I'll probably still enter the ballot, but 75 is very expensive alright

80 euros for a half marathon, wow.

If you read between the lines of the press release, they have added the cost of managing the ballot into the entry fee. So they have found a better way to charge the fiver to keep the CEO salary fund ticking over.

If it's too expensive for ye don't enter

It looked like a cheap enough set up on O' Connell st this year alright (sarcasm btw)

Closing down the city centre doesn't come cheap

And I'm sure the payments providers won't charge anything to the organisers for taking and then refunding thousands of payments - how dare they factor this into the race entry fee..... 🙄

So many straw men where to start...

They have added €5 alone to the entry fee again to pad the salary of the CEO, a position not required for an org running 5 races a year, he must have photos of Jim with Epstein.

They close the roads out of hours on a Sunday morning, clear within a couple of hours, race finishes in a sink estate/office complex. You are running on a footpath for a decent section of the race.

The organisers charge a fee as per other events for transfers. Similar to the marathon its considerable given its an automated system, once it works as expected there it no need for a charge other than to feather your nest.

If they didn't cut corners and have people run on paths for miles they could probably have closer to 20000 taking part.

Refunding unsuccessful entries is reasonable to be fair, it really stuck in my craw about being charged to enter a ballot and be unsuccessful.

Its definitely on the expensive side, but there's lots of well priced halfs around the country for those of us who aren't fools and our money!

Disagree with a lot of that Rovers but your point re: the footpath/cycle path is very valid and am in complete agreement.

Its a disgrace that the coast road (James Larkin rd I believe its called) is not utilised. Using that tiny cycle lane is a cop out.

Could easily do 25,000 if you did more waves (possibly staggered to reduce congestion) plus used the coast road.

New date doesn't suit me at all, same as Limerick Half/full and WTF. Decision, decision…

Cant bring myself to enter. Really wanted to do it but the guts of €80 plus the travelling up, its honestly not worth it.

Cost of races is getting out of control

It's expensive alright, but it was a great event last year. The atmosphere and support was unreal

I entered again, fingers crossed I get lucky!

God speed. Let's hope there are still spaces in Limerick half if we don't get a ticket.

    Leave it off folks.

It's paying the salary for a pompous nepo baby who has somehow landed a plush job for a voluntary race committee.

Absolutely not paying that fee , no way, disgusting price for a half marathon.

Will find a local /club event for half the price and supporting a community effort.

Tell us how you really feel.

Entered this morning, hoping I get it as last year's was an excellent event.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,037 ✭✭✭BP_RS3813

It is the exact same route?

Have they managed to close the coast rd or is it still using the cycle path?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 91 ✭✭Lujan

Couldn't see anything about the route.

It was pretty poor in some places last year

Reminder that the ballot closes today

I didn’t realise this was on the same day as Limerick, and Belfast also. It's a pity as I'm sure there are plenty of people who would’ve liked to do both.

And being more expensive than the full marathon in Limerick is a bit steep to be fair.

There are lots of really great half marathons for half the cost of this. Get two for the price of one. In recent years I've done Wexford, Wicklow, Grand Canal, Westport and one in Killarney I think - all were great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,050 ✭✭✭ergo

If successful can you transfer entry to a friend/ family (like the full marathon) ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,422 ✭✭✭✭event

To be fair, they arent the only ones going crazy with prices. Carlingford half marathon is €55 this year. In 2023 it was €36. They give money to charity but will never say home much. Its close to me, location wise, but not doing it this year.

Jesus man, you need to get over this.

This is the way of the world now. This is the way big city marathons and half marathons are going or have gone. Dublin isn't unique. Moaning about it constantly, for years at this stage, is getting pretty tiring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 644 ✭✭✭FinnC

To be honest you feeling the need to reply to everyone who has a moan at it is also getting a bit tiring 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,860 ✭✭✭rovers_runner

This is where the extra costs and ballot entry fees for their races go.

They could have put their energy in making it an actual road race instead of 9 miles on the road and 4 on a cycle path but sure lookit, its the way of the world...

    I will stop it so

Absolutely. But then, as has been suggested before, if you feel so strongly about it (and you clearly do), do something about it. Volunteer and put your thoughts and suggestions across. Jim and the lads arent reading boards for feedback.
