Roberta Metsola is president of the EU Parliament, and Von Der Leyen is President of the EU Commission.

I hold both in contempt, particularly for their actions with regard to Gaza - parachuting in there to support the genocide with no mandate.

Kallas is also no fan of Irish neutrality. Doesn't exactly stoke my concern about her and her neighbour to the east.

I don't mean to defend trump or excuse him but is it possible he's completely lost the plot and his advisors are riling him up on the Nobel stuff and encouraging the media posts to drive instability

Why would anyone take that Peace group document seriously? It is full of grammatical flaws that leave it wide open to various interpretations, and is very obviously a vehicle for Trump to do as he wishes including riding roughshod over anyone who raises any doubts. And what is it supposed to achieve? What is the point in voting on things that they have no power or relevance to implement solutions?

Its just another ego-boost for Trump, a UN alternative where people will not dare laugh at him - likely its just a long-memory response to them laughing at him.

Agree totally, easy to fix though which is good.

It's certain. He's infamous for spending vast amounts of time on X and watching slop like Fox News.

You never wanted a "leader of Europe", if my memory of your posting is correct, you probably still don't want a "leader of Europe"!

I'm not even sure I would want one in the way you seem to mean it here, though I do support the EU and I do wish to see deeper integration to help deal with stuff like what is happening now (i.e. being "tag teamed"/effectively singled out as weak juicy meat by USA, China and Russia).

Listen to what Russia is saying in their media.

You know this goes straight to Trump's ears and ego from the sycophants that surround him.

The best thing would be for all nations to laugh at the prospect and decline. I'm glad Macron got in there so quickly in doing so.

I'm not aware of any countries signing up as of yet, never mind paying 1 billion dollars (Dr. Evil voice) for permanent membership.

On top of his previous failings - which were considerable - Tony Blair has disgraced himself to an unimaginable degree in rowing in behind this, and will presumably be consigned to the dustbin of history after the failure of this naked attempt at rewiring world order and superceding the UN. He will be persona non-grata across the EU, in addition to the UK.

I think I'm going to be sick.

Maybe Mr Rutte has been promised a seat (and a cut!) on this "Peace Group" thing? I can think of no other reason for him debasing himself so utterly.

Is the NATO leadership something that changes regularly, similar to the EU leadership? If so, when is this clown's tenure up?

And talking of NATO, I understand that the US is a large part of it, financially, militarily, etc, etc, etc - but even if the US leaves, or does something stupid, there's still other countries in it. All the doom-mongers say is "this will be the end of NATO", but I've not heard a cogent explanation of why the rest of the group can't just carry on without the US.

Interesting points, and worth researching, but beyond me currently I'm afraid.

This situation is obviously completely unprecedented, but it's clear that Trump has no interest in NATO beyond how he can use it to bully other countries.

There must be some mechanism for removing a country from the grouping. Surreal that it needs to be discussed and considered.

Europe just needs to grow a pair and call out the manchild and his entourage for what they are. He is an enemy of Europe and actively conspiring against its interests. Appeasement never works, better to take short term economic hit than risk watching that abomination grow more emboldened.

Rutte sounds like a lovesick teenager with a crush on a particularly creepy teacher. Not even Starmer would have bowed that low. I think he has a few more years to go. Ironically, I think the last Sec-Gen was a Dane. I wonder how that would have gone.

More to the point, he called on European leaders to show a bit of backbone and stop embarrassing themselves with the sycophancy, a point he repeated several times.

So many Americans don’t seem to cop it that Trump is their own biggest enemy. Him and those backing him will do way more damage to U.S. citizens than any other country or block of countries. Trump is an enemy of himself!!! His MAGA has people hypnotised

Fully agree. How on Earth at this stage are they still of the mindset that "Hey Don, we should discuss this over lunch. I'm buying!" will ever work with this f*cklump?

This isn't just tariffs at this stage. He's threatening military action on an allied nation in order to seize one of their territories. Call his bluff. Publicly and loudly state that without hesitation, if the US engages in any action (military or excessive tariffs) to try and force Denmark to give Greenland to the US, then the EU will retaliate with tariffs or other economic measures of their own, and in doing so point out on a big chart how prices have already risen for Americans so much since Trump took over and how US citizens are the ones paying the tariffs.

Trump is not going to play nice, and he has clearly shown he is not going to drop this while the EU and rest of NATO play nicey-nicey with him. Call him out and force him to have to battle within his own country (Congress/SCOTUS/popularity polls) to even try it.

I can't say he's not correct, but the tone is a bit off for me. This is the US leader, the US president. The US is ultimately responsible for this monster destroying not just the US, but post world order, and long standing alliances.

I think Europe is trying just wait out Trump. I know it sounds pathetic and sycophantic, but escalating with Trump currently in power via tit for tat retaliation will just result in more back from him, which we then have to escalate again and so on and so on. The last thing we want is a back and forth which ends in the breakup on NATO.

This current regime in the US will fall apart IMO within the next three years, most likely via Trump's death. Europe probably just think if they can hold out long enough and let the whole thing eat itself while limiting damage it will resolve itself naturally.

Apparently, according to Anthony Scaramucci, there's not one Republican senator in a senior leadership position that's for the military strike on Greeland.

Trump Copy and pasting personal texts from Marcon to him on world events, outrageous carry on, other leaders must be **** themselves theirs are next. Then at a press moment by Airforce 1, he says he doesn't care what Macron is doing as he won't be in office in a few months.

Trump is attacking Macron as he is standing up to the US.

On Truth Social He released a picture of all the EU leaders in the Oval office listening to Trump around his desk and in the background there is a map of North America with the stars and stripes all over Canada. It makes it look like they are talking about this as an option.

It is AI generated as there is footage of the same meeting with a map of Ukraine in the background, but you can see what he thinks of the EU leaders if he is Faking this to make them look bad.

This isn't that far fetched. Rex Tillerson said it years ago:

"Tillerson, who was ousted in March 2018, told the magazine, “I used to go into meetings with a list of four to five things I needed to talk to him about, and I quickly learned that if I got to three, it was a home run, and I realized getting two that were meaningful was probably the best objective.”

He added that he “started taking charts and pictures with (him) because I found that those seemed to hold his attention better.”

“I think the other challenge that I came to realize early on is there were so many people who had access to his ear who were telling him things, most of which were untrue, and then he began to listen to those voices and form a view that had no basis in fact,” the former secretary of state said.

“So then you spent an inordinate amount of time working through why that’s not true, working through why that’s not factual, working through why that’s not the basis on which you want to understand this, you need to set that aside, let’s talk about what’s real. I think that was as big a challenge as anything,” Tillerson said."

It might be sooner if Trump dies and/or the Democrats do well in the midterms.

I agree, though. If he can be delayed with bromides then it makes sense to keep doing so.

The opposition in America needs to grow a pair.

Trump right now is untouchable so they need to be focusing on bringing down those around him. Dig up every skeleton these people have in their closets and I'm sure there are many and get it out there.

It will be dismissed as fake news but the opposition need to start flooding the zone with as much dirt on these scumbags as they can get their hands on to have them spinning so much they can't just dismiss everything thrown at them.

This nonsense of when they go low we ho high is long dead and buried.

Acc. to this RTÉ article both Putin and Lukashenka have been asked to join it!

The only peace you can depend on Putin to bring is the peace of the grave (shattering any peace with noise of Russian guns and bombs first)!

The main stream media should also boycott the White House press briefings citing lack of integrity in the information being provided by Karoline Leavitt.

Start to discredit her and her mad ranting.

Their questions never get the genuine answers that the journalists want so what's the point of being there and validating the process.
