode shows how important it is to have people recording their every move with as much footage as possible. Makes the murder or other offences irrefutable once the time comes to prosecute these thugs from Noem down to individual agents.
