Resembles a magazine show more and more every day ,a skim of some of the daily news interspersed with soft scatty magazine type content ,hardly worth listening to these days at a time when a proper unbiased news show was never more needed

You are correct…….never heard such crapp……that’s Monaghan’s doing….obviously trying to

shift the listener age profile back to 35 ish.

Pure rubbish from start to finish.

I find Katie Hannon pretty poor compared to Sarah McInerney, and I really don’t like the earlier start and finish times for Drivetime. Have stopped listening recently as a result, sure so harm to stop consuming so much news media at present anyway.

same, I think Katie hannon is fine when she is interested in the topic but otherwise she just tunes out , you can hear it in her voice. and the co.presenter, I genuinely can't remember anything about him.

I have stopped listening too as you say not a bad thing but instead I'm catching pod casts from uk and us

I have the radio on if I'm cooking dinner in the evening so I usually still hear bits and pieces now. But it's too early for me before 4.30pm and also it's mostly such rubbish now that I often just tune out. When it was Cormac and Sarah it was essential listening for me and I would actually delay doing other things from 6pm to hear all of it up to 7pm.

I'm surprised at how how little current affairs discussion and how much fluff nonsense there is now given both hosts are from a serious news and current affairs background. It surely can't be their choice. I've actually heard more insightful discussion on Oliver Callan, which should not be the case - I'm a fan of Oliver's show so that's not to insult him or his format.

With Cormac and Sarah, the rubbish was usually restricted to 4.55 and 5.55 slots. This new program has taken it to a whole new level. And hard to imagine two current affairs journalists are really into the format.

Think of a county, lads, a Farney County, what’s its name ?, there’s the person responsible.

    And it will not work.

I tuned in around 4:45 today. Current affairs all the way, except at the end, a feature about Irish scientists in history. I was interested to be told that the hypodermic injection was invented by an Irish doctor. There was a minute or so of banter during the sports section after 5:30.

Wonder will the schoolkids' " young scientist exhibition " get a mention this evening ? :-)

Is it not long since time the thread title was changed?

    Done.

I did ask twice for suggested thread titles when the schedule was updated and no one replied. I'll try to get to the rest of them over the weekend.

Why does Hannon always appear and sound as a person who hasn’t researched anything?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,011 ✭✭✭Dublin Calling

She probably has no carefully prepared que cards wave around.

I must be in the minority here but I prefer it now.

McInerney and O Hara are no loss.

They certainly were a car crash that's for sure. Did they even present in the same studio together?

Setting a very low bar there, bwana.

Lookit, the Monahan ones idea is to 'dumb down' RTE R1.a la Newstalk, so the presenters have to either act like buffoons or look for another job.

Notice the centre stage is now dominated by these self styled 'socials' and so called'influencers whose credibility is kind of based on the number of tossers who follow them.

Its all contact whoring now that's what the opening discourse on almost all RTE1 programmes are about and how the presenter "would love to hear from you" ……heh he h they couldn't give jack schidd.

Katie went off the cuff when talking about what was coming up after 5 o'clock today. Colm had to come in and rescue her that it was a dispute between Elon Musk and Michael O'Leary. She couldn't think of Michael. Anyway, that's just a little gripe.

The bigger gripe is that the new format is $h1t€. Pure $h1t€! It used to be a current affairs and news programme. Now it's as much about celebrity gossip, food, trivial rubbish.

And it's over by 6PM(starts at 4PM). The old format was way better as was the time schedule, 4:30PM to 7PM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭amlinopta

Katie going off script doesn't always work out. As for the format, Patricia Monahan seems happy with the "overwhelmingly positive response." Inside Sport very poor also. A very dull, long interview with Padraig Joyce this evening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,272 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

The old format was marginally more news centred, with false banter and forced 'laughter' the standout.

The new iteration is even worse if that's possible, its gone from a good solid fast moving current affairs show under Mary Wilson to a hogwash of social media oriented faff with the presenters trying and failing to bring any kind of gravitas to the

    proceedings.

The culprits are not really the presenters, its those who try to put out the opinion that 'everything is going great'

The import from Newstalk will be found out I predict, when and if, proper figures and listener surveys ever surface.

    What does proper figures mean?

Genuine independent up to date figures, which reflect the actual listenership of the programme, hombre

Not unsupported soundbites from folk with a dog in the fight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79,512 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

In other words, unless the figures chime with my view they are dodgy.

RTE will be particulary interested in the 15 minute blocks from 4 to 4.30, and after 6 o'clock. They and the other stations who pay for JNLR get that detailed information in what is known as the Book. We will only see a single number, most likely the best performing 15 minutes. Unless someone knows of another source, the JNLR is the only one supplying figures. The stations keep paying for it, so they must think the methodology is reliable.

The Joint National Listenership Research (JNLR) figures are generally considered the "gold standard" and primary currency for measuring radio audiences in Ireland, with a high level of industry acceptance. However, their reliability is debated regarding whether they truly reflect modern, active listening habits, particularly for younger audiences.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 24,509 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

    "Conclusion on Reliability

The JNLR is not merely a legacy survey; it is a continuously updated research project designed to track the shifting landscape of audio, including the rise of streaming and podcasts, as evidenced by reports from 2021 and 2025. It is considered reliable for capturing both traditional and increasingly digital-focused listenership, though it faces competition from on-demand audio and on-the-go streaming."

Radio Forum people sometimes claim to know what they call the real figures. But they never have any source for that except in their own heads.

'debated' by people with nothing more than a feeling in their malcontent waters it seems. Know what I mean mucker?

    That's a big part of it's problem.

Being the only game in town it's wide open for anyone to disagree on even the flimsiest grounds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,996 ✭✭✭Hippodrome Song Owl

Katie and Colm's opinion on the new Harry Styles single and the Beckham saga. Really discussing the important stuff today. Yes, there was coverage of Ukraine, but this is woeful. Not current affairs presented by two current affairs presenters. Such nonsense.

This is not a current affairs show any more, have to say very disappointed in ‘Kuullum’ seems to have gone down the road of butting in with asides as to how up to date he thinks he is.

Hannon was never a serious competent presenter.

Ms Monahan is way off the mark here…
