That was 10th time a Roscommon club were in a senior final. They have won 1.

Even Mayo clubs ha e better record 2w - 7L

The only reason they dominate Intermediate and Junior is because the 9th best club in Kerry is playing Intermediate, whereas virtually all other counties' Intermediate champions are the 17th best club in the county. Obviously, similar applies to the Junior grade.

It's genuinely mind-boggling how this is allowed continue year after year. It's just not an even playing field.

    Hmmm, for the record:

The last time Roscommon won a senior All-Ireland they beat Kerry in the final.

The last time Roscommon won an U21 All-Ireland they beat Kerry in the final.

The last time Roscommon won a minor All-Ireland they beat Kerry in the final.

The last time Roscommon won a junior All-Ireland they beat Kerry in the final.

Correct, it is certainly not an even playing field.

Kerry Intermediate winners - 9th best in the county - Cork's Intermediate winner - 25th best.

9th best in Cork would be the likes of Douglas, I'm sure they would have given An Ghaeltacht a good game.

But no rules are being broken. Each county can decide for themselves their own setup as far as I know, so unless every county copies the Kerry format, the Kerry Junior champions are nearly nailed on to win the All Ireland and the Intermediate champions will be very hard to beat.

As for Senior, their record isn't great - because they have no advantage at all - and it shows in the list of All Ireland Senior club winners.

not kerrys problem… if every county had senior.. intermediate.. junior.. junior a.. junior b.. junior c.. etc instead of senior.. senior b.. premier intermediate.. intermediate.. junior twould be alot simpler.. and the better teams would progress… Kerrys system is very simple… others should follow it… some counties have 24 teams competing at senior level.. reduce it to 16 even 12… personally i think 16 should be maximum number of teams at any grade.. surprised Croke Park dont try and streamline the club championship structures across the country.. would make sorting out club fixtures more straight forward…

Why did RTE only send a reporter to Dingle in advance of the final and not down to St Brigid's?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,801 ✭✭✭Big Pussy Bonpensiero

Not sure if it's been said but worth noting that Dingle lost Barry Dan O Sullivan back at the end of May. A player of that calibre would be a huge loss for almost any club in the country, let alone one drawing from a population of about 2000 people. Nothing short of an absolutely phenomenal achievement for a club of their size.

Fallon's performance today was one of the greatest in a losing all Ireland surely, he was outrageous I thought.

After 5 mins, Tom Sullivan was running the show and then they decided to move Fallon onto him, which quietened Sullivan for a bit. Fallon was class v Scotstown as well, funnily the keeper was probably their weakest link, and he was the recruit.

Peter Harte played the game of his life for Errigal Ciaran on last years final…

Some heartbreak for connacht clubs in the last week. Easkey and tooreen last week and Bridgids today. All 3 had victory within their grasp b4 it was snatched away.

Wanted Dingle to win. But the ref was a disaster for st Bridget's the last 5 mins in particular. Some stonewall frees ignored, maybe 3-4. Great game though. Cant say im to bothered about the bad decisions. But if it was my team id be furious. Best team lost imo. But thats sport. Shame the ref had such an impact

Tooreen and Easkey will have more regrets than Brigid's... don't want to keep harping on about it but Brigids had a phantom 45 awarded to them from which they eventually levelled the game and brought it to extra time...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,254 ✭✭✭blowitupref

Was more incidents that went against Brigids prior to that bit of luck with the 45. It certainly was a final that Brigids had the winning of and will have big regrets about their shooting accuracy something that was very good on route to the final.

Congrats to Dingle unbelievable year for them and the 3rd game in a row they managed to to pull the win out of the bag when it looked like they would be beaten.

Just looking at the bigger picture, there is still way too much handpassing and also players seem to have an obvious fear of taking on two pointers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 22,289 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

Might have been but unlikely ball was kicked from 40-50 out so even if it was an attacker would have plenty of time to be in there so I woukd not crib about it if my team lost.

The way I look at ref decisions throughout a game they usually even up or throughout a competition.

Great game, great quality to it. At the end of it Dingle probably had more big game players. Bringing on an ex county player like Mikey Geany as a sub is a huge advantage

That 45 wasn't scored, or was it?seem to recall it dropping short and play continuing, and Fallons shot equalising after a time??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,278 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

plenty of referees courses being run by every county board. Maybe you should give it a go yourself

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,265 ✭✭✭MacDanger

The 45 was scored alright I think - it was a later 2 point attempt from beyond the 45 that dropped short and ended with Fallon's leveller

    Very enjoyable game overall

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,810 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Consistent throughout game is what's important for refs.

Either let things go or ref it to book.

In saying that yesterday had nothing to do with a ref.

Brigids got a 45 that never was and scored. They can have no complaints to

    Referee Recruitment | Tobar

Just posting a link here for GAA recruitment - so many lads here are pure experts on how refereeing should be done, and are so dismayed and disheartened at the poor standard of refereeing (when their own team loses), that ye will be more than happy to do what ye can to right that wrong!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,173 ✭✭✭Tombo2001

    Possibly?

It either was a square ball, or it wasnt a square ball.

In this case, it 100% wasnt a square ball. Look at the footage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,029 ✭✭✭robbiezero

ok. Thought the lad in behind the goalie might have been in the square before it was kicked. If not, so be it. Doesn't matter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,074 ✭✭✭mjp

Brigids can feel hard done by that they didnt get that late free for foul on midfielder outside the 21 as that would have put them 2 up near end of ET. Dont know whther i agree with it or not but nature of gaa refs is that the threshold for winning a free when the game is nearing the end changes completely. Say that Brigids were a point down at that stage rather than a point up they were getting that free or if that same tackle happened to a Dingle player down other end he was giving him a free to level it.

Gaa got lucky there yesterday and avoided a huge backlash that the game didnt end level and go to penalties. This would have been the first major final to be settled on penos i think and would have been huge public outcry and rightly so. An extra week for club final replay should be pencilled in as it wouldnt inconvenience the gaa much more. Its not like these lads are going to be lining out for their county teams in league next weekend.

it gives Kerry teams such an unfair psychological advantage in Munster. They are utterly dominant at all levels. Schools, underage, club and county. It has helped kill competitive inter county football in Munster at all levels. Teams are beaten before they step on the pitch so many times.

Really the GAA should be looking at some solution to help football at all level in Munster. I say this as a long suffering Cork man, acutely aware how sh1t we are, and unable to get ourselves organised in any way!!!

Anyway congrats to Kerry have had a super season and play great football

Agree 100% about the match potentially going to penalties, it affects so few players that allowing an extra week for it would have minimal impact elsewhere
