For sure…Tesla subsidise cheap finance (worth thousands over life of loan) or now through Trade in boost where finance is not being availed of, different incentives appealing to different segments of market. It would be a stretch to expect to benefit from both.

The irony is for the simplest and most favourable deal, someone buying the car in a straight cash deal (no finance or no trade in) there is zero incentive offered …..

Why does the trade-n car need to have an NCT? Is it a Tesla condition?

I was watching Kim Java on YT there and it looks like FSD will no longer be transferable after Feb 14th. Musk wants those subs.

He might want those subs, but he could be in a bit of a pickle with FSD buyers who don't have HW4. It is astonishing to me there hasn't been any class action on this already

I guess most of these owners believe Musk will see them right. He said he would. There is no reason to not believe this, but personally I would l like to see a timeline

Going subscription model as more beneficial to Tesla revenue (and Musk pay packet) going forward

I don’t follow the FSD stuff as you know but I read yesterday that Tesla has filled a patent for something that will allow FSD to work on the older cars.

First article from a google search. So there could be more info out there for anyone that’s interested.

Same video mentions a patent that will have HW3 versions catching up with HW4. I'm not so sure about that. Watch this space I suppose.

If FSD is not transferable, I don't see myself buying it. And it was only yesterday I put that concern forward. Too unpredictable.

Yes I saw that "news", but I'm very skeptical as the conclusion "that it will make HW3 cars do FSD with this" came very much from the usual Tesla fanboi channels.

Like I said, I'd like to see a timeline on this, or at least an intention. And I don't think a watered down version of FSD that will never be unsupervised is gonna cut it for people who spent up to $15k on FSD in the past. That is not what was promised to those buyers. People have been extraordinarily patient, but that won't last forever

Went to test drive Model 3 with the family today. I've been in one myself plenty of times as driver and front seat passenger, but not as a family. Car was spacious enough, wife and daughter both drove it too and thought all was fine. Not as nice looking as a Model S of course and common as muck and not in any way a luxurious car, but the much smaller size has benefits too. The "free" dark grey colour was lovely. Bit sick of black cars now 😂

Tesla confirmed all my questions. Yes FSD can be transferred onto a new car for free until the end of Q1. Yes I can wait until I get a trade in value on my Model S, and there will be €3500 added onto that when buying a new standard Model 3. And yes I could buy a banger, with at least a month left of NCT, put it in my name and as long as the car has been in my name for a month come delivery of the new car, they will give me the trade in value of the car plus €3500 discount off a new Model 3 (full list price €36,484), so the max I would pay is €32,984 on the road

I'm not afraid at all that my Model S that is now nearly 9 years old and completely out of all warranties, is going to have some sort of catastrophic / expensive problem. But the new 4 year bumper to bumper and 8 year battery and drivetrain warranty takes all the uncertainty out of it

Lot of car for the money, particularly given that it might soon fully drive itself - at zero cost to me.

do NOT do it. Having come from an S (and X) to a 3, it's a massive step down. Like going from a 7 series or X7 to a basic spec 316i

The 3.5k is tempting I'll give you that, but in order to do that you have to front the cash yourself, no finance. I'm not willing to dump that much cash into a car so would always finance any car purchase above 10-15k even when I have the cash.

I know it is a massive step down, but the Highland Model 3 is a far superior and mature car than the first gen you had. Build quality is superb too. It is quieter on the inside than my Model S. The car has come a long way, my best mate got one in early 2019 and it was a rattlebox on wheels with poor paint and terrible panel gaps 😂 that was the very first gen sold in Europe though, the cars that went to Ireland were already improved in terms of sound proofing

The big leap forward (despite my reservations at the time) was the move to MIC. Mine (a '22 RWD) had already massive leaps over the earlier cars. It most certainly wasn't the first gen, which were awful in comparison.

Interesting to hear your opinions on it all the same. I went to see it in Belfast when it launched and found it leaps and bounds over my existing 3. What did they offer you for trade in? They probably gave a good offer because your car has FSD?

    Interesting position to be in!

Will you fit in a model 3 😂😂

Highland is a massive step up from the MiC refresh.

If he can fit in that low rider BMW yoke, then he should have no problem in a Model 3..😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,885 ✭✭✭eagerv

Absolutely, was very impressed with the Highland which I drove when first released. Mainly the refined suspension. Wonder how the new Standard model compares? Probably similar enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,766 ✭✭✭✭unkel

I only started the trade in process on my Tesla account online last night. I just had to fill in the reg, VIN, mileage, etc. but nothing about any options the car has, but of course they already should know that from the VIN? I think an initial trade in offer will come within 48h and I guess after that you would have to upload pictures to get a final trade in offer?

Yes it is. Huge difference. The suspension is far better, the car drives better, the interior quality is improved, it is quieter and of course it looks better and with improved aero and general efficiency it has a huge real life range per kWh, higher than any EV ever made, including the ultra efficient Hyundai Ioniq 28 classic

Not that efficiency is very important when you pay 5.98c / kWh incl VAT, so less than €4 for 450-500km 😂

And a total cost on the road of under €33k with full self driving (forever) is very, very tempting. You can barely get an ancient tech Toyota Corolla or Skoda Octavia with a combustion engine for that sort of money

The fact you can transfer the FSD makes it interesting. As good as the MS is, the modern 3 should be far superior when it comes to FSD (or whatever version we get here).

I assume there is no bargaining with the ordering process being online?

Same as any of these cars, BYD, XPeng, Tesla, the price is the price. No bargaining.

Not on the price, but sometimes they do deals at events. I got a free home charger when I ordered a MYJ at NEVO last year. After collection, I was given a voucher code and ordered my charger. I also walked away with about 8 ceramic mugs and some other random branded junk 😁

I’m lost… last time I logged on you were buying a curious (but wonderful i8) now it’s an m3. One is a Boss suit with funky blue trimmings, the other Penny’s finest.

I will say though as a dirt cheap mode of transport that now out Skodas Skoda, the M3 is the way. It’s not your way though?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,766 ✭✭✭✭unkel

They are not mutually exclusive purchases 😉

You know well that I am very interested in autonomous driving. And now I have the opportunity to get an already very well priced car, even cheaper with the current €3500 trade in bonus and as cherry on top: free, no subscription FSD forever. Which could very possibly be actually working some time soon. As early as next month if the RDW gives the green light…

Anyone still entertaining thoughts of buying, leasing, renting or otherwise driving a Tesla in Ireland is a traitor to their country, continent, democracy and our way of life.

Its identical to buying a Beetle directly from the Third Reich.

Besides, you could never be certain that you wouldn't come looking for it one day and it wouldn't be a smouldering hulk of sparking battery cells because it was torched.

Now at least I somewhat understand. But it's like changing mid grade champagne (your S) for the best prosecco the world has to offer. Not the same at all.

I'm a Delauney or Moet drinker, not "tesco's finest prosecco" lol.

That’s a good analogy in fairness.
But I can confirm, I’ve drank some prosecco that’s better tasting than many champagne 🥂

It is more mid grade champagne (Model S) vs Harp lager (Model 3) 😂
