Check. For once, the EU and others have acted fairly swiftly and decisively.

Soldiers from European countries are already arriving in Greenland. The first to land there were soldiers from France, who arrived just about seven hours after the heads of diplomacy of Denmark and Greenland held unsuccessful negotiations with the United States in Washington.
Soldiers from Denmark and France were the first to arrive in Nuuk at night, and soldiers from other NATO countries are expected to follow them on Thursday, reports the German newspaper Bild.

"When the soldiers arrived at the Arctic Command Center of the Danish Armed Forces near Nuuk, we found out that soldiers from France were also on board," wrote Bild, which notes that, according to Greenlandic media, a second Danish Hercules plane also landed at the Danish base in Kangerlussuaq at almost the same time that night.

"The first French military elements are already on the way. Others will follow," Macron said on Wednesday on X.

Both aircraft flew to Greenland with identification and tracking systems disabled, the German newspaper pointed out. According to him, other small groups of soldiers from NATO countries are expected to follow soon.

The German Defense Ministry said it would deploy a "reconnaissance team" of 13 people to Nuuk, Greenland, at the invitation of Denmark.

"The first 13 soldiers of the German reconnaissance team should also arrive on Thursday. In addition, it appears that soldiers from the Netherlands, Canada, Sweden, Great Britain and Norway are on their way to Greenland," the newspaper noted… According to him, the action had been planned in secret for a long time, so there was no immediate reaction to the outcome of the negotiations in Washington.

    I'm calling it NATO-lite.

Now let's see how good Trump is, at 4D chess. Great moves.

Agreed but why move them in in 2s and 3s? Im seeing mocking headlines of "Norway deploys 2 soldiers to Greenland" and the like all over the place today, should have just said feck it and launched a full operation.

At this stage they should tell the US to piss off, its got nothing to do with you. This is our sphere of influence and only have any negotiation between Russia, Ukraine and the EU. The US havent provided anything that Europe hasn't paid for in months.

From My understanding they're quite high ranking so probably aimed at liasing with other NATO colleagues and deciding where to place assets if they need to ship them in. As seen in Venezuela, the US can take weeks to put the chess pieces in place. Plenty of time for the EU to get their gear in place once the logistics are decided.

My guess is they are scouting for accommodation 8-)

Baby, it's cold outside. My suggestion, go occupy one of the many closed US bases. Bonus points for flipping the yanks the bird.

Many? The US only ever had five large-ish bases in Greenland, only three of which operated into the Cold War, that being Pittufik/Thule, Narsasuaq and Sondrestrom/Kangerlussuaq. The former is still an active US base, while the other two are now commercial airports. The radar stations that were part of the DEW Line extension into Greenland have long since been buried under snow and ice. There is, Ironically, a large-ish Danish naval facility at Grønnedal/Kangillinnguit that could be reactivated.

But yeah, I presume that those are advance parties to see what facilities are available, and what kind of work is needed to move larger contingents over if needed. Interestingly, it looks like all of the advance teams will be flying into Greenland together with Danish military personnel on a civilian airliner from Denmark, at least according to German milbloggers.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

If Trump knew Greenland was so tiny would he still want it. He keeps saying how huge it is. Turns out Russia is tiny too.😅

The Greenland issue has unmasked Trump as an annexationist. He also showed himself to be one in his first term when he recognised occupied territory in the Golan Heights as part of Israel. He is driving a coach and horses through Article of the UN Charter which forbids changing borders by force.

On the other hand the bigger picture on the battle field has been extremely slow Russian advances. There is a stark contrast between how Israel gets all the weapons it wants at the drop of a hat, while Ukraine has to plead for it for years.

Trump is a very poor diplomat. He praises adversaries and blames Ukraine and insults the EU in his National Security Strategy. This weakens his influence on Ukraine and the EU in my opinion. In business, clients complained about not being paid. There was also complaints by students of Trump University. So how can any other country trust him with this record?

He is refusing to criticise the many violations of the Gaza truce by Israel. Is it going to be like this after a peace deal in Ukraine if Russia violates it? Will he as usual blame Ukraine?

It looks like history is starting up again.

Sky News showed a map of Greenland with Britain superimposed - Greenland looked about 50 times the size of Britain 😲

Understandable, going by that map. However, most of those are radio beacons, weather stations, or remote radar heads, sites that operated autonomously or with minimal crewing. The two sites in the middle of the ice shield were DEW Line radar stations that did operate with larger garrisons, but those have since sunk into the ice. Beyond that, most of the sites actually date back to WW2, you can save that the locations on your map line up with the locations listed in this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluie (Bluie was the US military code name for Greenland in WW2)

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

A school bus bringing children to a military registration office in Russia was prevented from doing so by being in a motor accident with a woman driving a toyota yaris. The woman didn't survive the crash.

Thats Iceland in your picture, not Greenland. Using "the true size" site, actual size of Greenland v Ireland is:

Trump has just claimed Narendra Modi has promised India will not be buying oil from Russia. I wonder is that true.

"Poland faced the worst attack on its energy infrastructure, the purpose of which was to cut off the electricity supply to citizens at the end of December. We are facing sabotage by Russia. Digital tanks are already here. We were close to being cut off the electricity supply," Minister Gawkowski stressed.

Hybrid my arse. Every fibre cable from Europe to Belarus or Orcistan should have been cut years ago.

Yes I know it's Iceland, I just threw that in for comparison.

18-year-old Adam Kadyrov lost control of the car that was driving at high speed in the motorcade, opposition Chechen media reported.

Oh dear,I feel like I should be concerned…or something.

It's still pretty huge and Russia is the largest country in the world so far from tiny but yes those maps do exaggerate it.

Things are grim in Ukraine now even if the media are more interested in the Greenland soap opera:

The Mexicans should reclaim Texas and New Mexico. With winter now set in, it's targeting energy and oil infrastructure would seem to be the main battle frontlines.
