If they wanted to include Northern Ireland, they could have called it 'Team UK' instead of 'Team GB'.

    Other sources say 90%, 10%.

    This map says 86%, 14%.

The Republic of Ireland isn’t at the Olympics.

    Ireland is.

The British team at the Olympics is Great Britain, not Great Britain and Northern Ireland (as they appear in some sports)

Competitors from Northern Ireland can compete for either, with the majority representing Ireland (as most sports organisations here are organised on an all island basis)

TeamGB, as they style themselves, represents the whole of the UK i.e. Great Britain plus Northern Ireland. The irish olympic organising represents the 26 counties known as Eire, Ireland, the republic of ireland or whatever your're having yourself. But, again, I asking what they error is with the map shown in an earlier post. The map does not include any of these labels. it only shows geographic areas. the geographic area shown is correct.

    it is not.

    Great Britain represents Great Britain.

    Ireland represents Ireland.

There is no mention of Northern Ireland anywhere in Olympic codes. You can see all official names on the Olympics website if you like

The Olympic Federation of Ireland operates on all island basis.

Team GB is merely branding. The team is called Great Britain, in the same way as Team China is officially the People’s Republic of China etc

It is not the “United Kingdom” or “Great Britain and Northern Ireland” and that is intentional, despite some Wikipedia zealots suggesting other wise.

As before; athletes from NI can compete for either as they are citizens of both

That tank map is a stark reminder of the 'buffer zone' mentality that still exists in Eastern Europe

To counter that with something more 'invisible', I've always been fascinated by the Submarine Fiber Optic Cable map. It’s incredible to see how Ireland and the UK act as the literal gateway for the entire European internet. We think of connectivity as being 'in the cloud', but looking at the physical lines on the ocean floor makes you realize how vulnerable and strategically placed these islands are

Wolves are present in the wild in every EU country except Ireland, Cyprus and Malta. They are making a big comeback in Europe without any reintroduction programs, but helped by conservation efforts. The populations in Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg probably came in from Germany in the last decade or so. The first wolf in the Netherlands for over a century was recorded in 2015. Population in 2025 estimated at 150 - 180, 13 established packs. Wolves made a comeback to Germany about 35 years ago, coming in from Poland.

Auk's fill the same role. The flightless Great Auk would have have been the closest. Even had the same colour scheme. But sadly extinct now, so there's a gap to fill.

Horses and other northern hemisphere animals adapted their breeding cycles to the seasons being the wrong away around down south, after a while.

I’m really surprised Ireland is lower than the Netherlands on this one. In NL I know plenty of people who are one car families. In Ireland I know very few, but that’s obviously bias on my behalf.

Ireland would have more people under 17 who cannot drive so unless "people" means "those old enough to drive" that might skew a bit.

Also "number of cars" might be the number taxed. A metric by which I suspect the Dutch would be closer to reality than in Ireland.

The number of driving licences in IE is 3.4m in 2023, out of ~4m adults 😯 I assume they count all fifteen classifications, therefore one person will duplicate

Plus don't some countries have reg regimes where the plate moves with the driver but not the car?

So you could have loads of drivers who passed their test and were assigned a reg number but may not currently possess a car. Seemingly a common thing in Switzerland where most gain their license and reg via national service without ever owning a car.

Significant Winter Storm to Bring Heavy Snow and Ice Impacts; Dangerously Cold Temperatures Expands Across the East

A significant, long-duration winter storm will bring widespread heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain from the Southern Rockies to New England through Monday. Widespread travel disruptions, prolonged power outages, and vast tree damage is likely. Frigid temperatures, gusty winds, and dangerous wind chills will expand from the north-central US to the Southern Plains, MS Valley, and Midwest.

Soviets were 'the threat' during the Cold War, but this French Communist Party 1951 map, suggests otherwise

expose American military imperialism and double standards from America. During the Cold War era, most of the maps circulating globally were anti-communist propaganda, this map was a form of counter-mapping because it was anti-American imperialism propaganda. At the time, American imperialism seemed necessary to stop the spread of communism, but there were numerous dissenters opposing American authority during the era, which should be recognized historically.
