Am interested in getting a new shape used Prius in the next couple of months. I have noticed that they have a 1.8L engine (122hp) and a 2.0L (223hp). The 1.8L are much more common second hand and I was wondering has anyone any experience of these?

Are they gutless? All show and no go? Or fine to drive in the real world? The 0 to 100 time difference on them is fairly big on paper, but I'd love to hear real world experience.

I'm wondering why there is a lot more 1.8's on the market, is it because their owners are dissatisfied with them?

As far as I know, only the 2L plug in hybrid is available brand new here in Ireland. I think all of the 1.8L are Japanese imports. Almost all Prius's in Ireland are Japanese imports. Nobody buys them new here
